  1. Al, Are you blowing a 5 amp fuse from the main fuse block when using the stock horn wires? I ask because I was under the impression that the horn was fused by the 15amp lighting fuse. Does the Lemans have a different wiring diagram than what is included in the 2000 workshop manual? Docc, Which 7.5A fuse are you talking about?
  2. "Hunters are powered by two 750 cc Moto Guzzi motorcycle engines, though TRW technicians say the Army is trying to adapt a small Mercedes-Benz diesel motor to eliminate having to fuel with gasoline." Too bad. then it won't be as effective for kamikaze missions. Speaking of which, how difficult would it be to convert our engines to diesels?
  3. Dry weight 180Kg, not bad. Excellent torque to weight ratio. Especially if you shed the frame, wheels, tranny, etc.
  4. I had a friend who could never get his Norton's clip ons tight enough. He would get it tight, take off, and then a few hours later he would have to reallign and tighten back up. These bars put alot of torque on where they clamp. My fear is that I'll hit a pot hole and end up with one of the bars shifting. I'll be sure to give these bars a full military press which for my muscle strength is about 30 lbs. But seriously I will be cautious with these. This product http://www.cliponrisers.com/ uses "Screw Grab Friction Drops" to ensure that the bars do not move. If I start experience shifting, I will give the drops a try. Apparently Sears sells a similar product called "Craftsman Grip Doctor" Has anyone tried the SUNrisers? They look like a great idea, too. My other top choices were the Two Brothers Racing bars and the Guzzi Swan Neck bars.
  5. How do the Spiegler and MGCycle kits work? Do you tell them the dimensions and fitting types or do you cut and crimp your own? Would they understand a request like simply 3.25 inches longer than stock or do they need exact measurements? Do both offer double line front brake lines as opposed to a Y or T split line?
  6. I just ordered the kit. Thanks for word on the product! I don't think the brake lines come with this kit. But I guess they will fabricate the cables to your specifications, and give you 10% off for being a guinea pig. I was going to go the traditional handlbar route, but did not want to get locked into one positon. These will give me flexibility. I have a Corbin seat, which puts me way back so, I just hope the bars are not too far forward. My other concern is vibration. The V11Sport bars carry more vibration than the Le Mans bars because of the tuning fork like extension. I hope that this is not the case with these bars which will extend even more. A blurb on their website suggests you get less vibration with more extension....we shall see.
  7. That reminds me, that the fact that the starter relay's terminal going to the lighting, horn, etc. is underated, should really get people motivated to fix it. Right? I still don't have a fix. I will probably just put a larger relay in its place.
  8. You'll feel better when you get your bike back on the road. Just to make you feel better, I could not ride today because of San Diego's fires. I had set aside the day to go and put the stock pipes back on and go for a ride...but lo and behold, sh^t happens. On a more important note.... Best wishes and prayers to V11Sport owner Jim Phillips who probably lost 2 cats, his house, and his Guzzi in today's fire. It is truely a nightmare here for many people. I am one of the lucky ones, sitting at home, trying to conserve water and electricity, windows closed, with irritated eyes and a headache from all the smoke
  9. Should we take this discussion to the SouthWest List? http://www.topica.com/lists/MGNOC-SW/read You don't have to live in the south west to participate. You just have to have an OPINION (but even NON-Opinions will do.) Right now the politics have leveled off, but throw in a subjectline like "Gun Control Makes ME Want To KILL Someone" or "I told you the War was a mistake" and watch the fun begin. Good bunch of guys, opinion aside.
  10. Eureka! I can replace the horns with windshield washer fluid squirters, loaded with ammonia. It would also double as a face shield cleaner. PS I highly recommend the movie "Bowling for Columbine" It gave me a whole new understanding on guns and America.
  11. If it boils down to a matter of using a gun or calling the dog warden, I guess I'll go the dog warden route. Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately either decision results in the dog's death. I am not sure about the dog biscuit thing as it rewards the dog for bad behavior, but if it works, I guess I don't care. $20 per year on dog biscuits is a good investment. But I better have the dog biscuits there everytime. The other solution is chocolate shakes! within a couple months the dog will be too fat to chase me. But that might get expensive, especially if it requires steaks rather than shakes. I guess I could dumpster dive at the supermarket.... Headline reads, "Guzzi owner plots to kill dog with food poisoning" What about a bb or pellet gun?
  12. Yah, glad you won the case Docc. This dog has almost caused me to crash to. The only time I have ever pulled a wheelie is when I was looking down at the dog and hitting the gas at the same time. My wheel spun on some sand, caught, and the front end came up with me having my head and shoulders turned hard to the right. Luckily I straightened out the front end before the front end landed. But I lost the dog! (that time) The bastard has nipped at me several times without injury, but if he gets ahold of me, it could hurt. I guess his owners were smart to say they are not his owners. Before I shoot the dog, I will give them another chance to lock him up. These neighbors have already billed my mother for her mud going into their pool because of leaky irrigation, like it doesn't happen in the rain, too. So assuming this is going to happen again, we are trying to play nice, even if the neighbors don't deserve it. Maybe I can buy the dog an electric shock collar with remote control. Or maybe put a cattle guard across the road.... I can't figure out what to do. It is unsafe to go over 20MPH, If I go slow and steady he gets too close. Varying speeds helps, but is hazardous. Slowing to a stop works, but If I take my eyes off him, he gets too close. I just can't win!
