To split hairs, only about half of the $300 is locked to the ECU. As Todd suggested, the 15Ms are very reliable. I would be upset if my ECU died and I lost both the ECU and the key. I wonder if the 15M will be more resilient to software than the Aprillia and Triumph ECUs My PC is 99% spy and virus free, has built in serial, and is not running XP, so I am pretty confident that I won't 'retart' my ECU. You can always tote your ECU to your next bike...although I suppose there are warranty issues and future compatibility issues. But, I am sure it is easier to swap PCIIIs around as I have seen Todd do it in a parking lot in seconds. And FWIW, my stock bike benefitted from the PCIII after a dealer service. And benefitted even more, after I loosened the valves. Concerning the PCIII vs. Tuneboy at altitude, I think the difference is that the PCIII changes the percentage after the algorithm or whatever is modified by the air pressure sensor, while the tune boy modifies it before the air pressure sensor makes the correction. I suppose Wayne would know for sure. Despite my disagreements, Great Post Jeff in Ohio! Ohio could use you to overhaul their voting machines, as you are obviously honest and logical. I guess I should go back and find the Aprillia post about someone knocking out their ECU. Could they restore it?

I read some of the links on the Aprillia board, and found even better stuff on a Triumph board, let me find the link... edit Here it is http://www.t595.net/messageboard/forum.asp?forum=15 It shows some of the real world problems that one might experience. I am not sure if the trouble factor is higher or lower than a PCIII. The PCIII is pretty simple to use for me, but as you know Todd, I have sent you questions that you have promptly and accurately answered. As for the tuning boy, I noted some problems: 1 keys...fixed easily 2 which serial port to select...fixed, apparently easily 3 Timeouts when loadin map....it seems like there are different solutions to this...everybody was happy, except maybe number 5. 4 Somebody wrote about a clunk...no aswer yet, but I am pretty sure it is the noise of the fuel pump, as described in the tuneboy faq. 5 Mark Green posted in September, and gave no indication that he got it working...he only posted once... 6 many of the posts praised the product. 7 tuneboy helped someone go closed loop 8 tuneboy helped some discover their ecu was bad. 9 compatibility mode needed to be set 10 tuneboy vs PCIII thread opinion is in favor of tuneboy 11 some of the tunes were somehow out of the range of the editor....Wayne had a workaround I could go on. It does appear to be more complex than the PCIII, but granted as it has more features. The Aprillia site seemed to have a less constructive, more opinionated tone in the links that were posted earlier here. I used the Aprillia site's search engine and found feedback and question more in line with the Triumph's site. So are the first Guzzi customers going to be guinea pigs? I don't think it will be too bad. The forums on tuneboys and PCIIIs are nothing like the forums on most software applications. It sounds like Wayne does excellent work. If I did not have a PCIII, I would consider one.

I said no such thing And at your suggestion, I re-read this whole post and amazed myself that I don't think I missed a thang. Since I re-read everything, want me to re-hash it for you? People are looking for the best solutions for their fueling and igniting needs. 1 Tex is happy with his carbureted Solex 2 Some people not only want mapping, but diagnostics. 3 Cliffs ECU appears to be the worst deal Which is a shame after the great effort he made. But perhaps he can go open source and put that tuning boy out of business like Linux did to Microsuck 4 Tuning Boy seems to do everything the software at FBF does for less money. 5 Tuning Boy seems to do everything the PCIII currently does, and more, for less. So Todd, you better message this guy offboard and cut a deal, forget about the No Money Down guarantee. I am suprised that you guys are conflicting. Tuning Boy ain't no obsolete chip that simply enrichens the mixture, it diagnosis the computer and adjusts the maps where the maps are meant to be adjusted. It does it all without an added box under the seat. But I would miss the buttons on the PCIII. Of course it took the guy five years to make a product for MY BIKE, while PCs were there within a year. Can Tuning Boy adjust to low sales, High R&D market as fast as PowerCommander? Will PowerCommander lock down the TuningLink so that only PCIIIs can benefit? Stay Tuned! PS great post JuhaV. Your point leads me to speculate whether Cliff's ECU may still have fire under the belly if the Closed loop can be better executed than on the Boxxer Beemers.

What is the Axeone service tool. Is that included in the kit? Also, I think you should register the domain www.tuningboy.net before someone else does. Although it is nice that you remind us that you are in Oz. Too bad someone else has the .com name.

That product looks like it would be more accurate than a K&N monitor. I did not know about the wiedband commander, until Todd mentioned it yesterday. The Wideband Commander which looks like it would be worth the extra money. Alternately, could one simply just buy a wide band oxygen sensor and hook up a voltmeter to it? If so, how much do they cost? Another option would be to buy the wideband commander and rent it out for $50 a pop, plus shipping, to trusted members of our community...

http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...ype=post&id=164 unless the php link gets busted you can follow the above link link to a picture of my R90S fairing, Rest in Peace. fiberglass was from airtech streamlining and the bubble was from zero gravity. I mounted it merely by holding it in tension against the headlight bezel(chrome part) with two brackets going to the turn signal mounts. Simple solution with the compromise being that it aimed down with the headlight's angle. Of course if you only ride in daylight, aim it up!

