As i recall, that is the point at which the ITI/ Gen II V11 cable is vulnerable to break. What kind of cable lube did you use?
-
Right? And now that you have so many new friends, you'll need a fleet of V11 . . . one of each!

Did a little 70 mile shakedown ride on the Sport today. Felt GREAT! Aired up, fueled up, and ready to go. Finished all the tow vehicle and trailer prep today. Even mounted a proper hood ornament for the trip: Have Coffee, Will Travel!

I love the technology! and hate it . . . love it . . . hate it

Thanks for that, chamberlin. Signal connectivity would be Priority One. I'm still on the fence whether to to simply source a "local" signal, as in Kiwi_Roy's simple reed switch . . .
-
That's where I would go first. My tach is 300 rpm high, so an indicated 1,000 would be expecting a lot (of voltage, of oil pressure, etc) at 700 rpm. What harm is there to idle at 1200-1250? Better oil pressure, better charging, cleaner running idle . . .

Sheesh - you guys won't let a slacker get away with much . . . HA -so, yeah, I seated the steel rule against the spine frame and dropped a plumb line as fotoguzzi suggested and got the same measurement both sides +/- 1 or 2mm. It was a little fussy holding the rule, the plumb line, and getting the photo so my right side (dark side? ) photos were not so good, but the motor certainly appears centered to the frame. All this time . . .
-
Oh, ok - looks to be about two inches square? And there is not a "this side up" orientation?
-
Oh, my! This is only one reason of many that Jaap is The Chief Whip!
-
Excellent! Thanks for posting this! How about a pic of the cable hooked to the gearbox? I have been assuming it's a 'bent tube' affair similar to the later ITI style cable. How much clearance is there for the throttle rod?
-
Much appreciation for all of you who have shaken down this application. I am on Veglia speedo#3/tach#2, I feel certain this is in my Sport's future . . . How large is the GPS receiver, and where could one tuck it in on a Sport?
-
I knew this would be getting serious . . .

Seems I recall the second generation workshop manual does not have the drawings . . . When I stand up on the pegs with the bike firmly in the stand, upright, it certainly appears the engine is more prominent to the right. The only way I can think to properly measure it is with the tank off, dropping a plumb line at the side of the spine and measuring out to a fixed point on the head or valve cover. Jaap has my curiosity piqued now!
-
Are these drawings available on the site somewhere? I searched a bit could not find them. These are in the Workshop Manual, Section H page 10, for the early Sport available online from Teo Lamers. There are dimensioned drawings of the spine frame (although the top view only shows the rear cross tube), and the rear seat subframe. The front subframe and lower rear subframe are pictured, but not dimensioned.
-
I was just getting accustomed to being off-center! The proof *should be* in the front subframe . . . anyone have one off and can look at it for (a)symmetry?
-
I'm having trouble finding a way to make some proper measurements, but there is *about* 10mm more space between my front subframe and the exhaust "header" pipe on the right than there is on the left, but when I project forward from the heads with a rigid beam and measure to the side of the forks there is 125mm +/- 1mm on both sides (engine looks centered to the forks). Factory drawings dimension the right pork chop mount (rear cross tube of the spine frame) 9 mm further out than the left, but I cannot find dimensions for the engine mounts. But, I can also slide more of my hand between the tank and valve cover on the right . . . So, I'm confused having always accepted that the driveline was offset right 12mm . . .

How so?

Looking great! It would have taken me year to get all that done. I hope gstallons chimes in on the brake thing.
-
Regarding cleaning brake components, I recall gstallons being absolutely adamant not to use petroleum products (ie: WD40), but only brake cleaning solvent and silicone based lubricants. Any time the calipers are off it is good to work the pistons in and out while cleaning with brake solvent until they all move evenly. The improved brake feel can be remarkable.

V11 Sport Scura brochure archived in Fileshare.

There is not so much of an "answer" to that good question , but more of a discussion . . . For starters, the V11 LeMans came in two generations: the "inaugural" 2002 and Gen II. So many incremental changes crept in along the way, and year-model changes overlap, while the dates are further blurred by worldwide distribution. In short, the Rosso (red) and Nero (black) Corsa were second generation (2003-2004) LeMans (full fairing) with special paint/graphics and upgraded (Öhlins) suspension. Certainly, some of the best of the breed!

Those are the bridges of my (misguided) youth! Back in the day, The Authorities thought it a poignant deterrent to delinquency and dereliction to mount a speed sensor displaying a "If Lights are Flashing, You Are Speeding" message out on Clearwater Beach Causeway. The game became: how many palm trees away can you tromp it from a dead stop and still trip the warning. (The Cleveland powered Cougar could do it in two trees! We'll definitely be headed back into mid-Pinellas that direction. Everyone is welcome to come for any or all of the day. Nic and I are also planning a Friday foray along the "Nature Coast" (we always called it the Smuggler's Coast), from the Withlacootchee at Yankeetown up to Cedar Key and the mouth of the Suwanee. Anyone interested in exploring that series of dead-end roads - let me know and we'll expect you in Yankeetown (Inglis).

All the frame changes were starting 2002. I don't think the swingarm changed The Workshop Manuals and Parts Manuals are available online from Teo Lamers.- 15 replies