  13. speaking of dogs...does anyone make anything that sprays pepper spray about 16 inches off the ground on either side of the bike, and activates with the press of a button. I have only bled once because of this one shithead of a dog, but if I bleed again, it is WAR! FWIW, his owners say that they do not own him, and he is a stray that eats there dogs food and comes when their kids call him and sleeps and defends their property. Maybe I'll try dog biscuits first, dog bones second, steak third, pepper spray fourth, talk to the "owners" again fifth, mace sixth, and finally dog catcher or a shot gun seventh. Or maybe one of those stun guns.... Do they make dog whistles that are loud enough to annoy a dog?
  14. http://www.webbikeworld.com/Reviewed-motor.../roof-boxer.htm
  15. Will since they put an undue burden on the starter relay, and you won't need to use the horn until you are about to die. You could put them in the garbage. But then again they might save your life better than your voice shouting through your helmet, so they might mount ok on the fuel filter or fuel pump bracket. Not as audible, but still ok
  16. Yah, atleast 10,000 miles. FWIW I twisted my horn, turn signal unit down so that the turn signal is in the natural reach position. Enjoy!
  17. The common concensus is that two inches is too much. I would try 1.5 inches. After doing so, you may also be able reduce the compression damping a little as there will be less tendency to bottom out. If 1.5 feels like an improvement try 1 inch and if that feels like too much, back it off to maybe 1.25, etc. What are your damping settings?
  18. Penske has an excellent manual to download click here http://www.penskeshocks.com/8900%20Motorcy...le%20Manual.pdf Mike, Maybe I'll cruise up the coast and have you install a shock for me. What is your hourly rate? two beers per hour? I have to get a good deal out of you some how
  19. Yep, Quat-D makes this muffler and the one for the Furia. It looks like a robust design. They put brackets to reinforce the pipes but I guess the welds don't hold up. To Quat-D's defense, I don't think it would have been easy to predict such an easy failure, and other crossovers are also known to crack. I hope the inards hold up...
  20. Yah, where the pipes meet the body of the muffler. It started out as a small crack with no apparent leaking but after I put the bike in gear while it was idling on the sidestand, the sidestand hit the pipe and pushed it over the edge so now it leaks and the engine pops a little. I will have to get it welded AND reinforced. Atleast I still have my stock mufflers.
  21. Because of the two to one ratio, it will take half of 550lbs, which is 275lbs per inch of axle travel. 412.5lbs over the rear axle would make the spring sag 1.5 inches, but the bike does not sag too much, because of pre-load. (I got 412.5 pounds from taking half of 275 and adding i t to 275) 275/8 is 34.375 so with a 550lb spring, every 34 lbs over the axle will move the spring an eighth of an inch.
  22. I'll trade you my Quat-D Muffler with cracked welding for it. Or give you about half of what you paid. Put it up for sale, and if you don't get what you want I'll give you $400. It can't be too terrible as you were excited and liked it at first. My Corbin saddle moves my weight pretty far aft, so it may be fine for me. The advantage of shorter travel is less drive shaft wear!!! But more wear on the old bones. And maybe if I hang the battery where the license plate is it will put more weight over the spring.
  23. ouch! I think it is too late to knock on wood. Good luck getting it soon. For future reference, many people swear by Agostini, and the Teo Lamers network to get things faster. Although on a part like this, it is Guzzi of Italy that will probably hold things up, or not. You would think MGNA would stock atleast 1 of every single part and be able to ship it out within 24 hours.
  24. The sag numbers for the Rosso for the rear are 8mm. static, 35mm. with rider. The sag for the V11Sport with the LE Sach are 5mm. static, 30mm. with rider. which means Mike's weight makes the bike drop 27mm with Ohlins 25mm with Sachs So just to make the math simple, if we took a 100 Kg/cm spring, assumed a 2:1 ratio on the axle:shock travel, and the sag had those drop numbers, it would mean that in addition to the bike weight he he would be putting ~135 KG over the rear axle on the Ohlins sag and ~125Kg over the rear axle of the Sachs. And if we took an 85 Kg/cm spring, he would be putting ~115 KG over the rear axle on the Ohlins sag and ~106Kg over the rear axle of the Sachs. So, he has to put about 10Kg over the rear axle to get it to sag like the Ohlins. Not a huge difference, but noticeable. (125 -115 + 10) That combined with hard luggage on the Rosso, and more high speed compression on the Sachs, could certainly make the bike harsher. Mike, to put some weight over the rear axle, do you want to trade your mistrals for my stock mufflers? The results of my calculations appear a little higher than I would have predicted, I guess because the 2:1 ratio is probably closer to 1.8 or 1.9:1. I hope that make sense.
  25. I have not heard anyone whine about parts taking forever in a long long time. Knock on wood... Speaking of which, I have had handlebar mounts on order from a non-Guzzi dealer for over a month. whiiiiine.