Dang Jaap! 90 HP! I may go to the Pods after all. What do the three lines on the dyno graph indicate. Stock, Modified, and Modified plus PCIII??? Note that you guys do have different mufflers...Mistrals and M4s, but I sure the power is pretty similar. I have got to get me one of those Stucchi crossovers!

QUOTE(dlaing @ Jan 3 2005, 12:24 PM) His pricing plan took a little reading to understand. It would help if he did not have a high contrast image behind the text. He sells a kit that has one key for one bike for $310, about the price of a PCIIIUSB... and four bikes 640 (160 per bike) Anybody in So-Cal want to split expenses? Or would that be a violation of the software license???? Todd said "Doesn't help a Tuning Link operator much... and the end user is pretty helpless without them." No, I think it does help the operator. He can sell an ECU tuning for $150 plus dyno time. With the PCIII you are looking at $300+ plus dyno time. I am not sure how the keys work. If they have to stock a key for every model that would not be ideal. The same would hold true with the PCIII, but the keys are smaller, I assume, and cheaper, so less overhead for stocking parts....now if the dyno dude could download a key, that would be motivating feature, but probably hackable. But point taken about these products not being worth much without a map. So somebody has to be the guinea pig for the first generic maps. I know you, Todd, have gone through great efforts to provide our community with maps and pushed Dyna to make models for the 16 series...But I suspect maps will follow shortly. As for true custom maps, it does look like the tuning link for PCIII has the edge in price, but does that offset the $150 vs $300? And I would not be satisfied with just a key and no software, so I would have to buy the kit, so I would be looking at $300 vs. $300 plus increased dyno time dollars for the tuning boy (did I mention the name 'boy' is not pollitically correct?!? Kinda like White Power shock absorbers...) QUOTE(dlaing again) Dynojet is now finalizing a Timing Module plug-in for PCIIIusb.. But it is correct until we can buy it. And don't forget, some of us are gonna fry are ECUs and come running to you for the superior upgrade. Todd again "Ok, David, so you'll be in line when it arrives then? All of this work and push of late to develop these things warrants litte-to-no sales for these with marques like Guzzi. Why/how are you going to fry an ECU? Hasn't happened on any that I've known of, and they can be found regularly on eBay for about $100 ($400~ish new)." yah, I wish Tuning Boy came along alot sooner, before I bought my PCIII....Used ECUs for $100! OK sorry Cliff, the only advantage I see now with the My15Mis the closed loop capability...drat! We all appreciate the effort you have made. Maybe you could program the ECU to play iTunes, or maybe Tuning Boy already does. Todd again"Also David, you might be forgetting that 02-sensored bikes run a VERY limited portion of the map (low throttle settings) in closed loop. All else is still open loop." Yah, I am not a big proponent of closed loop, but I imagine it could help fuel efficieny when touring the super slabs, not something I enjoy. Or is steady 80MPH out of the range of the closed loop? That would be kind of silly. Perhaps the governments don't expect us to go that fast.
-
But seriously, Cliff, the bikes without closed loop do have the fittings in the headers of lamda sensors, and that is an upgrade that nobody but you would probably offer. But now you might have to figure out how to modify not only the fuel map but also the target map that RacerX and WMcDonald are conflicting over. Of course you may have already figured that out??? And don't forget, some of us are gonna fry are ECUs and come running to you for the superior upgrade.

How about a 100,000 Volt ignition booster and a closed loop bio feedback feature that senses when you are too fat and sends you a jolt!

