  1. Thanks for sharing these videos. Quite the inspiration! welldone!
  2. Wow, sw/dave, thanks for sharing the great vid! Next best thing to an airplane . . .
  3. MV Agusta, as I recall.
  4. So . . . never mind the BritBike thing. My main focus at the museum was to soak up as many delicious post-war Italian singles as possible. And there are many! The level of artwork in these classic designs is just fabulous. This is one of the very best:
  5. Is your kid looking at the wristwatch, there, doing the , "Are done yet, dad?"
  6. Thanks much! I just had a thought, these caps are pretty thick wall... if you wanted to ditch the threaded rings altogether, you could use the set-screw idea others have used. These ABS caps can easily be drilled and tapped for 3 little Allen set-screws. It would require a bit of relief at the edge near the 'idiot lamp' cluster.... it's pretty tight in there, and the threaded ring is smaller OD, and acts as a spacer for the cap(s). Actually I think white PVC S40 caps are a little thinner wall, and the same 3.5" ID, so a smaller OD.... might allow for better clearance in the center. PVC being white, your paint may scratch if not careful... the ABS is black and scratches won't really show. BLIGHT FWIW, I found the wall thickness of the Speedhut cases quite thin. One of set screws made a hole. I'm not sure how much clearance there is inside the Speedhut cases before a penetrating fastener might make contact with the electronics.
  7. Not exactly a V11, but might make a nice accompaniment . . . https://www.ebay.com/itm/182942269658?ul_noapp=true
  8. Haha . . . well my son, V7café, might have dropped the gauntlet when he said his mid-70s Honda CB200T "cranked right up and idled" yesterday; allowing that "15 kicks is cranking right up." Since new, this Honda GB had issues starting after sitting. So I re-jetted it. Ten times. Modded the exhaust . . . (I know y'all are shocked.) Unlike my Italian heart-throb, the GB500 reminds me of a passage from Kenneth Grahame's "The Wind and the Willows" (1908) in the chapter Dulce Domum ("Sweet Home"): "But ere he closed his eyes he let them wander 'round his old room, Mellow in the glow of the firelight that played or rested on familiar and friendly things which had long been unconsciously part of him, and now, smilingly, received him back, without rancour."
  9. Thanks, man! She is a delight. "Maybe" 30 hp, under 400 pounds. As Gordon Jennings once wrote, "Equal to a gentlemanly pace."
  10. I had to poke around for a proper place to post this, but wanted to share with you guys. Having been laid up all week with the epizootics, I felt good enough today to service up the Honda GB500 (a rare 60ºF mid-winter's day with clean roads). She hasn't run in four months. Now, do not despair: she sits in a controlled environment with her own heater, gets her battery discharged/charged on a regular basis, and is dusted with a lambswool duster like some exhibit in a fine arts museum. So, yeah: Shop Jewelry. Then the conundrum: suit-up - then kick. Or kick - then suit up . . . Decided to suit-up. > Petcock/choke/ignition/run switch on. Flip out the kick lever. > Run the kicker through once, and again a bit more briskly to *prime* the combustion charge. > Slip the piston just past compression . . . > One kick = START! Yeah, baby, life is good! I know it's not mid-winter everywhere, but I think we all know what a joy it is to get out and ride when "it's been a while."
  11. I knew it would come to this. I knew, I knew . . . >sigh
  12. me too, sans grumble.... Hahaa! The subtle Reveal!! Niiiiiiice!!!
  13. Haha - just thought that a funny one. Couldn't resist the tease. Someone oughtta report to the moderator . . .
  14. Gotta love a guy that goes straight from think to act with nothing between. -> So, concerns for cutting below a surface hardness at some point?
  15. I know we Yanks and Brits are separated by a common language, but your valve covers fall off periodically, Stew !?! Seems when all hands were on deck to build this field-expedient valve cover gasket for Goofman's 2-valve 1200 Sport, the word was the gaskets differ between the 1064 motor and the "1200." Not sure what that means to simply fitting 2v-1200 covers to a V11 (1064)? Special gaskets or no?

That's funny. I'm converting that to a bassman joke . . . As to #9 music humor, what was that Beatles' song that has Lennon repeating "#9 . . . #9 . . ." in some echoing, trance-like manner? That was haunting at the time. The kind of thing that could drive you to go out and get a V11 Tenni years later, not at all realizing why . . .
  17. I had a Honda rocker flake it's "hardness coating" (whatever that would be), which introduced an annoying tick'tick after warm up. These V11 rockers simply appear worn, not damaged or flaked. My thinking is, if i had LuckyPhil's rockers, adjusting my valves 0.006"/0.008" nets an actual lash of 0.009"/0.011. (Almost "Race Spec"). But, his rockers had only 26,0000 miles/ 42.000 km and I'm pushing four times that. Does that translate to four times the wear? Perhaps not with so many other factors at play. The antipodal Coriolis Effect notwithstanding. I see that new V11 rockers are $165US each (if available). Makes the Baisley upgrade competitive if not alluring on its own.
  18. They (Art of the Motorcycle, The Pyramid/Memphis, 2005) presented that "Krugerrand" racer as a 1962 Matchless G50, but it looks like a twin to me. It was an interesting story, but probably not a G50 (single cylinder). No wonder I couldn't find where the Krugerrand fit in the G50 cut-away at Barber!
  19. I admit I didn't care for the Griso when it came out. "Pooh-pooh," said I, "Too bad." Then I saw Bill Hagan's red one in the flesh. (There is a fun and silly provocation to say "Bill Hagan" and "in the flesh" in the same sentence . . . ) These Griso are lusty beasts. And the 1400 in a "Sport" chassis? Really? I thought they were heavy cruiser mills . . .

    "9am & midnight" . . . drummer think !
  21. Griso heads! How freakin' cool is that!?!
  22. I was just recently reminded what a beastly-cool Sport LuckyPhil is running . . .
  23. That is intense! That is the first bike I have seen in forever that I would eat up to take the place of my beloved Sport . . . Is that your personal ride, Pete?

I think Scud, or *maybe* footgoose, should give us a side-by-side video tutorial on this rattle business . . . I'll pin it somewhere and we'll have a time with it!
  25. I'd like to know how much wear to expect on my 105,000 mile rockers and take in all the options. There is always much to learn. So let's take it as far as it wants to go. Just remember, some rabbit holes come out on the other side of the looking glass . . .
