You might get the lens a little cheaper than that at a Ducat or Buell shop. I think I got the whole tail lamp with lens for under $40 at a Buell shop, but don't recall the price for sure. Buell taillights that might cross reference are: 96-98 S1 99-02 X1 97-02 M2 00-05 Blast Ducati possible cross refs: 94-07 MONSTER 600 / 750 / 900 and maybe more Warning, I have not verified the cross refs, I just got them from an LED taillight vendor that sells clear and colored lenses for about $40. The model numbers don't match exactly, but I am sure if you went to the dealer they probably have a floor model you could match up, or the part in stock.

Yah, what is this all about? All I see is In the U.S. the state of Oregon proposed something similar. The main reason for the motivation seems to be the growing number of fuel efficient vehicles that heaven forbid consume less fuel and pay less tax per mile. IMHO, less tax per mile should be an incentive to maintain and use a green machine. But the study by Oregon focuses on how unfair it is for the gas guzzlers to pay for more of the road maintainance than fuel efficient machines, of which motorcycle would fall into the category of. IMHO, the one place where a mileage tax would make sense over a fuel tax would be the number of vehicles that run on non-taxed fuels becomes a significant number. For example if 20% of Oregon switched to electric vehicles, they might pay a lower tax, which would be a little on the unfair side if you value road repairs above dependency on fossil fuels, peace in the middle east, greenhouse effect, smog, lung cancer, etc. However if 50% of Oregon switched over to electric vehicles, the tax really might become an unfair burden, and a goverment inspected and taxed odometer might make sense on electric vehicles. But in my opinion, the small savings in fuel taxes that hybrids offer is hardly something worthy of an invasive new government buracracy that discourage green machines

Could be an after market marketing opportunity. Oh, you want logic The tricky thing is your symptoms seem to defy logic But we know that is not possible, so let us not give up hope Logically when you hit the start button and a fuse blows, it seems to indicate that current has flowed through the start switch and grounded out somewhere between the start switch and the solenoid. But all of those places should have been unscathed by a suddenly grounded battery. I suppose a melted wire harnass might do the damage. You could start by probing the lead that activates the solenoid, the wire going to the solenoid, the socket terminals for the starter relay and the clutch switch wires. I suppose if a harnass had melted, the damage would likely be betweent the starter solenoid and the clutch switch. I don't know what reading you should get on the solenoid, so we'll skip that for now unless someone wants to fill us in on the appropriate Ohm reading. Here is my best attempt at logical steps: A) I would start by checking between the solenoid and the starter relay socket. Pull the starter relay (forward most one) from the socket. Pull all the fuses so you don't blow your ohm meter. Pull the small wire off of the solenoid. Keep the ignition key off. Using a continuity or ohm meter check for continuity between the 87 terminal in the relay socket and wire going to the solenoid. Having proven the continuity to be fine, check for continuity between either the disconnected solenoid wire or the 87 terminal at the relays socket and ground. If you get continuity from that test, you have found your problem. If not, proceed to step B... B) Check for continuity between ground and the 85 terminal of the starter relay socket. You should NOT have continuity, if you do have continuity, you found your problem. If not, proceed to step C... C) Pull in the Clutch lever and simultaneously check for continuity between ground and the 85 terminal of the starter relay socket. You should NOT have continuity, if you do have continuity, you found your problem. If not, proceed to step D... D) D is for for Drink...so, drink a beer and write us for more help....that is all I can muster up right now. E) Reconnect Everything.

Something else obvious to check is for a loose wire. Likely culprits in this case would be a dangling wire by the clutch switch or by the starter...Although a shorted alligator clip should not have caused that to happen, maybe a resulting sudden motion by you knocked a wire loose.

