  5. My beloved GH8N OMRON relays appear to have come NLA. The spec sheet for the Panasonic states they are silver alloy contacts rated 10amps NC / 20amps NO for continuous current. So, that appears to be better contact material than the GEI. Doesn't Relay 5 operate continuously Normally Closed for the fuel pump, coils and injectors? [Answer: negative. ] ______________________________________________________________________________________ edit/ Correction : (thanks, Kiwi_Roy!): Relay#5 (Fuel Injection/pump) operates through the NO (Normally Open) contacts carrying some 22.5 amps.

    Just for the record, there have been as many V11 through Scud's Crucible that there were at the very first South'n Spine Raid in 2003. It's like a crop circle of it's very own . . .

It is not critical that they are sealed. you can always seal them yourself by running a bead of epoxy around the bottom of the case edge. brlawson is running the Panasonic, I believe (although Panasonic may have different products for this application?), yet no one has dismantled them and compared directly like Ryland3210 did to compare the GEI and OMRON. The Panasonic are physically smaller, which brlawson thought would dissipate heat better (not bad thinking!), but I wonder at the internal materials and structure . . . (unknown).
  10. As many of you know, I am a fan of the OMRON relays for the V11. I found Ryland3210's evaluation compelling and have seen numerous (other) relay failures on V11 over the years. Yet, I'm afraid I keep posting a Digikey link for an part no longer available through them.   12. Must be oldtimers.. I was thinking the Coppa was 05. Guess I was wrong. Even our own "breakdown of model year changes" thread says through 2005, and the Scura R 2005-2006. I could have my recomollection all sideways, but I don't recall anyone confirming a 10th digit in the VIN later than 2004. that's not to say some V11 may have been sold as 2005, but it seems they were out of production by then (?)
  13. Sweet Eldo! The LeMans will be very happy at those speeds (and more! watch out!) The '03-'04 red or black are nice machines, the best sorted of the series. AFAIK, no 2005 V11 has ever been reported to exist. *Perhaps* the Scura R, but I'm not sure anyone has actually ever seen one and it, too, may have a 2004 VIN. Happy hunting!   14. I always step down my Sport battery into Swampee, the Cub Cadet, and get another 4 or 5 years from them. After getting the dedicated EnerSys charger last year, I'm expecting big things! Going to check my voltages now . . . see what needs charging.

  17. +1 on Chuck"s post re: Battery Tenders and the Odyssey. Hawker (EnerSys/Odyssey) publishes very specific parameters for both charge and float voltage/amperage. They are adamant to charge when the battery drops to 12.65v (85%, valid at 77ºF/25ºC) using 6 amps or more. Odyssey PC545 Battery conditioning That said, isn't it stunning to find a functioning battery 15 years old?

  20. I've done the waterproofing, CampDry and others. They do not appreciably restore the faded black (purple?) . . . but found that the darkening with a *spray paint* is nearly as water repellent. That said, I always use a polyethylene liner inside the panniers. AKA : *garbage bags*

"Why, from my local dealer in Seattle, Washington." (They're 2,400 miles away . . . There are other great sources in the US as well (not all are "official dealers").   22. Quite a long time ago, a member here used a light dusting of satin Krylon to refresh the fading. I scrub mine down every couple years and reapply.
  23. The charging voltage is, of course, too high as you know (it should be around 14.2v). The battery is not well below 12.65v and should be conditioned properly with correct voltage/amperage for the AGM battery. Perhaps this is worth trying now? See: Odyssey PC545 Battery conditioning Check the 5-step voltages: 1) Key off after 12 hours 2) Key on after two-three minutes 3) While cranking 4) at idle 5) at rpm from ~2000+
  24. Have you serviced the primary ground to the gearbox case and are sure the battery terminals are clean and tight? Main 30 amp fuse is in good shape, not melted or the flat connectors charred/burned? The battery condition has been tested?

    Hmmm, there is that . . . Simple to delete and see what changes in ride-ability. Otherwise, I would think that is a pretty "free-flowing" intake-exhaust set-up.
