I ended up with a seven inch header being optimum. Maybe for a white girl This formula from one of the other links that Emry provided seems to work better: Length (in inches) = (CID x 1900) รท (rpm x pri.OD2) What is our headers OD? Each cylinder is 32.452 CID

I prefer a no crossover design because if you are not concerned about legal decibels, you can probably get a cleaner running bike if the left and right exhaust flows do not interfere with each other. However, it may be difficult to place a pair of supertrapps under the transmission in such a way that they do not reduce ground clearance. And Al, you may be right about the weight. I am not sure how much Supertrapps weigh, and the weight added from welding could be significant, otherwise it is one less muffler, which could be lighter. I hope he plans to exit the one muffler on the left side because it can be closer to the tire. Captain, which Supertrapps are you thinking of?

(Not that you are stupid, au contraire mon frere) But I think the pistons stick because of a build up of crud where the pistons meet the seals. Years ago, I posted how my dealer cured the drag by lubing aroung the pistons. This however only lasted a few months and the brake pads still wore out prematurely. The last time I cleaned the pistons they retracted nicely and the slightly noticeable friction completely disappeared. I just hope it lasts. FWIW I don't think these pistons are protected by a dust guard. The seal just keeps the brake fluid in.

If you compare the power curves of the stock crossover, compared to the stucchi and fbf crossovers, the stock is not so well thought out in that it has a big hole just above 4000RPM. Granted it is quieter, and it is an improvement on crossover used on the V1100Sports. Whatever Captain's results are, is probably a luck of the draw. He could get more or less power anywhere along the RPMs. Choosing one muffler over two is more likely to boost Low RPM power, as he suggested. I suspect he may lose a little power elsewhere, but he'll probably still have more peak power than a Jackal and alot more peak power than a Quota, and he will have one of the lightest exhaust systems available on any V11. But because the change is so dramatic, I think he should get the bike to a tuning link for a custom map. My Quat-D gained almost 4HP and air to fuel ratios as bad as 18:1 were corrected, after the tuning link.

So, I was really enjoying the Quat-D muffler but I was wanting a little more peak power. After the muffler cracked and I had it fixed by welding and reinforcing I traded it for a pair of Mistrals. Here is how the bike looks of the guy I traded the muffler to. Bellissimo!

I just got a test relay from Dan. The relay has almost identical dimensions to the Bosch relay. It is only available in black but it would look great powder coated red! The 2003 increased the compression ratio, so whatever they did with the ECU and the oil cooling probably fixed it. Of course any bike that is properly set up will not ping.

The 00-01 v11's, and 00-03 jackle/stone/ev's have the same exact hardware. The difference is in the map that comes preloaded, which is a map modifed for a completely stock bike (I presume a US model). You should order the one for the 00-01 V11S and download the appropriate map from Power Commander's website or contact www.guzzitech.com where you can download many more maps, get more great advice, or even order a PCIII PS Ray, What type of mods do you have on your bike? If any...

Excellent! In shot one the pipes look perfect. In shots two and three it shows how up and out it points, which I am not sure if I like. You probably don't want to leave it out in the rain with the muffler pointing up like that. But it only drizzles in Seattle, and the crossover is SS.

Why would the pressure regulator suddenly die after 80 miles? Could be that when tested by the dealer, the petcock was shutting. Sorry, I know it is water under the bridge now, but I think I may buy a manual petcock just to avoid this potential problem.

As an experiment, buy a six pack of beer in cans. You drink one and let Motomonster drink one. Cut off the bottom of cans. Drink more beer. Clamp the beer cans to the ends of the crossover. Fire up the engine. Drink more beer. Does it still sound good? If yes, your problem is solved, just spray paint the beer cans, dynotune the bike, and you will be all set. If no, try drinking Redbull, the stuff that gives you wings. It is probably a better size, and it is safer to ride after a redbull than after a beer. If the aesthetics bug you, atleast you know how big to make the restrictor opening. I think anything bigger than an inch is gonna be too loud. If you wanna go the glass pack route. Take some aluminum perforated sheet metal available at the mega hardware store or the Home Heating and Air Conditioning Store, bend it around the crossover end pipes and clamp it down so it forms a pipe, wrap it with fiberglass wool, and then get creative about how you wrap the wool. You could use sheet metal or muffler tape, or just wire and aluminum foil and then carbon fiber with fiberglass resin. But I still think you need a restrictor to give you some back pressure.

