  1. A front tire change is a perfect time to clean and equalized all the piston movement. Shops aren't going to do that for the cost of a tire change. The pistons do get retracted to reinstall the calipers and, if the pistons are not moving evenly, could cause the pads to engage the rotor unevenly creating a reduced contact area and sudden wear variation. Probably a good time to clean those pistons, maybe consider a pad change if they are rather old (original?).
  2. With only a couple days out: A-> B-> C-> D 1) A fantastic "high pressure dome" brings us fabulous riding weather! 2) But *chilly* in the mornings and up on the Appalachian Divide. Prepare accordingly. Mind the Windchill! 3) Check your routes and navigation. Maps / GPS / -> especially for Saturday. 4) Do make sure "The lines between the lines line up with the lines . . ."
  3. Let's get this ugly-thing in perspective . . .
  4. Have you looked at Traxxion Dynamics? http://www.traxxion.com/Fork-Spring-Kit-40-x-310-x-65kg/mm/
  5. I've been preaching this ever since luhbo showed me that my arcane charging protocols and ancient chargers were flawed. Huh . . . yeah . . . those relays . . .
  6. Hey, man - I warned ya . . .Spine Raids-Raiding-Raiders are seriously serious seriousness.
  7. Here are a couple really important topics that ought to be in their own threads: Stumble_t : new springs/ proper sags http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11765&p=224660 shiloh : rear drive gearoil/ filling/ leaks
  8. That is so magnificent, so avant-garde! I love the skeletonized structure and the varied sizes of the exposed fastener heads juxtaposed with the quilted, organic seat. Like Beowulf swimming with a naked sword . . . Meraviglioso!
  9. By *serious*, I mean this little bike was forced to start up, burn oil and pop wheelies before it was all over . . . No Guzzis were harmed in this training exercise . . .
  10. Thanks, y'all! In the true spirit of Spine Raids and Spine Raiding, the Lo-Down Mid-TN Spine Raiders conducted a *serious* session of preparation, training, and fabrication. In someone's garage instead of a random parking lot where we usually do these things . . .
  11. So, hey, post back why it's not on?
  12. No trip over the Alps is complete without passing at least one Porsche! So, great, man! Thanks so much for sharing!
  13. So, that was some exciting times living from tornado box to tornado box. Thank goodness for amazing tracking tools. The good news is that this huge low pressure system is likely to draw an equally huge high pressure dome out of the west. Read: cooler, dry air for next weekend . . .
  14. Key on: battery light on, oil pressure light on. All the warning lights should come on except the low fuel light. Most likely causes: bad bulb or loose bulb socket, but it seems there is a regulator issue that defeats the light. Put a voltmeter to the battery and confirm charging voltage exceeds the static battery voltage.
  15. I've been re-reading Greg Field's "Moto Guzzi Big Twins." Just yesterday, read this account of the V7 sport: "Sport forks were built by Moto Guzzi, and are possibly the first cartridge-type forks fitted to any production motorcycle."
  16. When I put my Sport back together recently, getting all the connectors re-seated well and restoring full electrical conductivity to the entire harness took some re-doing. Look at all of the lights, instrument illumination, dash*warning* lights*. Absolutely all of this works?
  17. With a quality voltmeter, check the battery voltage (I know it's new, but check). Check that there is battery voltage to both Fuse#1 and Fuse#2 (outboard terminal). As Chuck says, swap the center relay into the 5th (last position. Always use a High Current relay in Position #5.
  18. HRC_V4 fitted one last year. Maybe he'll chime in with a report . . . http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19382&p=212098
  19. AKA the world's biggest scooter! Apparently, this is an qualified opinion . . .
  20. A few years back, motowfo and I tested the mercury sticks next to a TwinMax and found the TwinMax just fine for throttle balance on his Coppa Italia. No tuna were harmed in this endeavor. But Imperial Stout was a factor . . .
  21. Yeah, baby! Balanced many a V11 with those! and the merkurie nebever aflictected me. Nobe, nada blit.
  22. Heh: yeah, they look "related" . . . Closest I can get to a "place name" in my vehicle history? Honda Pacific Coast.
  23. After wrapping up the refit on the Sport, all the hammers could finally *go home* . . .
  24. Figures that someone would come up with an artillery-grade hammer . . .