Assist please--won't start **fixed-neutral switch**
dlaing replied to stormsedge's topic in Technical Topics
It does seem likely to be a bad neutral switch, possibly compounded by a weak battery, and maybe even a bad relay. Try grounding out the wire going to the neutral switch and see if the neutral light comes on (with key in on position). -
But he gets the honor of being labled a Guzziphobe Just kidding!!!! We know he likes Guzzis. Second place in his heart is still good enough for booty calls, if he finds such an opportunity. I know I would not mind a periodic one day stand with a Buell

Quit your bleeding heart crap and feel the hate. The righteous would have hit the brakes in time, slipped under the barbed wire, pulled the wire snips out, thought for a second about snipping the wire, and then said, nah and gassed out of there with prayers in their head that Darwinism would weed out the next rider with less than 20/20 vision. Some will dodge a large rock that makes their heart skip a beat mid turn and continue down the road, while others turn back and remove that rock. Your life may have been saved by someone you never met, and someone who is a better person than you or maybe just a bleeding heart fool...Perhaps there are real angels here on Earth or maybe the rocks just move themselves out of the way

I'll be keeping my eyes out for an obituary. The number of flowers left at the scene is heart warming. If there were no chain there, because of the dip, you would be pushing it very fast at 30MPH. My guess is he was probably doing about 20MPH, but it easily could of been 10-30MPH. I suppose he had probably driven up the driveway before. I think they only started chaining it about 2-3 years ago. I rode my motorcycle up the drive when there was no chain. The drive was inviting to a motorcycle. It was good they put the chain up to prevent mischievous teens from having parked car orgies. I just regret not having done something about it, because it crossed my mind many times. I won't beat myself up over it, because I know the same thoughts must of crossed many other people's minds. It is just kind of like in retrospect you should not have had all that candy when you are getting fitted for dentures. I know better and yet I still do the wrong thing. It is a simple case of coulda, woulda, shoulda, and now somebody is dead, that is all. And maybe there is even an argument to be made that I should not have done anything. This will surely have an impact on the many children that cross by that gate. Perhaps the impact of this death will have a butterfly effect towards a better destiny

From a similar thread, mznyc posted, pointing back to his problem I really don't have much of a clue on this case. Everyone gave great advice. The only thing I might add is that if you don't have great trouble shooting skills, start with the easy stuff like pulling all the fuses and test them for continuity. Rotate your relays, assuming they are all five pin and not four pin. Or better yet, buy a complete set of GEI five pin relays from Pyro Dan Here is a long shot diagnosis: Make sure you got the correct cables back on the battery and that the polarity is correct. Your symptoms might indicate a reverse polarity scenario!!!! Also, check that all the wires that should connect to the battery are connected. It is easy to let one slip down beside or under the battery. And don't forget Josh's post, If that advice does not help, maybe we could give you some other point by point advice,.

When I was a teen we used to ride through the woods. Some of it was marked trespassing and some wasn't. The neighboring homes did not like the sound of motorcycles, and would often cut down trees as barriers to the trails, but once in a while they would put up fish line. A riding buddy of mine lost most of his teeth I don't remember if that property was marked no tresspassing, but I was and would be all in favor of suing the bastard that did that. My recollection was that the suspicion fell on the haters of noisy motorcycles and not the owner of the land which was probably just a corporation of developers. To me the malicious intent of the fish line differs greatly from the common place stupidity of putting up a chain that was not very visible, which is also very different than a commonplace and not so stupid, barbed wire fence. A single strand of barb wire strung at neck height across a path should fetch a prison sentence, IMHO.

Thanks for the comments, I hope they don't sue, but we do live in a culture of blame. I love the internet stories of injured burglars suing the owners of homes they burgled. Our society has gone way overboard. Even in Australia the Burglars sue for damages for that and more stories, http://www.overlawyered.com/archives/00nov3.html#001121b In California we are so spoiled by all the left turn lights that we don't know how to turn left at a light without a green arrow. Still, with few exceptions, I don't think intersections without stop or yield signs are a good idea in my neighborhood of idiot drivers.

I moved to my house three years. The house is on a nice quiet suburban street that overlooks the back of an elementary school yard. The road turns 90 degrees when it hits the school yard, but if you were to go straight, you would run up a driveway alongside the school yard. But you cannot go straight because 99% of the time a chain blocks the driveway. What has crossed my mind is how unsafe this chain is. It had no reflectors or flags, just rusty raw steel. I said to myself that looks dangerous and maybe some kid on a bicycle will run into it. But I never took action. I should have gone to the school and complained. On late Superbowl Sunday morning, while I was cruising in the canyons on my Guzzi, a neighbor from around the corner named Tim Allen tried to ride straight down my road and up the driveway. But the chain stopped him dead. I imagine his family will try to sue the school, but I feel everyone who saw the chain and did nothing bears some of the responsibility. It was an accident waiting to happen I don't expect everyone to agree with that. In my mind most of the responsiblity fall on the rider, but I just wanted to post that incase there is a hazard in your neighborhood that you have considered complaining about, or doing something about, but didn't want to be a nuisance over or were just too damn lazy. I know there are some intersections around here without stop signs... If you are inclined, please just get out there an do it. If not, I am not surprised. Nobody around here including myself did anything until it was too late. Today there is a brand new yellow chain with reflector hanging on it. One of my favorite Simpsons episodes was where Homer goes around putting safety signs up everywhere. You can definately go too far, but I know that I sure regret going nowhere and having done nothing. Here is a link to a news story on Tim Allen's death, RIP brother rider http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/2...743-bn05id.html A neighbor said this Tim Allen was known for his community service whether it be picking up trash in the neighborhood or raising money for the fourth of July fireworks.

