  1. What do motorcyclists do in the depths of winter? Maintenance? Restoration? Performance upgrades? Actually, no. They drink ale and use the web to plan trips and gatherings in the warmer weather! Come who may, some of them will end up in Tellico Plains, Tennessee, June 22-24, 2012, for the Eighth South'n Spine Raid (SSR8). Individual reservations can be made directly with The Lodge at Tellico. As in the past, this is a non-event with no affiliation with Moto Guzzi, any website/administrator/moderator/or member, any participant, poster, or poseur. There is no organization, no plan, no support, no registration, no solvency, and no accountability. No t-shirt, no stickers, no poker run. Otherwise, a good time is had by all who wander on. Use this thread to post your intent and maybe find other riders traveling in from your area. With just three days to ride, it really is about the journey! Well, and the tire kicking, wire crimping, and tall tales of sweeping corners on mountain passes. Although we are celebrating the Moto Guzzi Spine Frames (1992-2005), all are welcome. Ride in, fly in, drive in. Any make, any model. Just bring your smile.
  2. Good news on the date (I hope): Pending confirmation by the High Command (read: Bill's lovely wife, Kathy), the Ayth South'n Spine Raid is June 22-24, 2012, in Tellico Plains. Hoping to get close enough to lock that in before long!
  3. Hi, Pete, Is that to read clearances (other than) 5/7, 4/6? Or (greater than) . . . or ? Thanks for the clarification.
  4. Love the return to the "round fin" jugs. Of course, this new genre all have 1.8 litre fuel tanks . . . Makes me want an old round fin to have my way with . . .
  5. Really interesting theory to let the outlet run looser . . .
  6. My memory fails . . . my manuals say 0,10 mm intake/ 0,15 mm exhaust (0.004 / 0.006) - is that "euro spec?" And some US manuals went on to specify 0.002/0.004? The "RACECO" spec is - 0.006/0.008? ) or 8/10 - I forget . . .
  7. Aw, ya made me look! Happy Holidays to all and a Joyous New Riding Season!
  8. I use one from WIX (33310) for the Isuzu Trooper. It has the same flow and filtration as the Weber. It is slightly shorter, so I fitted a longer line from the pump (maybe an extra 2-3 cm/ one inch).
  9. I complained about this when my Sport was under warranty. To the dealer's credit, he suggested I not turn the ignition on/off or start the bike briefly (like we we do to listen to its lovely note). GuzziNA replaced my entire throttle body/injector assembly under warranty. The frame had to be burst (crabbed). As it turns out, if you cycle the ignition, or run the motor only briefly - the throttle bodies are more likely to weep, seep, tear, blink, or drip. Yeah, they do that. If it gets really bad, there is an elaborate fix. Search, and then, once more, under "relevance."
  10. You can Dremel a groove above the reset shaft to the bezel so the internals can be slid out of the case with the shaft intact. Reseal the groove with RTV silicone on reassembly.
  11. Awesome! I carry mine in the window of my tank bag. People have tried to tell me it's for maps, but what do they know?
  12. That's brilliant. Even with the standard "fast idle" setting, I could have laid my cold, wet throttle hand on the cam cover for a bit back in that last frozen hand ride. Strange things affect you when your left hand is happy but your right hand is not . . .
  13. The bikes are pretty much the same, but the guys who ride the Sports are all handsome and well spoken. No, really, the '02 stuff had issues and the '03 should be the better bike whether Sport or LM. You can tell by the engine paint if the '03 was just a hold-over '02 if the paint is fuzzy, bubbly, or flaky. It should be smooth and tight. Also, does the '03 Sport have handlebars (not clip-ons)? Nice riding position. Some of the '02 bikes had the engine/drive-line paint "repaired" which means it's been taken all apart. I'd vote '03. Of course, then you'll have a Sport and join the Handsome/Well-spoken Set.
  14. You just gotta love a guy that can say "@#!#$# OFF!!!" and "Cheers" in the same post. Kind of sums it up!
  15. Aside from a little blip in the availability of finance, I don't see any candy lovers giving up their desires. The trouble with the true poseurs is that they will always have to be moving on to something new. Perhaps it is good that Moto Guzzi has never become a real Boutique Brand. Although, I probably should get a flashy new jacket and a fresh hair-look. In the long run, the ethos of what is motorcycling springs ever eternal for those with it deep in the veins. Fashionable, or no, we will ride, rub, wrench, and refit. (them four Rs)

    Rosso Corsa rescue

That's fabulous! I love the high, tucked pipes.
  17. You can keep your flywheel with all of these options? I guess I had the impression it was one of the most suspect parts in the equation.
  18. Valve adjustment , spark plugs, and a throttle body balance will make her feel like your best girl with a new diamond bracelet and a night on the town. But for under fifteen bucks!
  19. I wonder how important it may be to "dry" the tank out allowing it to recover its original shape before application . . . Let's hope this is a good solution. These tanks ain't gettin' any younger.

Neat, Dave! I like it. A "Blue Frame" Sport!
  21. One of my favorite remarks about the Sport was from a fellow who got back out of his family's car at a coffee shop (sorry, but no tea houses on this side ) saying, "Is that Italian? That's a work of art!" Another, outside a Harley dealer (I think I was there to get a TPS), a lady going in asked, "What's that?" In my best Italian, I answered, "Eetsa Mot'-a Guzz'-a " The Asian-looking sales lady kinda repeated it mockingly, but I know it gave a little tingle.

    Rosso Corsa rescue

A Rosso Corsa pulled behind a Rosso MINI! What a sight! I suppose a brake lever and a brake line might be had from some of the usual suspects like MI, MPH, Harper's. Otherwise, Joe Kenny makes some nice stuff and that lever as well. CycleBrakes(aka Galfer) will make up lines for your application (as do others). Keep us posted on the progress!
  23. No "new" Stelvio at Barber's. The Guzzi reps there said maybe 2013 But, hey, EICMA is next month! Looking forward to the news. And hoping the Italians can afford to hire models to pose with the bikes again this year!
  24. Looks interesting, but my browser doesn't seem to be able to make that link . . .
  25. I just rode a pretty aggressive sport-tour with an 8V Stelvio that got like 41-43 USmpg (into N. AR not far from Springdale!). Even if the "claimed" 8.4 is like my Sport's "claimed" 5.8 (5.1 actual), the new Stelvio should go 288 miles at 39 mpg. Works for me - 288 is a magical number . . .
