  1. Good news on the TPS solution and tune-up! No kit, but @Lucky Phil's excellent tutorial:
  2. Yes, indeed! In fact the threads are buggered on mine! I am rather surprised the exposed threads of the Wittner C44 are not damaged in the least. On that "utility" vise, the exposed screw allows for "the dynamic jaw square slider." Is that feature more robust or accurate than the more common C-channel guide used to cover the screw?
  3. Through one of the links @audiomick posted, I found the nomenclature for my dentist's small vise with the moveable jaw at the rear. Rather than a "leg vice" it is sold as a "dovetail hobby vise" with clamp mount (mine is 58 mm/ 2 1/4") . . . https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sealey-Cv50-Dovetail-Hobby-Vice-50Mm/1741421478?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101318182&adid=22222222222000000000&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=e&wl1=s&wl2=c&wl3=10352200394&wl4=pla-1103028060075&wl5=&wl6=&wl7=&wl10=Walmart&wl11=Online&wl12=1741421478_10001337540&wl14=dovetail vice&veh=sem&gclsrc=ds
  4. So, among other tools, the holes in vise face are mounts for Hardies, swages, and fullers . . . https://forgingworld.com/hardy-tools-for-blacksmithing-the-complete-guide/
  5. Ken (The Lodge at Tellico) tells me there are three open rooms at this time.
  6. Is this the ferry from Sistersville, WVa, to Fly, Ohio, @Bill Hagan?
  7. Absolutely. And the swivel has no anchor. I saw that clamp mount called a "leg vise." I also noticed the big Wittner C44 utility vise has a square recess at the back of the anvil surface. Some sort of mounting hole?

  9. Hmm, yes, indeed: a full length dovetail and the rear, movable jaw . . .
  10. All good. I'm up for a little V11 molestation. It's what SpineRaids are for!
  11. Oh, sure, all good, then. Only docc has molested it.
  12. I am, obviously, still struggling between my "vices" and my "vises" . . .
  13. He was "Old School" and could cast his own crowns. Because of my wife's jewelry making business, he donated his equipment. I rather instantly took possession of the little vice . . .
  14. Successful "BikeWash" (154 mile shakedown ride) today. Today was mySport's 24th anniversary, so extra-special. On the lift, now, for tires and brakes and such . . .

  16. These guys could have probably made something of themselves if they had stuck with it.
  17. The little vice in the foreground (2 1/4" jaw width) belonged to my local dentist. Interesting thing is the back jaw is the movable and the front is stationary. Is there a name for that configuration? And some advantage?
  18. Even the large "Maxi" fuse I tried failed because of the contact heat. Original post...
  19. Heh: what I see on that link looks like something about pigs having wings . . . I can't seem to make it display . . .
  20. Ya know, when I think "Ducati", I hearken back to the most delicious . . . Common folk, like me. would like to think matters of "MotoGP" contribute to this sort of "trickle down" . . . Does it, still?
  21. I admit that I monitor this thread, but have posted on it sparingly. Largely because I have about zero interest in this sort of sanctioned racing, across the board. Perhaps this comes from an early interest in, er, "unsanctioned" racing . . . It does seem that analogies to other kinds of motorsports, and motorsports history, are relevant to the topic. Carry on, carry on. My racers aren't the racers you are looking for . . .
  22. I had a little chuckle when the shipper contacted me and said, "These suckers weigh fifty pounds !" It occurred to me that maybe I should have tried harder bidding on the lot of racing number plates, instead. It has been fun learning more about vices. I get the impression a "utility" vise is the kind of thing I see bolted to the bumper of a one ton truck. The condition of this one would be consistent with that sort of duty; "Weathered and well used." I don't suppose I can dishonor Dr. John by cleaning it and lubricating the mechanism. Not sure a repaint is in order, yet probably less than 10% of the original paint is intact. While waiting the three weeks to get eyes on them, I dreamed up a plan to laser engrave the front mandible with some proper homage . . .
  23. I find it an absolute honor that you would give so much consideration to coming, @Admin Jaap! Perhaps for the Twenty-first . . . SSR XXI . . . Truly best regards, Jaap, from all of us. And thank you, again, for this delightful and important playground you have created for us!
