  1. Fuel line to the pump got pushed down too close to the left cylinder?
  2. I looked back at your original post and didn't see any mention of the Power Commander.
  3. I'll bet it turns out to be simpler than that. Did you look closely at the rubber intakes to be sure one has not popped loose?

Go figure . . .It runs better on 89 octane. Still, I've never seen it so lean.
  5. Hey, 'least he left a little gap for us bikes to get by on the outside . . . Great roads and great area . . . come to the South'n Spine Raid next year!
  6. I don't believe the throttle bodies can be synched with the Axeone. The manometer will work. The TPS must be calibrated fully closed first, then adjusted for the 3.6 degree opening. You can do this with a multimeter. You can tune this by following the pinned tune-up thread at the top of "Technical Topics." Keep a high volume fan on the front of the cylinders while working o avoid the heat build. Best of luck and let us know how it is going! And, remember, when she is running like a dream, you did it!
  7. If the simple checks above are all good, go the tune-up procedure pinned at the top of the Technical Topics forum.

Good point on the higher octane. It did flame out idling at a stop in the heat today. I may try some 89 and see if it trades stumble for ping. Is the ethanol harder to ignite?

It seems as though every thing I've done has made an incremental improvement. At this point, it will get the occasional *cough* sitting at idle or rolling along in the 'lean' rpm range (4000-4500). It's worse when the ambient temperature is higher or if the motor is hot (stuck in traffic). I'm curious to see if it's worse when I run out of this high octane leaded race fuel and go back to 10% ethanol.
  10. So much red meat , so little time\.\.\. If we can get VASean to stop here in Tn on the way back, we'll get up a 'mess' of bean sprouts and tofu so he can decompress before arriving home. OK, and it's true . . .I ain't got no 'Tina" . . . (I'm thinking Sean will pass to the north (at 80 mph) and pass on the bean sprouts . . .

The intakes were 0.007. I was glad to see they hadn't tightened up. I reset to 0.006/0.008 and rode about 30 miles. Still burps, occasionally, hot at idle. I changed the plugs (colder:BPR7ES), still burps occasionally at idle or just barely cracking the throttle. But just when it's hot. I do have high expectations . . . It runs absolutely great otherwise! I'll try setting the CO with an Axone. After that I'm moving , with the Sport, to Mandello and see if it's just climate.
  12. I prefer to have my little white knob only touched by Maria. Or Sophia. But don't tell Maria . . .
  13. Twice on the recent South'n Spine Raid, the FIAMMs were immensely useful. Once they turned two dogs around who were on a downhill run into our path. And a second dog was stopped in his tracks: this was the BIGGEST DAMN DOG I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!! He was as big as my Sport and stopped on the center line. I thought I saw a little tire smoke waft up from his front paws! I don't think my stock 'squeakers' would have had the same effect.
  14. I prescribe a long ride . . .

If the side stand switch doesn't shut the bike off with the stand down while in gear, it could be unsafe to ride as you could ride away with the stand down only to find out in the next left hand turn. Otherwise, it could be bad to leave the bike on the stand and find the bracket eventually break from the stress and leave your bike on the ground. This is on a 2000.
  16. I've gotten dizzy making plumbing diagrams to get that fuel, too. An inline regulator and second petcock with a cross over line would do it, but it's messy and the mini regulators are pricey . . .

Doesn't that bolt hold the front portion of the side stand bracket to the engine case? It also appears to help locate the switch. Is your switch working OK? (Bike shuts off if the side stand is put down while in gear) This is a standard hex drive fastener. A little blue LocTite is probably a good idea. Pete, the "Spine Frame" Guzzi have a rectangular box frame that runs from the steering head between the cylinders to a cross member between the side plates that mount the swingarm. Earlier Guzzi frames used more conventional tubes that surrounded the engine on both sides. In spine frames, the engine and gearbox are 'stressed members' and part of the structure (not "cradled" by frame tubes). Spine frame Guzzis started with the Daytona (1991-98), continued with the Sport1100/1100 Sport (94-98),the Centauro (96-??), and the V11(Sport and LeMans variants, 1999-2004). Hmm, I suppose also the MGS01?

I'm running 0.006/0.008, but it's been almost exactly 4000 miles. I'll give the lash a check before I change the plugs.

    Gas pump question

The best information I had ever seen on this was that the 'transition' could contain about 3/4 gallon, or 3 liters, of the last fuel pumped. That would lower your 91 octane fuel to 90.25 on a 4 gallon fill up. Worse yet, what is 10% ethanol doing to the octane rating and the relative air/fuel ratio? My Sport seems most unhappy with the fuel lately . . .

Good point on the mixture. I'll get the bike to Corse Motorsports and tweak the CO.

Thanks, I think I will try a colder plug and see they look any different after 4000-6000 miles.
  22. The Sport continues to stumble at idle and generally act lean. A careful retune helped, but the burble remains. Short of adding a Power Commander and doing a valve job, I'd like to try all the simple stuff. Switching to a non-ethanol high octane fuel doesn't appear to have made a real difference. Before having the CO tweaked, I'll change the plugs and adjust the valves even though it's only been about 4500 miles. What is it, exactly, about "colder range" sparkplugs? They don't really make the motor any cooler? Would they help the borderline lean condition?
  23. I vote 'relay' with a dedicated power wire from the battery. You could just plug them in to the factory harness, but all the power goes through the switch and its rather small wiring.
  24. I have had four or five different tires on my Sport (56,000 miles). I like the Diablo Strada. I have run the 'Corse' as a front and got about half the miles. Still, I want the front to stick. It is OK for me to change the tires with the plugs (4000-6000). To me, harder tires (with higher pressures to get more miles), means sliding into a 3-series sedan on an uphill decreasing radius right turn. The 'Stradas' feel good; I gave the Pilot Roads away . . .
  25. I was never able to get more than 5.1 US gallons in my 2000 Sport. I guess those late model tanks are really better. I always rely on the "tip-slosh" reserve. My tank holds maybe 0.8 gallons in the right side. A deep 'tip-slosh' will spill enough fuel into the left side fuel pick-up to make it down the road a considerable distance. WFO throttle goes further . . . Do the later tanks 'tip-slosh' ??
