  1. While the Veglia speedometer is typically replaced more often than the tach, I have seen Veglia of the same age show a more faded tach needle. No idea why that occurs, but it has been observed. The pictured Veglia speedometer is my third and is almost seven years old. The tach was replaced under warranty in 2001.
  2. Oh, my! Look at all those tiny-little-rubber-extensions-that-are-called-by-another-name! There is nothing like riding on fresh tires!
  3. I just got some paint and was thinking about opening those on purpose to paint the needles orange again. This thread might help you too: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16407&hl=%2Bveglia+%2Brepair Thanks Scud. Didn't run across that thread when I searched, but it convinced me that it's nothing more than a bonding operation. After I drain out some oil, of course.... My Sport seems to find ways to drain out its own oil . . .
  4. Kidding aside, since we're talking about brakes and axles, the caliper bracket mount bolts are 10mm and the Workshop Manual says to torque to 45-50 nM (~33-37 ft-lbs). The pinch bolts are 6mm and torque to 8-12 nM (6-9 ft-lb). Accurate torque presumes clean, lubricated threads and a smooth hand.
  5. I'm pretty sure you have to torque them in Newton-Meters. Otherwise, the threads talk about you at night while you're sleeping . . .
  6. I won't know how to act without the speedo needle dancing St. Vitus' Dance. Maybe my riding will smooth out, too!
  7. Thanks, chamberlin! On the slippery slope now . . .
  8. Shall I remove this entire drive since I'm going GPS? Is there only the one little washer that could get loose in the gearbox, or is there another? [EDIT! NO! There are two!]

  10. Reply with a nice big photo of your bike, please. A Britten-inspired V11! That's brilliant! (No pink fenders and belly pan?)
  11. The Sidestand Switch feeds current to the Run Switch while the bike is in gear. Without a connection there, you will not be going down the road. Carefully check all the fasteners that anchor the Rube Goldberg sidestand bracketry. One of the V11's Achilles' heels.
  12. Looks to be in really nice shape! If it makes you crazy being in another state, at least we know what's making you crazy. Some people are crazy and no one knows why . . .
  13. Adjusting the high-idle cam starts with the cable tension and is finished with the "High Idle Screw" shown in yellow in the photo below. I set the cam so it has a little clearance to the throttle and just nudges it when the high idle lever is engaged. Right side idle screw (in red) is hard to see in the photo below, but is backed out enough so that it does not protrude from the other side. I've seen them loose enough to fall out.
  14. You mean I could have a V11 Green Sport after all? Well now . . .
  15. While designing my new Speedhut custom gauges, I considered having them say, "Made in UTAH"

  17. A formula for overfilling the sump?
  18. Heh - yeah, that VFR; an *old guy's* bike if I ever saw one . . . Since this is an actual V11 thread, look for it to move to the 24/7 V11 subforum so we can keep better track of where BLIGHT goes with this. (+1 on Scud's observation that your V11 will have the attributes of an '02 including the earlier white face speedomet/tachometer)
  19. Thanks for clarifying, Scud!
  20. I can *edit* that post to say you passed the bad-ass brown truck on the inside of a decreasing radius downhill and he stopped to give you a trophy . . . Sweet Thruxton, BTW. Not to mention your getting the RedFrame back on the road so quickly.
  21. Found a [cheap!] copper hammer, and a friend who has offered to fit a black cherry handle. Those two things seem paired like Brie and baguettes. Beer and burgers. Wind and winding-it-out! http://www.hammersource.com/Copper-Hammers-Wood-Handle/1/2lb-Copper-hammer-3/4-face-11-wood-handle/
  22. All the food groups, right there!
  23. If you have a US spec fuel vapor evaporation system in place still, this is an example of after-engineering to meet US Federal nit-picking. It weighs five pounds and includes twenty feet of 1/2 inch SAE fuel line to accomplish this, as well as the nefarious "one-way valve." It is "open to atmosphere", but only on the far side of all this plumbing, TWO carbon canisters, and vacuum applied from the intake manifolds. I'm with Kiwi_Roy (always a safe bet! ) that something got pinched. *Might* be a good time for the Tank Off Maintenance Checklist with a good mind toward the venting/ overflow plumbing.
  24. How heinous does your riding have to be to get pulled over by a UPS truck?
  25. I find it quite an honor that those RedFrame riders of the striking V11 Green variety would make room for those with off-color tendencies . . .