You know it might just work. Just add a restrictor about the size of the stock mufflers out let, dyno-tune, and you may be good to go. The stock crossover weighs a lot lesss than the Quat-D. I have run my engine with just the crossover, and it sounds AWESOME except for the popping when you let off the throttle. You might want to have the restrictor aim the air flow away from your legs. I am liking this idea!

The muffler does not really get in the way, but it makes the tranny oil change a little messy you just let it drip over the muffler. No big deal and plenty of wrench access. I am not an expert but here are some attempts to answer(ie. I could be full of Sh^t) " I was wondering about the Furia deal. " The Furia muffler will not fit....hearsay. "Also, (and this is a very silly question) in what way is this muffler different from a crossover?" This muffles the sound more and turns two intakes into one out take. A crossover brings the Left and Right air flows partially together to more efficiently share the two mufflers. "Is a crossover simply an expansion chamber?" No, but your mind is. The stock crossover allows for some expansion and also muffles the sound a little. The Stucchi and FBF crossovers do neither and work better. "What is its purpose?" Increase power and possible weaken power around 4000rpms to piss us off. "And why do performance crossovers look like pipes with no expansion? I don't understand the purpose of them." I don't understand the purpose of expansion before the end of the tunnel. I imagine it to be like two lanes of traffic merging out into six lanes for 1/4 mile and then merging back to two lanes....the traffic is not going to flow any faster. The Stucchi crossover merges 2 two lanes into a four lane and back into two 2 lanes so that when the traffic is more busy on one freeway it can flow to the other. The Stock crossover merges 2 two lanes into a six lanes (ie expansion) and back into two 2 lanes so that when the traffic is more busy on one freeway it can flow to the other, but the six lanes may produce more chaos than control. The FBF crossover probably relies more on mutual air pressure assistance rather than direct flow share, if you know what I mean? In any case the FBF does not follow the traffic analogy as well as the Stucchi. " Is the Furia muffler just an empty box that provides the exhaust with some back pressure?" It is not empty, but presumably a tuned labyrinth, possibly with sound damping material such as stainless steel wool embedded in perforated walls. Oh, my last complaint about the Quat-D muffler is that I think I lost about one or two mpg.

Is it a $1000 now? I really should not have traded it! Anyway, if you want to probe the emissions on each cylinder there are tapped inlets in each header for that, which give better readings than probing the mufflers. A dual outlet would have made me happier with the product. There is some guy who posted on the list that he is a machinist and can make just about anything. One off mufflers, however requires someone with the right tools.

Hmmm, so even with the 20A fuse it still got to a point of failure. Perhaps it is a good idea to keep it fused at 15A. Still on post 2000 bikes, it may make sense to add an additional relay to keep the current on a more direct path. And 2000 models could use other improvements with the relay being more of the issue.

Also there is some oxidation on the muffler surface so, I would ceramic coat the muffler and the headers to match. Here is a movie with sound of the muffler. Quicktime required... http://www.scripps.edu/~dlaing/v11s/quatd.mov The sound does not compare to reality.

It cracked at the welds where the pipes met the body of the muffler. I took it to a welder who added additional supports and sealed the cracks, then I sold it, so I may never know if it was a repeating problem. The welder thought the original welds were done too hot or not hot enough(can't remember). He charged me $80 for the repair. I think with the better welds and added brackets it should hold it fine for the current owner. FWIW my stock crossover also has cracking at the welds, but only on the right side. Our bikes are murder on crossovers, I guess it is the vibration. Also, when I had my last rear tire put on, the non guzzi dealer. supported the bike by the muffler, SOBs. I did not notice the cracking till after that. Some things that I loved were the sound, the possibility of extra large luggage, the fact that if I crashed, the muffler would not likely be damaged, and the way it moved the center of gravity down and forward. I did not like the cracking, nor the limitation to peak power. FWIW, I still saw over 130MPH Veglia mph and it had a lot more midrange than stock. The $800 price is a little high....the price may be higher now... If I went that route again, I would offer $1000 to someone who could cut bend and weld together the same concept, but with higher flow and less crossover action, ie more of a two into two than a two into one.
