    Go_Winkie!

After cleaning, and DeOxit® treating the Run Switch (and Start Button), the Go_Winkie illuminates every time. A live-ride test is in order, but must wait. I'm pretty sure I haven't cleaned (CRC Electronics Cleaner) and treated (Caig DeOxit Gold) before because I don;t remember the hassle of getting the switch separated from the clip-on. The front brake lever mount has to be released to release the throttle assembly to get the front screw loose on the switch mount. Even then, I could not "get eyes on" the switch contacts, so just flooded the switch assembly with the cleaner, then the DeOxit, while cycling the switches repeatedly. Over just the next couple rides, I'll know if this solved the intermittent no-start and dark Go_Winkie. If so, the Go_Winkie will have saved me an immense trouble shooting debacle! I already owe Kiwi_Roy a canoe-full of MooseJuice . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uI4XAGO2BY
  2. ". . . ground through . . . " as in the electrical power sent to turn the starter motor through the large positive battery cable has to "ground" or "earth" back to the negative side of the battery. This current travels through the mounting bolts and mounting surfaces which have to be clean, tight, and treated to function. So, the mounting bolts are also a main electrical connection for the starter motor. And, yes, some "previous technician" failed to properly secure the starter mounting bolts.
  3. Yeah, these motors ground through the mounting bolts. Really important to keep them clean, tight, and "treated" (Vaseline® or, better: Caig DeOxit® on the threads). This is such a good reminder for all of us. I should put it in one of the Maintenance Checklists. I'm starting to think we could compile an Electrical Maintenance Checklist . . . Thanks, LowRyter, for the heads-up!

    Go_Winkie!

Lately, the Sport does not fire-up every time, at the push of a button (the Start Button). Cycling the Run Switch a few times gets things going. I noticed the Go_Winkie is not lit when the >No Start Good news: It is not the injectors, coils, ECU, fuel pump, Fuses 1 or 2, the "secondary/hidden" spade connections underneath Fuses 1 and 2, Relays 4 or 5, or any of that independent wiring harness for ignition/fueling. Many thanks to Kiwi_Roy for this simple and effective real time, onboard diagnostic tool! Embarking, now, on the fault. Beginning with opening, cleaning, and DeOxit for the Run Switch itself . . .
  7. I realize there are only a handful of us running GPS speedometers, but I hope someone can help me understand an odd phenomenon that has happened twice on my GPS Speedhut. A few months back I was on the interstate about five miles form home and I noticed the speedometer needle hunting. I knew I was rolling about 80mph, and needle was moving erratically from about 60 to about 90. Haven't seen it do that before, or since. Until today. It struck me that I was on that same stretch of road moving at about the same speed and the GPS speedo became erratic. I toggled to the digital speed display and saw it was fluctuating continually, sometimes displaying "0.0." This happens to be in a very gentle approach and departure to a river bridge. Not mountainous or shielded from the sky in any way. First occurrance, I thought it was something with the Speedhut, like a recalibration function or something. This time, I got thinking V11 electrical (read: docc's sketchy wiring). But it was in the same area and I appeared to have "ridden out of it." So, what gives? GPS hole? Is that even a thing?
  8. Just pulled in from about 35 miles riding, the last 15 at about 80 mph. Rear drive: 122ºF, rear brake disc: 88ºF.
  9. Checking the brake is good advice. The rear brake can be needy and the pads are pretty small. At one of the South,n Spine Raid TechSessions, we measured the temperature on several rear drives with an infrared reader. I can't find those results (or which SSR we did that), but I don't recall any being "burn hot." thmper has given you a good starting point, then on to checking bearings . . .
  10. Oi! Kiwi_Roy's --> Go_Winkie! Lately, mine's been giving me "indications" . . .
  11. Hmm, that could be "other things", then . . . The more commonly reported "vapor lock" has been a No Start condition after the bike has been shut off hot and attempt to restart as in a fuel fueling stop or other relatively brief interruption in operation.
  12. I'd say you have a fuel pump issue if you're getting vapor lock. Even in 40 deg C heat in traffic here in an Australian summer i've never had an issue with vapor lock. Ciao Please elaborate, LuckyPhil. we have always treated "vapor lock" as a fuel line routing, shielding, and proximity issue . . .
  13. Cool, thanks! We can leave this thread in "How to . . ." now that it shows us > how to
  14. Well, the "View New Content" button hasn't worked since the difficulties with our security update. Sure, it's broke, but it ain't a Guzzi, so we don't talk about it . . .
  15. What about using guzzidiag to evaluate the readings from the Engine Temperature Sensor and the Air Temperature Sensor ?
  16. Does anyone have a source for the G8HE 20a/35a OMRON at this point?
  17. Link that YouTube and we'll leave this thread in "How to . . ." Otherwise, *questions* are best posted to Technical Topics.
  18. bb, What would be a representative S/Pumkins YouTube to post?
  19. Third Sunday in August, then!
  20. Perhaps the inner bearing, #12, is the matter?
  21. Eight weeks from now, we'll be making our way home from the Fart-eenthSSR . . . Just a reminder to be looking at the roads, routes, and attractions of the area as there really is no full-size/everyone-at-once/organized ride with a preset route. It would be great for some route and ride ideas to post here, and consider forming some fine allegiances and riding Saturday in groups up to five or six. I like trying to form a diversified group: A navigator , a guy good with tools , someone with great sounding Mistral , a pannier-meeneeac to carry the beer at the end of the day , and some wirenut with extra relays . . .
  22. Today is the third Sunday in July. How is the action at Turismo Veloce?
  23. Come on y'all . . . "What are you listening to?" . . .
  24. I saw some little "restorers prybars" with the backside faced for striking (smoting?), and faced my set of Lady's Feet. The largest (16") came out with a nice cross-peen weighing in at 494g, seen here with my vintage Gedore 500g machinist's Hammer . . .
