Thanks, Kiwi_Roy! This is an OEM regulator. I have a replacement on hand to install with the new stator.
-
After riding the repaired stator about 300 miles/~500km, it continues to charge at 14.2-143 volts even down to 1500 rpm. However, the battery discharges to about 50% (just over 12.5 volts) sitting overnight unless I open the 30 amp circuit breaker (like removing the 30 amp regulator fuse). Thinking the stator must be shorted, or poorly repaired, I disconnected the yellow output wires, but the discharge persists unless I unplug the regulator's red output connection. I am thinking the regulator got damaged in the stator failure? Not sure how to test those nefarious diodes . . . (?)

Simple enough to install a full set of High Current OMRON: https://www.onlinecomponents.com/omron-electronics/g8he1c7trdc12-42670683.html When swapping relays, I always use #3(middle)/“Neutral” Relay for the spare as it is the least stressed. Know your stressed relays:
-
Will the bike start and run in neutral with the stand down? If so, your Run Switch is working fine on the Neutral Switch/relay circuit. There would be no benefit to using the Sidestand Switch instead.
-
I like referring to that as the "Run" Switch. Interesting that it gets its current through the Sidestand Switch when the sidestand is up (stowed) while rolling down the road in gear. When the stand is down, the Run/Kill Switch gets its current through the gearbox Neutral Switch and Relay#3 (middle). Any chance, mznyc, that circuit is blocking your Run Switch from working with the sidestand up, bike in neutral?

onlinecomponenets is a reliable source and, yes, the OMRON High Current relays are not expensive. The description in the ebay ad is mostly good. I question the NO/NC current ratings (not shown) and would rather see a view of the information on the top of the relay. Interesting to see the full size contact blades. The standard G8HE has the smaller blades throughout. Perhaps this is the "1" after the "R" in the model number?

I saw this pic of Kostarika's V11 in his Gallery and rode all over the countryside looking for a place to take pics of mine. What a great shot! Thanks for posting this, Kosta!

Best Relay: https://www.onlinecomponents.com/omron-electronics/g8he1c7trdc12-42670683.html

I believe that would be @andy york's 2002 LeMans. *Somewhere* beyond 124,000 miles/ 200.000 km . . .
-
+1 with Lucky Phil on that. Vapor lock doesn’t typically occur while fuel is flowing. Something looks to have gotten hot and recovered after a cool off, though. Failing relays can do that. Especially the #5 in the V11, and extra-especially if it is not a true High Current relay.

Best when someone is out of tune in the band, that the whole band tunes together . . .

Celebrated twenty years with the Sport today.

You get these things tuned right, they'll run on just about anything . . .

Opened Preferences in gd and selected your V11 model?

Those "similar" risers footgoose pictured are from ROXspeedFX. Not sure about later V11, but my early Sport was going to need extended hoses and cables to fit 2" risers . . . https://roxspeedfx.com/collections/adv-dual-sport-dirt-bike-handlebar-risers

Six weeks out and probably time to get the serious talk out of the way. Then we can return to our regularly scheduled BS . . . Concerns over considerate distancing and appropriate face covering persist. Beyond looking out for yourself and one another, let's be especially considerate of our innkeepers. They have to be in close proximity to folks from all over and often in the close space of their front desk. Let's just please be aware that a face covering and a bit of distance will be a kindness toward Walt and his good folks at The Lodge. No breakfast is being served because of the very close space downstairs. Let's all plan accordingly. Even our usual evening pizza-fest should be given some thought and care. Otherwise, there is that whole thing about this not being an *event*, but simply an idea. Most of you have heard all this before, but perhaps worth clicking the link, especially if this "idea" of a SpineRaid is a new thing for you . . .

How frikkin' cool is that! Thanks for the excellent service, Gmc28!

Here ya go, lads: https://www.donedeal.ie/motorbikes-for-sale/moto-guzzi-v11-sport-scura/25506726?campaign=3

Good questions. I wonder what "under-performing 20 amp max" unit they are referring to. My Workshop Manual graphs the factory unit showing 20 amps at 2,000 RPM and up from there. Looks to be the same stator connections with the dubious white Zip-tie for strain relief.
-
Nope, not "rope." At first, I thought the tie to be Nylon cord, but it is not. It is wire covered in braided heat shielding impregnated with what appears to be an epoxy. As are the heat shield sleeves over the wire leads themselves which are connected directly to the windings' output rather than the original method of both soldered separately into eyelets mounted to a fragile extension much like the strain relief mount which had a simple Zip-tie (seen broken in this view):
-
How are the weaves different? The 1x1 is "finer?"
-
Here is ElectroSport's solution to heat fragility and strain relief for these long known failure points on the V11 stator ($154.00US). I'll be swapping this new unit onto the Sport and re-engineering the old stator's connections as a spare . . .
-
And who says a spoogy throttle body on an old Moto Guzzi doesn't make for a lively and engaging conversation piece?
-
Watch out for docc's random images! Who knows, someone might have swapped that motor in . . .
