  1. It's probably not that bad. Start with checking the voltage and making sure the battery connections are tight. Check the relays and all fuses and visible connections. Open the run switch and clean it with contact cleaner. After that you may have to pull the tank to get to some other connections. Can you hear the pump whir when you turn the bike on?
  2. I like my Gerbings gloves (33 watts) but found they were too much for the electrics with the jacket (77 watts). The alternator is rated for 350, but at 10,000 rpm! It make more like 250 at typical cruise speeds and may have 50 or 60 available for accessories. But 5wt oil in aGuzzi? I dunno . . .
  3. Dlaing, Ryland: Thanks for taking the time to see this through while patiently considering all the input and comments.
  4. The Ohlins for the V11 is , apparently, "no longer available."
  5. Should the engine be at operating temperature for the throttle body balancing?
  6. With a vacuum meter ( mercury sticks or such), doesn't the running motor become a flow meter? I can't imagine not balancing the throttle bodies.
  7. I thought the yellow paint was to help us find all the points of adjustment. Check out the TPS thread. You can probably do this yourself . . .
  8. Why would we specify mV +/- "5" in paragraph one then recommend fine tuning (so to speak) in paragraph 4 of "15" mV? Seems like it should be the other way round. Also, shouldn't there be a recommendation for valve adjustment as a first step?
  9. No outstanding warrants? I hear Phillip's is a good place for motorcyclists, yet I'm still thinking there may be a better place. Especially if the group expands again. Input from the North Carolina and East Tennessee members is most respected. . .
  10. Voices of reason rise above the din . . . ah, the 'sweet spot' . . .I could ride on forever . . .
  11. I'm a little vague on how one cylinder can be measured agianst the other. Riding yesterday I pondered the antithesis of the flat spot: the sweet spot. You know, right there about 5,000 rpm where the world begins to spin on greased grooves.
  12. Not if you keep their oils topped up.
  13. I don't think that is the diagram for an '02 with the white faced Veglia. That looks like the later drive for the black faced instruments (is that "ITI?").
  14. For 2008 South'n Spine Rahiders are looking for new digs. Do any of you have an opinion on Phillips Motel in Robbinsville, NC? phillipsmotel
  15. So, can a drenched Sport be set upright and ridden off? (Like a 1911 with the mud shaken out?)
  16. Let us remember the Moto Guzzi eagle is the eagle of the early Italian Air Force (flying mostly the SPADA) and is given to remind us of the fallen comrade (Ravelli).
  17. As Murray said, the relay system drops the headlamp during cranking. The advantage to the Euro switchgear is to run along with only the 'city lamp', a 4watt bulb in the headlamp shell. This, ostensibly, saves charging power when doodling around Rome and should be OK where 'drivers' are aware of motorcycle traffic. Here in the States, where folks tend to pull out in front of Fire Trucks and Trains, I think I'll run my PIAA on hi-beam with a thumb on the Fiamms.
  18. No crossover?
  19. In fact the V11 has about the same power to weight ratio as an empty P51 Mustang. the cornering and banking are the same, but don't try any loops!
  20. Single cylinder (thumpers) do this commonly. Known as 'flame out' you can expect it to go away with a good tune and proper idle.
  21. Gotta love it when it turns out to be something easy!
  22. I suppose I could switch to a microfiber rag without offending my sensibilities . . .
  23. Er, I use a 'rag.' Is that too Luddite?
  24. I'm glad I asked . . . I am getting some pinging at really hard throttle in the hottest ambient temperatures. It' good to know I've probably advanced my ignition timing with the higher TPS setting. Still no account or confirmation for tachometer error . . .hmmmm . . .
  25. All that waterproof grease, silicone grease and moly sure must make the mechanism work well, but it also spits plenty of goop on the wheel. I had to assure some fellow riders that a Guzzi with no grease on the wheel is a Guzzi with no grease . . .
