  1. Can the little copper hammer be used as a dead blow hammer to seat the rear main bearing flange? Or do I need to get yet another hammer?
  2. I looked at MGCycle and the same half-caged bearing with the small rollers is pictured. I wonder which way to face it? I'm inclined to put the closed cage back away from the gearoil.
  3. So, check it out: the wiring harness schematics are separated into two sections. The one pictured is for the "Electrical System", P.10 of the 1999-2001 Parts Guide. This is, basically, for the lighting, switching, horns, charging, and back of the fuse block (Fuses 3-8). This part of the electrical system utilizes the front three relays (Start, Lights, and Neutral). (This is the Go_Winkie side of the electrical system.) Page 38 shows the "Injection Electrical System" with the back two relays (ECU and FI) and power to the front two fuses. (This is the part of the electrical system that operates outside the "Go_Winkie). There are the five relays, then. The questions remain whether the 1100Sort-i and Centauro also have five relays. And whether the pictured V11 was fitted with previous generation harness or was modified by a previous owner that didn't trust the 5-realy set-up.
  4. Yeah, actually they look pretty peckered up and pitted. Under 7x magnification, some of the rollers show light pitting and wear also. The replacement thrust bearing (right) is caged on one side. Not sure which direction it installs.
  5. But getting the rear main seal out is awful. Even with the flange out. I can't imagine trying to get the rear main seal out without taking the flange out. I hate pulling seals.
  6. Getting the flange out is not such a problem . . . "If we don't have the tools, we'll make them . . ."
  7. No, the throw out bearing and face washers have no wear, that's just the impressions from the gear oil.
  8. So, best if the leak is pressurized? I don't suppose those bolt holes are, but could make for a good "back-up" seal.

  10. Good method. The Workshop Manual does state to "apply teflon tape on the two lower fastening screws." There was a little brown gunk left on them when I took them out, but no longer sealing. Appeared to be olive oil based.
  11. I know the carbed Sport 1100 has three relays. Not sure about the later injected 1100Sport-i? I wonder what that pictured harness is for. Centauro have three relays?
  12. I emailed Grimeca for support; sent dimensions, specifications, images.
  13. Hm . . . three different relays held by a "Zip-tie" and some loose-looking wiring/ heat shrink . . . not a very factory" looking set-up at all.
  14. Wow! Never seen a RedFrame Sport with three relays! What is the 10th digit of the VIN & build date from the left headstock tag?

  16. +1 on the platform jack and the front of the bike stabilized. Theoretically, if the swimgarm is also supported, a single stiletto could be removed at a time. Be sure to measure the stand-off of the pivot pin before removal. Even with the airbox off/ tank off, I had a tough time getting a wrench on the large Nyloc-style nuts that fasten the side plate to the swimgarm (rounded one badly).
  17. You know you have a beautiful motorcycle if it still looks wonderful to you "took apart." Even the inside of the stilettos are magnificent pieces . . . Meraviglioso !

  19. Hm, Josh had me look closer at the packaging. Peeling back the MI sticker reveals the origin:
  20. This clutch went 99,000 miles. Not sure how much longer those friction plates would have gone. They were definitely coming apart. The gearbox (where the input shaft walked off): ~76,000 miles. I'm thinking since it was a warranty replacement part, perhaps it was not inspected and the failed safety washer was missed. The replacement "throw out bearing' (right) doesn't look hardly as robust as the original (left):

    I like that needle better than one I tried (which was built for stabbing through seals and I cut the point off). You have a source for that one, footgoose?
