  1. Oh, my! Don't leave us, Roy! Our electrons won't know what to do with themselves!
  2. The plug and the resistor cap are ridiculously vulnerable to even a light tip-over. For a few bucks and very little space all of us should be carrying a spare set of plugs and spark plug caps/resistor covers. One each for our bike and one each for our buddy's Guzzi!
  3. Looks like they're "in spec." And you're keeping a couple spares in your kit?
  4. A jam nut is nut a normal nut that is only 2-3 threads. They are use as "stops" to keep other nuts from backing out by counter-torquing them. They have enough thread that Locktite would be useful. I will try to determine the thread on that and see if a i can find one. Your are correct that the speednuts can't take as much pre-load as a normal nut, but I think they are there for manufacturing speed not to keep the housing from binding.. It doesn't seem like assembly speed would be much of an issue with only two of these easily accessed fasteners per unit. I wonder if these impart a bit of spring tension to keep them in place without requiring a torqued tightening?
  5. I suppose the idea behind the 'speed nut' is to create a tension on the pivot pin without closing the housing onto the lever. What would you use for a "jam nut?"
  6. Too, cool - I never heard that before. Apparently, the Speed Nut was invented by Albert Tinnerman. While speedy to install, they can evidently get gone in equally speedy fashion. I freely admit that I learned this method from a friend with a Ducati Monster.
  7. Yeah, the resistor/caps unscrew from the end of the ignition wire at which point you can simply measure the resistance. When I found one of mine had doubled in resistance, I thought it good method to replace it.
  8. In a pinch, you could always get a small pizza box and duct tape it to the top of your helmet . . .
  9. Oooooh, noooooo! Not the tractor thing again! So, evidently, the Champions were only used on the RedFrames and Rosso Mandello. Does the MTA part also contain a 5,000Ω resistor?
  10. I cross posted this on czakky's Head Guards thread. "I just bought a spare set of the red 90˚ Champion spark plug resistor caps on US ebay from Green Spark Plug Company LTD in UK for 13.88 USD. They are designated: Champion Spark Plug Cap PRO5M Red " I rather dislike posting ebay links since they die out shortly, but this one has a complete description of the actual OEM part for the early bikes with red caps, made in the UK by Champion.
  11. Wait, sorry - the link I posted is for the red spark plug boots that get crushed when the bike falls over (even with the stock head guards). The guards I show in post#8 above are Joe Kenney parts (that are apparently no longer available) which I added after a horizontal event disappointed me. [edit/28 April, 2021: Joe Kenney headguards are again available on US Ebay]: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254948894326?hash=item3b5c236676:g:pBUAAOSwrF1fVswE I edited my post to show the actual company in the UK that supplies the red Champion plug boots (resistor covers) that are also used on some Lambretta. Unless you're talking about the head guards being listed by the ebay seller in the Vale of Galmorgan (originally posted by czakky): http://www.ebay.com/itm/SQUARE-HEAD-GUARDS-WITH-CUT-OUTS-TO-FIT-MOTO-GUZZI-/231148142286?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item35d180bece
  12. "World specs" are 0,15mm/0,20mm (0.006"/0.008") Some US specs were tighter and "Raceco" specs are looser.
  13. Check out this view of Orson's Tenni in the Apuan Alps of northern Tuscany!
  14. Yeah, I've done it like this, but it didn't make me very happy.
  15. A tank bag is easy to put on. Strap up from behind around the rear tank mount. I like to cross the straps through the forward tank gap and around the headstock instead of down the sides of the tank. A little tank bag, a pair of Tekno panniers (that can carry a full case of ale!), Sports-Touring at its best! Pie? I dunno about that . . .
  16. That would be the easiest thing to change: delete the PC and see what happens . . . Otherwise, I would look for power dropping out from the ignition switch or the relays.
  17. Sheez, man, I listed all that stuff I carry on the Sport and I forgot the pie!
  18. I added this service point and warning to the Wheels Off Maintenance Checklist. Thanks, Sean, for taking time to share this concern!
  19. While the bike is on the computer, be sure to have the technician set the CO trim, that the valves are 0.006"/0.008", fresh plugs, and the TPS set before synchronizing the throttle bodies. Inspect the main 30 amp fuse for signs of heat damage and be sure you are running high quality relays. It would also be worth cleaning the ignition switch contacts and inspecting its internal wiring. The TPS, itself, can develop a glitch right at its most common openings which can cause a nasty hiccup.
  20. That is the usual location per the manual. I suppose we can make this the next Tech Session at the Eleventh South'n Spine Raid and look a few of them over all at once. Or maybe a poll - we haven't had one of those for a while! When we say "behind the seat latch," the standard location is most easily accessed by removing the seat latch, but the ground should not actually be fastened by the seat latch bolt. I can't see anything in the diagrams that would block the fastener, or shift, with just that one bolt removed. Maybe someone with gearbox experience (Andy York ) could chime in?
  21. I think this is taken from their performance in Frankfort, 2006. "All the Roadrunning" seems a propos for V11 music!
  22. There are, apparently, more than location for the ground/ earth cable depending on Luigi's whim, perhaps, or subsequent technician's reassembly. The manual shows it under the 11:00 position looking forward at the output shaft cover. Although, Kiwi_Roy found his under the seat latch bracket and moved it outboard to the 1:00 position for easy access. Sean, could you take a photo or describe where yours is located?
  23. Are you still using the ECU that had been opened and the connector modified?
  24. If the bike is sitting still while you tune and balance, be sure to blow a big fan over the motor constantly. Are you using a shop stand of some kind to keep the bike vertical?
