  6. Yes, this helps! Thanks for the reply...even the amusing tangential rant. And thanks for the term sag delta. Did you make that up? I like it....seriously! You did NOT go up a measly 2N/mm (11#/in), because your measurement of the Sachs OEM spring is WRONG, as I previously suggested, but now with the evidence that you provided. While your sag delta numbers cannot precisely determine what the Sachs spring is, we can get pretty close, assuming your sag measurements are consistent and accurate. We simply take known spring rate of the Wilbers shock, 95N/mm multiply by delta, 18, then divide by delta, 26 which gives us the measurement of the Sachs OEM spring, ~66N/mm (377#/in) (31% difference from the Wilbers) So you went up 29N/mm (166#/in), not 2N/mm(11#/in). And no, the 2:1 leverage ratio does NOT change the math. So, the answer to Gavo's question is that it is theoretically approximately a 65 N/mm spring, but since reality differs a little from theory and measurement, it could be as high as a 75 N/mm spring (~425#/in) or maybe lower than 65N/mm, but I doubt it.

  8. Sorry, I did not give the details there. My Sachs spring was replaced with a 475 pound spring. This decision was based on posts on this forum, especially Mike Stewart's who is heavier than I, and does a lot of two up riding, and rides more aggressively than I. He tried a 550#, found it too firm and went to 500. I mistakenly thought 475# would be right for me. 475 is also allegedly what ships on the Ohlins Guzzis. If I shift forward into an aggressive riding position leaning forward, it worked OK. I think Mike was following Lex's advice. I should have followed Lex's advice, too. In any case, it was only a little better than Sachs OEM spring. On the Penske, I went with a 550 # spring, and I am considering either a HyperPro or a 600# spring, since I still bottom out pretty frequently.
  9. Something is wrong with those measurements or calculations. FWIW 532 # per inch is about 90 N/mm or I guess a 0.9Nm, but I thought Nm is for torque, so not sure if it converts. When I went from the OEM spring to a 475 # spring, my laden sag decreased, not as much as I had hoped, but it did decrease, so I am surprised that you measured 532# Perhaps you did not remove the thickness of the paint on the spring from the measurement???

  11. And using that technique it is easy to check to see if you are overfilled, just let the bike sit a few hours, open the level plug, let excess drain off. After that if it still weeps, then don't worry.
  12. What will really make people dizzy is to make the analogy that the change in probability of AGW being a major threat follows this same law of logic. If a real threat of AGW is the grand prize behind one of the doors and the fraud of alleged global hoax is behind the other two doors, over the past twenty years we have seen the apparent likelihood of AGW increase about as much Monty Hall revealing the which door contains the fraud. Subjectively, as the wool is pulled from the sheople's eyes, the APPARENT odds of AGW's likelihood have gone from from about one in three to about one in two, but the reality follows Monty Hall logic, and the doubling of evidence of AGW actually increases the odds of it being true from one in three to two in three, not one in two!!! Scary Sh^†!!!

  14. FWIW I have guestimated the front Marz springs to be between .6 and .7. 0.6 could certainly be right, but I'd guess .65 The Sachs is very likely between 350 and 450#/inch. I'd guess about 425.

His mate must lengthen the ramp 1cm and indecrease the rake 0.5 degrees, but keep the angle at 25 degrees as it is spec'd in the manual, but most importantly, he must strip the red paint and paint the ramp black.     Oh Crud! I spoke too soon. The left seal gave out this weekend. Ohlins suck! but they are still the best Oh well, I guess it is time for firmer springs and fresh fluid.

Todd should be able to match the price. http://www.guzzitech.com/ Todd was very helpful to me when I pursued buying a Wilbers shock. He gave me all the dimensions which helped me determine that the Wilbers body was longer than the Penske and Ohlins, resulting in higher ride height and less stroke, than what I wanted.

  22. Measuring from the airbox will give a reading that will result in a more consistent Air:Fuel ratio Measuring from the nose will make the bike run slightly richer, especially at low velocity. I see that as a greater advantage than consistent air:fuel ratio. Moving the sensor to the nose, would keep bike temperature down in Sao Paulo traffic. But I suspect you can get greater change modifying the engine temperature sensor.

    I am at about 24,000 miles on my Ohlins Forks. I clean the fork sliding surface with silicone oil pretty regularly and I set my oil level kind of low to help reduce pressure at the fork seal. Also I use genuine Ohlins fluid. Not sure it has helped, maybe I am just lucky. Since you apparently went 20,000, you apparently are doing more than three times better than the alleged average Ohlins fork owner. I have no doubt they are more failure prone than the Marzocchi, but I highly doubt they average 6,000 miles between failures. Perhaps we need a poll So far the three posters who own Ohlins forks have gone: 18,500 with no failure, but previous owner replaced, so presumably there was a failure 18,500 ago, or sometime within that 18,500 20,000 failure 24,000 no failure Front cross-over is known to crack on your bike. Proper tightening should reduce the chance of that happening.