The Maxima Maxum is also a true synthetic made from(with???) pharmaceutical grade esters. My dealer was putting in the semi synthetic for me and the stuff seemed to last and I was not burning oil. I started doing oil changes myself. I tried Mobile 1 automotive and found that the engine was noisier than before the oil change. 1000 miles later I went back to the dealer for the synthetic blend, it ran quietly again. the next oil change I tried Motul 5100 15w50 ester based synthetic for motorcycles. The bike ran quietly, but I started consuming oil, about a liter every 1500miles!!! I figured that my bike was just getting old, but then I went back to the Maxum 20W50 semi-synthetic and it stopped consuming oil, barely a drop on the stick after ~2000 miles. I recently added about 8 ounces to bring it up to the top of the stick. Could the difference between 15W50 and 20W50 make such a huge difference? I don't know. But there is a big difference between the two oils. Both claim to be Ester based, but one is superior for my needs. And the Mobile 1 automotive is out of the question for me.... Your mileage will vary. You can checkout the Maxima oil line here: http://www.maximausa.com/products/4stroke/...4synthblend.asp They give flash point and viscosity ratings, so you can compare to Amsoil and Agip or what have you. I still think that since we have a dry clutch and no catalytic convertor, the ideal oil would be an Ester based Automotive oil with friction modifiers and a high concentration of zinc additive. Someone posted that they used mobile one and added a zinc additive. I am going to move to Maxum synthetic Extra next, but the data on it indicates it will have lower viscosity at operating temperatures...and it costs a lot more...But it may last longer and will save my engine with cold startups...not a big problem in san diego
-
Excellent decision! I think we were all sad to hear that you were considering selling the LeMans.
-
There is an Amsoil dealer in Abbotsford, and probably more dealers near you. http://www.lubedealer.com/hiebert/ I would not limit myself to Agip as any full synthetic motorcycle oil should do the trick. And arguably other oils, too. I think Guzzitech is an Amsoil dealer. I like Maxum oil myself. http://www.maximausa.com/ You can get it here: Motovan Motosport Corporation Customer Service T: (800) 663-0161 F: (604) 276-0651 2060 Van Dyke Place Richmond, British Colulmbia Canada V6V 1X9 www.motovan.com contact@motovan.com

Do you think we should warn TX' mother in law?

Pretty strange. It would drive me nuts if I did not know what caused an accident. My last accident, I had been riding from about 7AM till about 1-3PM, yes I stopped for breaks, but I still had not eaten lunch and was getting hungry. I was setting up very early for a turn, planning on taking it fairly quickly, noticining the guard rail up ahead, I figured I should take it more moderately, so I grabbed a little front brake, still 100 feet from the turn, I was not panicing, but I grabbed more front brake than I should have. The front wheel locked, I went down and broke ribs and shoulder. I think what caused it was the bad judgement of braking while not having my weight centered, (but I had done this a thousand times) but more importantly the fatigue in my wrist, made me lose control of smooth easy braking. Kind of like when you jump into a car with power brakes. I suppose it is possible that your brake hand had a spasm, or that following the vertigo theory, you momentarily blacked out. You probably have no history of spasms, fainting, epillepsy or anything similar, but as we get older, sh^te happens. You remember the car you were about to stay clear of, and you remember going down, so it sure seems like you were conscious. Any chance the sub-conscious concern of someone opening the car door, caused your hand to close on the brake? Sorry to ask the question if it offends you, I am certainly NOT a doctor, and I am not trying to call you a spaz to save the impecible Guzzi name Just try to help a brother get to the truth ..maybe you were immitating this guy
-
I don't know what caused this accident, but it seems to me that at 100KPH it was not the spring sag or the damping setting. I would think that something more serious must have happened. Are the tires deformed? Did you feel speed wobble? Could the brakes have locked? The rear hydraulics can burn on the exhaust if not clipped in and if the pistons are sticking the fluid can heat and lock. But you don't appear to have one long skid. Could the steering damper have locked up??? Could your engine have locked up? I am no expert, but your skid marks seem to indicate that you were traveling faster than 100KPH. Maybe I am wrong, but that hill looks kind of steep. When you changed lane position were you doing it quickly, like you were feeling out the countersteering or scrubbing the tires?

Ouch! Glad to hear the damage is minor, painful as it is...
-
I believe Jason made his own because he wanted it to be shorter, not just because his original was broken. But the MPH one does look nice. It would be nice if you could adjust the length on it a notch or two.

We need more nudity and naughty behavior I would suggest a freespeech zone here, but I know I don't to make enemies with you all

For the ultimate solution checkout Skeeve's postMystery solved!, spring-sprang-sprung http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4206&hl= In short the guzzi factory mixed up the fast idle return spring with the seat latch return spring. Way to go Skeeve!
-
We are not worthy! I just rushed out to the garage at 3AM and ten minutes later, it is functioning perfectly!!! Thank You! I could not stand the idea of a rusty pen spring on the the fast idle. It is amazing, the seat latch spring now seats perfectly and fits over the cable end lug, and the fast idle sits idle.

PS If only we could talk politics, or be more grossly politically (in)correct...but there are better places for that, you just can't post pictures at http://lists.topica.com/lists/MGNOC-SW/read http://p209.ezboard.com/btherollingcrowmotorcycleclub could also be a great site, and I think you can post pictures there. I just have trouble following the topic flow...But Captain Enzo is the Bomb. It is nice that Jaap keeps it loose goose related.

Sorry, TX' picture is suitable for over the fireplace, (or in my significant other's opininon, in the garage) while the one I posted belongs on the backdoor of the bathroom.(or in my significant other's opininon, in the trash) If only they would put that Vrod engine in a Buell..or maybe not. There are some other great pictures on that site, check it out!
