I had this same problem recently, that left me stranded a handful of miles from home. Then it left me stranded again (after I fixed the wrong problem LOL). Then it almost left me stranded a 3rd time when the fix (soldering job) decided to un-fix itself. Finally, the stator was replaced and all was right in the world again. The frustrating part of it was that the charging "idiot light" was true to its name, and acted like an idiot - either not lighting up at all, or briefly coming on and going out again a short time later. This, combined with my general disdain for idiot lights, prompted me to wire up a compact volt meter I got from Aerostitch. Hopefully, no more surprises in the future. __Jason

Haven't been around in a while, but here are some recent pics...

I believe the headlight is fairly common. I'm pretty sure my 2000 Ducati Monster uses the same exact headlight. __Jason
-
Assuming your '00 Sport still has it's stock headlight, that's all you need. I've got the same bike with the same fairing, and the stock headlight just bolts right into it. __Jason

Thanks Paul - yes, I'm planning to have the piece I need made up. I've seen various solutions to this - some here on the forum... I don't think I'll have a problem with it... just need some time to do it. __Jason

I'm curious about something... this new sump is stamped with the name "RR Racing". Is anyone familiar with the company that makes it? Did they perhaps take over production from Moto Spezial? Just wondering. As a side note, I haven't been able to mount this one just yet. Still trying to work out how I want to go about connecting the breather return line, as this sump is tapped for an M20x1.5 connection rather than the stock M16. __Jason

I guess now the bike will match the owner __Jason

Bah! I intended to check with MI first too... sure would have been a bit more convenient :-/ __Jason

That seems about right... but the torque figures seem a bit off... I wouldn't kick her out of bed though! __Jason

Just wanted to blow the dust off this thread for a moment... I've been trying track one of these deep sumps down off and on for a few years now. But, I finally found one! Just arrived today from Teo Lamers Their site is showing 3 more in stock, so if anyone is interested: http://www.tlm.nl/magazijn/webshop/detail.html?aid=12166 I haven't laid eyes on it yet, but I just got an email from my mechanic who says it was delivered today. I had it sent to him because I might miss the package otherwise. Can't wait to lay hands on it... finally! __Jason

Early on, I was having issues cornering on the V11S... it almost felt to me that the front end was losing traction slightly in corners... whether or not it was, I can't say for sure, but it was definitely making for some hair-raising rides. Even got to the point where I was considering getting rid of the bike if I couldn't get it sorted. Ended up having a brief chat with Todd Eagan about it, and decided to try setting up the bike based on the suggestions he wrote up here. Felt like a whole new bike afterwords. I keep my damper at the minimum setting. __Jason

I've got (what appears to be) the same manual petcock pictured above on my 2000 V11S and no issues. __Jason

They forgot "soused", and just plain "shit faced". __Jason

Are you sure it's the cable, or perhaps one of the angle drives? From my experience, it seems that the angle drives will fall apart if you look at them funny... __Jason

My understanding is that this *mainly* affects 2002 bikes with possibly a few from other years mixed in. I see a number of MY2000 owners chiming in here that they have *not* had the problem. Are there any confirmed cases of this problem popping up on 2000 bikes? FWIW, my 2000 V11S has about ~19K miles on it with no spring problems. (I say "about" because the spedo/odo was busted for a few thousand miles or so). I was beginning to wonder if I should add a spring to my survival kit, but I'm starting to think that my bike may be safe. Of course, I've probably jinxed myself now... __Jason

Different owner. You dealt with Franz. Roland worked for Franz for a number of years, but I don't think for that long. Franz finally got out of the biz a couple years ago and sold it to Roland. With that said, when Franz was still there, I never had any issues with him... but the 80s were a different time, and I wasn't around then. Sorry... I don't mean to spout off. I don't doubt you had some problem with them, but I do doubt that your experience from 20-odd years ago has any relevance today. __Jason

I've only got about 500 miles on mine so far, and haven't pushed it all the way yet. The most astonishing thing so far is how butter smooth the motor becomes @5K RPM and above. Vibes just vanish - although I suspect this may be the result of the Carrillos and balancing job that was done. __Jason

Yes... FBF's dyno is *famously* overoptimistic. Darius - which cam did you get? I've got the 620x10 (along with lots of Mike's other handywork). After I finish re-breaking it in, I'd like to take a trip up to Mike's shop and have him do a dyno run. __Jason

If you've done away with your airbox, you should be able to get to the front "tab" of the seat and pry it up until it releases. Other than that, all I can think of is brute force... but I'm not sure how well it would work. it seems that if you could get the seat pan to flex enough, it should also cause the front to release. Or it will break the seat. Edit: just saw Dave's response. His suggestion seems far more logical than mine. __Jason

FBF is not famous for it's customer service. I used to take my Ducati there. Used to. My suggestion: no time like the present to learn to do your own tune up. If you would rather not do it yourself now, then you might want to give Roland a call at the Spare Parts Co (215-922-2214). He's located in Old City Philadelphia. There is a pretty good crowd of Guzzi owners in Philly, and he's been servicing their bikes for years. I would be *very* surprised if your bike actually needed a power commander at this point. I have one now due to heavily modified engine... however, I ran the stock ECU for many miles with no airbox and aftermarket x-over and exhaust. If after a proper tune up you think you still need a PC, install it yourself and talk to Todd over at guzzitech.com - I'll bet that he's probably got a suitable map for your bike. __Jason

It's hard to be humble...

With some lightening and balancing, I'm sure they could coax 1 or 2 more RPM out of it. I wonder if it needs a sloppage plate to handle acceleration forces... __Jason -
Ah, nice! I was afraid there was some drama, but it appears that all went more or less according to plan. __Jason
