That is a very nice compliment, but that picture is from the Workshop Manual . . .

Sean, it sounds like the bolt may have broken on removal. Was your ground bolted to the back of the gearbox as in this picture, or into the boss facing right for the actual seat lock release?
-
Must be a perfect world when your "local Guzzi shop" is Teo Lamers!

Rode a Triumph Street Triple R today...
docc replied to Guzzi2Go's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Spoken like a true Guzzisto! I thought the Street Triple were going to be the perfect bike. I found it just whiney and peaky. -
John, the V11 have their regulator on, or in, the tank. Is the EV regulator an "inline" unit? You have a part number?
-
If the bike has not run very much while you have been working on it, perhaps a fluid change and some running in will turn it to 3 drops . . . There are many specialized lubricants which may be helpful in this. Not saying it will "fix" the seal, but perhaps give you some riding time before the swingarm must come back off (at least you are very familiar with this tear down!). I wonder if the seal can be exchanged with the gearbox in place. Seal Whisperers will know . . .

In a very rational sort of way, sure. No doubt, Moto Guzzi has long been known to introduce changes at any time in the production run while mixing various old and new parts perhaps to "use up" old stock. Interesting - PDoz' complete 2003 V11built in July 2002 as a 2002. It gives some credence to the "August break" theory, although apparently just for the VIN not the configuration of the bike itself! FWIW, my 1990 Honda GB500 was built June, 1989. There certainly seems to be no industry standard.

Learn something here every day! You gotta state your build date now Docc! It says 3-2000, which is interesting because the SN is #1530 into the year 2000 build range. Looks like they were cranking them out in those days!

Where are you guys seeing the build date?

Thanks for posting the pic PDoz! Another question: what was the production date on the plaque? Docc, don't think it can have the internal fuel pump and the chin pad together? They are completely different tanks...but maybe? Never heard of anyone converting their old style tank to internal fuel pump (to mitigate the vapor lock issue...). But I am curious about the Veglias and the wheelbase/tire width too! Flaky matte engine paint I suspect? Although your bike looks perfect, and my paint has become dull too. Frames and wheel widths are the same 2002 on. True that chin pad tanks (external pump) are early through 2002 along with the white face Veglia. I was curious to see if PDoz' "late '02" still had any '02 features or really has complete 2003 kit including the satin (not fuzzy) engine paint.

Veglia gauges and chin pad tank?

BTW, that pic of the melted loom makes me wonder if the black painted cases make for grounding issues . . . Worth cleaning all the paint off under the grounds and using "star washers" to dig in to the metal.

Once my Hawker is fully charged (there are different ways to do that alone!), and it settles into its normal 12.84 volts, my Sport takes about 5-7 days to drop to 12.6. Just one reference point for comparison.

Sure, none of US have done anything like that . . . If you get caught at fixing your V11 without posting the results, you will not be banned from the forum. They make you a moderator.

It's hard to imagine it doesn't have something to do with your last round of maintenance and repair of the front seal Like something didn't get plugged back up right. You had the crank sensor off? You are certain your replacement O-ring did not change the seating (which affects the timing)? You did refit the thin spacer fitted to it without changing its thickness?
-
Yeah, that's a spectacular shot of czakky's loom. I've always taken your grounding advice to heart adding grounds and keeping them fresh. Here's a photo from the Workshop Manual showing the (intended) factory location:

Roy, I agree that the cable lock for the seat is a bad place for the ground, but I don't think anyone has found it there but on your V11. Surely some PO or technician must have misplaced it there instead of the gearbox bolt.

It works! And sounds great!

Maybe a fresh battery in the multi-meter for those resistance tests?
-
Nice Scrambler! Can you get to the gearbox drain with out removing the exhaust?

Hey, Roy, what would make it better? (I've been planning on the jump to SpeedHut when my current Veglias play out . . .)

Nero Corsa motor seized at 70mph, plenty of clean oil, 18k miles

Good to hear someone like Ed has the bike and can get to the core of the trouble. I wish she had worked out better for you. A few years back, I rode a Speed Triple on a whim. Kept me up nights thinking about it! Gnarly good fun. Anxious to get the report back from Ed. Thanks for keeping us posted, Splicer!