Make sure when testing for starter you test with kickstand up, neutral light on, and clutch in. Given that the starter still fails, look to the common point for the Starter and the ECU, which if I figure right, seems to be the run switch. Make sure it is on Or maybe bypass it. Also, there is a five way connector under the gas tank leading to the run switch that could be bad.

The 1200S is a nice improvement on the Breva, but I think Piaggiao is making the right decision, If they have something else to offer, like a Griso Quattro Valvole. But what we really NEED is an MGS01 styled bike It would also be nice if we could approach BMW performance Guzzi is nearly ten years behind BMW, but the Quattro Valvole 1200 could narrow that gap.

The most obvious thing to check is whether or not your headlight works or not. If it does not, you probably have relay troubles. If the headlight works, than the Tach SHOULD be getting power, but you might check at the tach. A temporary ground may help troubleshoot. I am not sure how to troubleshoot the signal wire from the ECU. I think there is a one way sealed connector for the signal wire, under the gas tank that might need the connection checked. See Carl's diagram http://www.thisoldtractor.com/guzzi007/sch...9_V11_sport.gif EDIT Doh! after seeing Gary's post below, I went back and and actually read the first post, and it is pretty reasonable to assume the ECU is getting power and ground, so disregard my post above. Thanks Gary, that is good to know about the springs!

Here is a list that I started: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...88&hl=sachs I think the Wilbers are about the best deal, but there are other good deals available. Prices I posted there are now outdated... FWIW I checked with Lindemann Engineering about getting a WP, and unfortunately they don't make one for our bike. Lindemann will sell you an Ohlins or a Penske.

Yes! My guess is that the wheels were made precisely enough, but the spacers were not consistently 113mm. My OEM spacer was about 112.5mm. Your explanation of tides was spot on Knowing that you have a 113mm spacer should be good enough. Improperly seated bearings may be a more threatening variable than the wheel's consistent precision. But the greatest variability known to date seems to be in, as you have suggested, the spacers. Here is some silly stuff --unknown -

The Wilbers that http://www.guzzitech.com sells are in some ways better than the Ohlins, but much cheaper. But be sure to talk to Todd Eagan as he is working on some other promising shock options. He posted about them on the socal guzzi discussion board, here: http://socal-guzzi.com/PHPBB/viewtopic.php...ghlight=wilbers Sometimes you can find Aprillia and Ducati Showas for sale cheap on eBay, etc. Mike Stewart gave Aprillia Showas a try on his V11sport. See here http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...59&hl=showa

I think you and I were the only ones who even noticed that perp beating post. These guys would have gone on and on about guns and knives anyway. The grenade was an interesting twist. Perhaps we need balance to this thread: WARNINGdo not look at or click on this link http://www.officerjellynutz.com/mp3s/14%20...20Brutality.mp3F the police Never mind that link, the forum auto-censor prohibited the F word, You could replace the @#!#$# part of the link with correct F word but it is easier to just try this link and go to song 14, or better yet, try them all. http://www.officerjellynutz.com/mp3s.html -

According to Pete in post #67, http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...=5537&st=65 I don't think we ever arrived on a consensus that wheels are made with consistent precision. But when JRT ran off a few spacers he specified the length to 113.04mm http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...=5711&hl=mm But it may be best to just measure it. Pete writes in post #80 of http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...=5537&st=79 Sorry, about boring up the thread with technical stuff. I have no banter or other silly remarks to add to this thread at this time. -

Sorry at first glance I thought she had double Ds Does it matter? Single D is excellent, Double D is just more of excellent, for when you are beddin' down for the night. For some, the V is most important.
