...and gravel flying at your forks at 100MPH I got the other front fender, that in my opinion is better looking, but the protection the RSV fender provides is well worth the sacrifice of a very minor aesthetic difference.

Idea to lower battery load when starting up in Winter
dlaing replied to Bbennett's topic in Technical Topics
I have no idea. Did I give the impression that I was more scared of the blind than the homicidal? I just believe there are more blind than homicidal, so I have greater concern and fear of not being seen, than of people going after me maliciously. I suppose you could assume that most of those who cut you off are malicious killers. I assume they don't see. Of course there are the type that cut me off out of stupidity, to the point that I have to put the brakes on softly to avoid hitting them, and those may fall into the category of those who see, but pull out anyhow. But they don't endanger me like the vision impaired drivers cutting me off, where the only chance of survival is evasion, and not necessarilly braking. I just don't understand your statement about relying on blind drivers. I think it is a semantic inquirie, not one about the safety of your riding. I don't rely on negative things, I rely on positive things. But I rely on the predictability of negative things. There is a difference. I agree, but I think you could have phrased it better earlier. Where is Nogbad, our grammar policeman? EDIT note the first part of this post, I wrote before reading your last reply. Thanks for the clarification. -

RE-PHRASING THE QUESTION Do you mean you rely on assuming the other person might be blind? -

I believe they often DO NOT see you, true some just ignore me, but I am more scared of the ones that do not see me. What do you mean about relying on the other person being blind? I rely on the other person being sighted, otherwise I would not be out there. But when I see someone in a position to cut me off, I assume there is good chance they won't see me. -

The pun came out all wrong. I would only have intentions to move the thread, not delete it. I meant that political threads delete the ignorance, or so I would hope. Moving the political content of the thread would allow the conversation to continue. My apologies for writing something that obviously read differently than I intended.

All the V11 Spine six speeds have forks that are 54mm at the triple clamps and 43mm at the steel tube. I believe there are a few models of 43mm Ohlins. Not sure exactly what fits, but if the forks are from another V11SpineFrameSixSpeed they will fit, unless somebody did something non-OEM.

That will do the trick and save you 55W and not the measily 10W that I would apparently be saving running in serial -
No, I was able to eliminate it with TuneBoy, after tuning about three or four map revisions. TuneBoy can control ignition timing. But your rant on K&N Filters effected me, and I put my airbox lid back on to help keep dirt out of my BMC filter. I then had to undo my mapping and go back to the equivalent of a stock ECU with the PCIII map for a mistral muffler over-layed. I lost a bit of power, but gained an extended service period on the air filter, and maybe longer engine life. There is no pinging now, but fuel consumption is 30MPG commuting 7 miles, and about 35MPG hanging out with DanDiego. I can hit 40MPG on the freeway if I get a slight tail wind. I think I lost about 1MPG when I put the airbox lid back on. I suspect it is running a bit rich. I bought a Wide Band O2 sensor many months ago, but have procrastinated on installing it. I should just do it, and get it tuned right! By the way, I see Power Commander has a cool new tool http://socal-guzzi.com/PHPBB/viewtopic.php?t=659 If link is broken, just go to http://socal-guzzi.com/PHPBB/ and look for PCIII LCD

Good points, especially the last one. If I was a real moderator instead of a proletariat drone spaminator, I would move the last few posts.

Pay little attention to the label weight rating when comparing across brands. Check out this web page (Ratchet has previously recommended Verdone's website) http://www.peterverdonedesigns.com/lowspeed.htm Maybe you will see your 7.5W oil listed there, and will be able to compare it to others. I don't see the Golden Spectro 125/150 but they list the wider temperature range 85/150. You can get a comparison of the 125/150, the 85/150 and the other Golden Spectos here: http://www.spectro-oils.com/gsdata.htm#gsfork They have even thinner oils, perhaps too thin.

Guzzi burnout video

There are now six videos for New Years DAY http://socal-guzzi.com/PHPBB/viewtopic.php?t=636 I only saw three so far...very nice, I think I may be in one of them -
I can't speak for others, but some of my pinging has been muffler induced, some open airbox, and some TPS setting. I have had trouble getting consistent TPS readings. YMMV, but I have had less pinging since my last TPS adjustment, but worse fuel consumption. What impresses me is the bikes that have no pinging that average better than 40MPG (US) It gives me hope that I could have the same, maybe after the engine breaks in at about 50,000 miles Oil consumption has also boggled my mind. I was consuming a fair amount of oil, and then it got better and there was almost no consumption for two oil changes, but now I am consuming oil again...same oil, same oil filter, and the weather is colder, which I thought would reduce consumption. One factor that seems to increase the oil consumption is spending alot of time above 5000 RPM....probably need a windage plate.

