  1. Depending on the gear oil you use, there is significant "cling" that makes the the volumetric refill likely to overfill. Especially with any RedLine - no telling how much of that stuff stays in the gearbox (and rear drive). If you can get the bike vertical, fill to the middle of the sight glass. It would be great if just that would settle your leak!

  3. Cool - as you go (you don't have to these all at once), work through the Tank Off Maintenance Checklist and Wheels Off Maintenance Checklist. They are compendia of so many contributions from posters and members here over these many years.
  4. Lesson Next: temperature I was pretty jazzed the one year old PC545 in the Sport was holding 12.80 v after 16 days charge from the Odyssey Omax. Then rolled it from almost 70ºF to 50ºF and the voltage dropped to 12.59v! That was more than I expected, so I did a series of discharge /recharge cycles using a six amp charger, not exceeding 15v. I'm sure it would have cranked right up, but I'm trying to learn all i can about this AGM charging business. This lesson: a well charged battery will change significantly when the bike is rolled out of a heated garage into the cold. **I wonder how much it would have changed simply turning the lights on for a few minutes and rechecking it. This simple procedure (initial discharge/battery warm-up) is giving me surprising results!
  5. If the bike has been sitting a good bit, consider a careful battery conditioning, reseat (or replace with OMRON) all the relays and plan on a complete tune-up, in that order. Just a fully charged battery can make an amazing difference! Well done, man!
  6. Not today, but yesterday, "pre-conditioned" my battery before riding a hundred miles along the winding creeks and over the ridges of the local countryside. I had forgotten how much the modified airbox woke her up! Tried to turn over 98,000 miles, but had to come home a bit short of that. Next time, for sure!

  8. AFAIK, the early Sport brackets (1999-2001) and the later "Naked" (2002-2004) are the same fork mounted pieces.

  10. In the meantime, think about setting the suspension sag and bias the weight distribution forward. I found this really helped the riding comfort as well as handling. This could (probably will) entail changing springs. But what are winters for otherwise?

  12. Bob, Others here may be able to go out to the garage and look at their Centauro, but I was thinking those parts are the same as V11. I don't see any other contact info for John besides the Motratech website. He hasn't been logged on here since 2011. I remember that Agostini fairing for the early LeMans. Bellissimo!!

  14. Zoup2nuts/Bob, I think the vendor you speak of is MotraTech which was a good outfit run by John . . . . M . . ., well, "John M." He posted here as Ryland3210, - a good guy, very knowledgeable. Graham's post above, Cafesport, is from 2011 and he hasn't been logged on for a coupla-three years. (another good guy and very capable and knowledgeable). You can see in his pictures the "dogleg" the gear shift lever takes just before the rubberized toe contact - this is where he added the inch.
  15. What can you see, looking into that hole for the switch?
  16. At the very simplest, remove the seat, turn the key on and touch the third/middle relay while switching the gear lever in and out of neutral. Can you feel it *click* each time?
  17. While I understand that you can get the neutral light to display on, can you confirm that the third (middle) relay is activating?
  18. Ah - that is very kind I can say that I recall the exhilaration of being passed by LowRyter's greenie on the Cherohala ascent at a South'n Spine Raid . With apologies to Winston Churchill (and I paraphrase deeply), "There is nothing more exhilarating than being passed by three or four V11 on a cool, clear forested road!" :race: :race:

I've tried, before, to get *someone* to provide us with a copy of the service bulletin that (purportedly) addresses this triple clamp change . . . *anyone????* Your part number is the same as mine (the later, more "relaxed" geometry). I'm not sure anyone has ever reported the earlier number. JBBenson, what is your build date on the left headstock tag? (your ser# is +233 from my Sport's 3/2000 build) My build date is 4/2000....I wonder how their VIN numbering system works. Is that 233 V11's built in one month, or 233 bikes total for that period? Considering a M-F manufacturing workweek, that makes about 10 bikes a day. Yeah, mine could have been built anywhere between 2 and 60 days before yours. AFAIK, no one has ever confirmed V11 production numbers.
  20. I've always used that "SAE" connector (rather than "cigarette lighter' connectors which can vary considerably). So, the Li-FePo doesn't need more than 2 amps to charge ( I ask because the PC545 needs 6 amps minimum)?

  22. I never thought of a USB connection as being rated for much amperage (?) What is the amperage output of the charger? (BTW, that kind of CCA makes me kinda jealous . . . . . . like double the PC545 . . .)
  23. Cool. Then, I doubt it has the early (steeper) triple trees. That number isn't easy to see, but can be found looking up under the top triple clamp from the right side behind the headlamp. Did I remember correctly that yours has the finned steel exhaust flanges?
  24. Just to be sure: this is lithium-iron (Li-Fe) ion technology? And while the original V11 Spark 500/ Odyssey PC545 is 150CCA, this one has what CCA?
