  2. That makes perfect sense. I *theorized* that all settings would have to be final before the TPS re-set. Yet, one of those "settings" is (classically) setting the final idle with the stop screw. No good? That Stelvio . . I think it's a 2009 quatro valvole. He's had a fit with it. Let me check in with him and see if he's ready to launch a *Desperation Thread* . . . Apparently, it has not had the "learning parameters set, and (simple me), I was hoping that might work some magic on it.
  3. I would not know that balancing the throttle bodies might be any different on W5AM except that the learning parameters might-should be reset after all is done? The guilty hairy-knuckled ape trying to tune this good chap's Guzzi with nary a clue? That'd be me. According to Goofman, it starts, runs, and accelerates better than before, but there is something just not right. And that's all on me at this point. Next up is another friend's fussy Stevio that just will not behave or respond to common troubleshooting (but, that's another matter!) For now, Pete, thanks a million for the insights and expertise.

  7. In my experience, a bike with over 100,000 miles has had a lot of tire changes and that tends to show on the rims. A bike with only 8,900 miles may have only had a single rear change and could feasibly have its original front. Look at the tire date codes (the four numbers at the end of the "DOT" stamping). How old are the tires?
  8. We're here in Goofman's (chilly) garage pondering his 1200 Sport. He has cleaned the Throttle Bodies, changed the (really dirty) air filter, cleaned and gapped the secondary spark plugs, adjusted the oil level, and replaced an intake tube (from airbox to throttle body). So, now to rebalance the throttle bodies and "reset" the TPS. Question is, can the throttle plate be "budged" to the idle opening using the throttle cable, itself, to replicate the kludge and set the TPS? edit: To clarify, I was thinking we would do the above (balance the Throttle bodies/ set the idle/ "reset" the TPS at operating temperature then shut off and record the TPS "degrees opening;" Start up and record the "degrees opening" at idle (if different/higher); Shut off, hold the the throttle so slightly open to indicate the "idle value/ degrees opening" and prompt the ECU to *learn* that TPS baseline value. More of a *nudge* or a *budge* than a "kludge," but, wouldn't it work just as well? And less . . .

  10. Or at least rotate the relays you currently have and make sure they are all making good contact. I had three seemingly unrelated problems solved, as if by magic, by putting in new relays (but one that I removed was loose). There will be a logical solution. Chances are it will seem obvious once we find it. Relays? magic? magic smoke? . . . trickery?!? . . . . . electrickery?
  11. Haha, right? They accepted that I'm trying to "replicate" my existing gauges and offered to delete their logo, but cannot put "Veglia" on them. I decided not to ask for : Vaguelia PORBETTI ooooh, but I am tempted . . .
  12. Being guilty of always looking for the simple solutions, I'm carrying two High Current OMRON relays to solve all of brlawson's woes. Come'n get 'em. buddy! (My Sport's laid up with odometeritis and speedometer St. Vitus Dance )
  13. (Third) Veglia odometer locked at 29,400. Ordered a Speedhut gauge set just now. Really nervous about the whole thing . . . Thanks, so much, to everyone who has posted their experiences and all of the details to consider. As of this writing, $420US for the pair (GPS speedo and custom faces). [edit/ 20 May 2017: final cost after ticking every box and adding every option: $559.90US. I spent another $50-60 on various fasteners and trim pieces and electrical supplies.]

My first attempt at a synopsis of wiring/ electrical changes on my 2000 V11 Sport: > Lowered the battery basket to relieve pressure from the seat. > Replaced the electric petcock with a manual petcock; later using the connector for a troubleshooting Go_Winkie. > Installed junction blocks for both the positive and negative connections in order to remove the terminal stack from the battery terminals and make room for: > Fused accessory circuit for heated jacket or charging. > Fused power for Garmin ZUMO GPS mount. > Dedicated positive circuits for the horns and headlights (horns fused, headlights on circuit breaker) to four separate relays (one OMRON each in the headlight bucket for the hi/lo beams and one Bosch alongside the right of the spine frame for each FIAMM horn ). > Grounded the headlights and horns back the the frame brackets for the fuel pump using *star* washers. > Ground from the regulator case to the frame. > Ground strap from the frame to the timing chest. > Ground from the regulator to the timing chest. > Routinely service and maintain the main negative battery cable to the gearbox ground behind the seat lock. > Made three attempts to use an external fuse holder for the 30amp charging fuse before soldering in a 30 amp circuit breaker. > Added auxiliary LED taillight/brake light/turn signals. > Consistently and repeatedly, clean, crimp, and seal every and all connectors. > Currently on my 6th generation of relays (never had a relay failure).