Idea to lower battery load when starting up in Winter

Drat! I hope you are wrong. Although I suppose the GM daytime running brightness is not bad. The 5W bulb runs whenever the ignition is on. Upping it to halogen will make it brighter, and upping it to 10W halogen, brighter still. We are still on subject. It is an excellent "idea to lower battery load when starting up in winter". If we started discussing how the Chicago Bears are going to beat the Colts , then we would be off subject -
Excessive rebound dampin' can cause the suspension to "pack" and thus become harsh. In addition to damping having an effect on felt resistance, stiction and spring rate also have an effect. But bottoming has the worst effect on felt resistance to a jolt High speed compression damping is most notorious for passing the jolt. But too little high speed compression damping is bad for reasons that I don't fully understand.

The high and low beam in series together might draw about 30W and reduce the heat at the filaments, which will extend bulb life. 25Watts saved is a good thing if one is planning to add accessories. Warm yellow is a good thing if it is bright enough. I really don't know if it will be bright enough I am hoping that the intensity for oncoming traffic will be somewhere between a low beam and a high beam, but expect it to be pretty close to the low beam. If it falls short of the low beam intensity, I may get a 10W halogen bulb to replace the 5W incandescant parking light, (and then only save about 20W in day mode and use 5W more at night) or I may just get a more intense bulb like a Philips Vision Plus 50(offroad use only in USA, with no blue tint) or a PHILIPS/ NARVA Range Power (of dubious legal status but no blue tint) or a Sylvania Silverstar (DOT approved, but tinted blue, which may be good for safety, but not my taste) or an Osram Silverstar (no blue tint, but not DOT approved and difficult to find in USA). -
Yah, damn Aprilia retards were so stupid they put phreakin' Ohlins on a two wheeled tractor. What a waste. You should sell your Ohlins and put some shocks off a Ural in place of the Ohlins

But the Hawker is the most virtually identical to the OEM Spark 500 The only difference on the outside is the color and the labels. Unless we are comparing claimed CCA and AH and vibration resistance, the Hawker Odyssey is identical to the OEM. From what I can tell, the Spark500 is identical to the Hawker Genesis which does not not have the abuse resistance of the Hawker Odyssey....but yah, the labels are different... But no doubt, $76 shipped is a good deal. Hawker Odyssey PC545 $69.99 ++ (which came to over $80 for me.) http://www.portablepower.com/items/batteri.../SL141/37L141S5

The Hawker is identical in shape and size to the Spark500 that my bike came with when new. Length: 6 7/8" Width: 3 1/4" Height: 5 1/8" 12 Ah @ 10hr rate 185 CCA 545 Cranking Amps for 5 Seconds It is also identical in size and polarity to the: Power Source WP13-12NE, Universal UB13-12NE ( Yuasa YTX15L-BS ) Length 6.88 in., Width 3.25 in., Height 5.06 in., For all you politically correct right wing death to commies types, the UB13-12NE is made in Commie nose thumbing, Taiwan, and is Scura black instead of tasteless orange Interestingly all of those batteries have higher CLAIMED CCA and AH than the Hawker.

Heh! Apparently it is possible to make silk purses out of sow's ears http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/...,881621,00.html But making sow's ears out of silk purses has elluded scientists

Hackster is trying to say that you must do it roughly as he does it, or you are an ass. The V11 is already allegedly putting out about 90HP at the crank. 100HP should be easily done. Getting 100HP at the rear wheel would be a greater challenge. You might need to put a BMW R1200 crank and jugs on it to do that. And you want me to sit by and not disagree with his narrow vision of how one should treat their beloved Guzzi?
-
It should be about 14.4V immediately after fully charging it. After it sits overnight it should drop down and approach the 12.8V. It does sound like the "immobilizer" may be sucking the life out of it. Also check to see if current is flowing across the ECU fuse. When I pull the ECU fuse with ignition off, I get about 10V measuring across the fuse terminals. This results in the battery slowly discharging. After about a week it needs recharging....If I did not pull the fuse.
-
I think it is already a silk purse, even when it was all OEM. The Sachs shock is the next thing that will be leaving the bike. Will that increase the power to weight ratio? Probably not. But the shock that replaces it will make it an even finer silk purse, regardless. There are many ways to improve the bike, including making it lighter. If all I wanted was lighter and faster, yah, I would buy something else. But Guzzis have what YZF-R1s don't. And no money in the world can make an R1 equal to a Guzzi. I though you understood that. I'd love to have 100HP at the crank. 160HP is overkill for my needs. I would also love if the bike weighed 400lbs, but if I could shed just 40 from it, that would be a very good thing. The Guzzi is not about keeping up with the Joneses. It is about keeping up with your dreams.
