  1. And the higher zinc/phoshate (ZDDP) of the SG.
  2. Seems it's the flat tappets in the Guzzi that differentiate it the most from a modern automotive engine. Oh, well, there is that air cooled thing . . .
  3. My tach face also drifted. Agreed that "a dot of glue" is in order once you get it back aligned. Nice set-up! Very clean!
  4. So, now, it occurred to me ( I mull over these things in my bonkers state-of-mind ) that I've adjusted the valves on this Sport twenty or twenty-five times. Every time, I try to get it *just so.* I love the process . . . the slip of the feeler gauge . . . the joy of the first ride after the *Tune-up* . . . that >feeling So, how could I feel good about setting the lash (I love saying "lash." It is so: In-the-Know ), 0.006"/0.008" +/- 0.003"? (My hi-miler "could" be more out of spec.) I would rather know the variance and compensate for it as indicated. "Bloody Bonkers?" By Bungendore, I rightly hope so!
  5. >NOT
  6. Modern day Dondolino, maybe . . . The last LeMans was built twelve or thirteen years ago . . . . the time is ripe (>>>>>>earth to Piaggio
  7. Haha! Truly! It makes me recall showing my Lionel toy train layout to a friend's young, very smart girls. They watched it go 'round a few times, blew the whistle a bit, then the older one (maybe eight) said, "Is that all it does?" I thought about that for about five years . . . I came to me, though; "Most importantly, it keeps an old man's mind off more worrisome things."
  8. . . . a "brain stem" . . . my doctor-person is trying to compute that . . .
  9. Here is a post by Gary Cheek considering to clamp or not clamp (I'm a nonner) . I learned to totally trust this guy. One of the cognoscenti that I so wish still posted here. [All the images I'm finding of the clamp have fallen to PhotoBlockiit.] http://www.v11lemans...c=9333&p=106156
  10. belfastguzzi (who I also miss), posted a fine image of securing your filter. http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9333&p=106159
  11. 1.125 !! 1 1/8 One and One Eighth
  12. Here is a post specifying the UFI torque at 10-12 Nm (with caveats): http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9154&p=103985
  13. You guys have me looking for the reference threads. Here is one of Ryland3210's investigation threads: "Oil filter loosening info" http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9670&hl=%20oil%20%20filter&page=1
  14. Is there a specific torque value that the filter should be set at? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think Ryland derived that as well. Man, I'll have to try and find those posts. It was an excellent investigation on his part. (It goes tighter than I would have naturally gone. Of course, I was raised in the automotive "finger tight" days. That is definitely not tight enough for the V11)
  15. Oh! That's brilliant! I have one of those clever valve adjusting tools! I can set my valves as usual, then use the "thread measure" to see any difference, That would be the rocker wear! Brilliant! [so, does anyone have a rocker adjuster handy to measure the thread pitch? Or know it, offhand?]
  16. Thank you, gentlemen!
  17. Y'all come, now, ya hear?
  18. "maintenance switch" . . . great concept. That is exactly how I am using it.
  19. Haha! Let's face it, the V11 KoolAid is not your run-of-the-mill, ordinary Guzzi KoolAid . . .
  20. I am thinking both of your tutorials should be in the "How to . . ." section.
  21. In order to comply with the instructions from my regulator supplier, I have been disconnecting the regulator from the battery while using an external charger by opening the circuit breaker manually. A trusted friend told me circuit breakers should not be used that way. Am I ruining it?
  22. Coming up on that magical 200,000 km mark! We'll celebrate! Break out the Special Tool Fluid!
  23. Wow, Niels! Such well done tutorials!
  24. ryland3210 posted some excellent investigation on the amount of tightening necessary to adequately deform the filter gasket/seal on a variety of filters. His conclusion was one and one eighth (1 1/8) turns from gasket contact. Oil filter seals should always have a smear of oil on them. (FWIW: 3,5 liter = 3.7 US quart)
  25. Little, cozy blankets for the reservoirs! Looks like she is in good, caring hands!
