And by the way Moto International is fine, too. Greg Field is an incredible contributor to this forum. I am surprised he doesn't sell bikes through a "One Click" website! Others are trying to make a profit in the tough Guzzi market, yet still find time to make valuable posts here: Todd Haven of MPH, and Pete Roper of Moto Moda have made greatly appreciated technical posts. Others such as JohnT run a tuning link dyno, and has made valuable posts concerning his upgrades. He would be another fine person to buy a PCIII from, especially if you live near Danbury, Conneticut. http://www.dyno-solutions.com/ FalcoLion is more new to Guzzis, but sells bits and contributes. I'll bet there are some Piaggio/Guzzi dealers out there lurking(perhaps wisely). Ryland makes great posts and sells forward set footpegs(probably at a generous net loss) He is also pursuing better relays to and oil pressure meter kits to benefit our community. If I were more ambitious, I would make and sell urethane cush cushions and a kit to move to a 50A starter relay. With the current value of the US dollar, it should be easy to better than break even.

FWIW Todd has done more to make PCIIIs available to Guzzis than anyone, other than the hard working people at Dynojet. He works directly with Dynojet, trailering bikes from SoCal to Dynjet HQ in Vegas to use their dynos to create maps. He fought to get a PCIII made for older Guzzis, and I believe became the exclusive dealer for those PCIIIs. I would not be surprised that if it were not for him, there would be no PCIIIUSB for the Guzzis. That being said, I prefer mapping directly to the ECU. For that Todd offers Direct Link software for only $200. But I suspect his expertise with PCIII is far greater than with Direct Link. Not that either require a PhD, but experience helps, as does a private MAP library.

IMHO if you are not willing to invest in an Optimiser, then you should consider TechnoResearch's options, or maybe TuneBoy. TechnoResearch's Diagnostic, VDSTS, is about $200 US and the mapping software, DirectLink, is also about $200 US. (EDIT that is wrong, DirectLink is about $300 US) Tuneboy still is not promoting their product, and as far as I know, only the map editor is ready for sale. TuneBoy's advantage over TechnoResearch is the PCIII map import tool. MY15M's big advantage seems to be the Optimizer. The disadvantage is the price. PCIII's biggest handicaps are that you cannot control ignition mapping, altitude or temperature compensation, or adjust over rev protection. But most people don't care about all that and are happy with something that simply makes a good running Guzzi run better. PCIIIs have the biggest selection of maps and they don't cost $200 AUS. To get the biggest selection of PCIII maps, you will have to buy your PCIII from Guzzitech.com. But sometimes you get what you pay for and a AUD200 map would likely have been tuned to greater detail than a simple tuning link map. I wonder if these could be made to work? They are nice and LOUD. Todd at http://www.guzzitech.com could probably sell you a pair. You would probably need a pair of pipes to mate the Stucchi to the muffler. Todd might be able to fit something like that.

What is the tempo? about four beats per second? Or is it irregular? What happens as speed increases? If it were the shaft the frequency would increase as speed increases, or it would go away before you notice a change in frequency. Does it matter what gear you are in?

It must be tough on the motor getting so far ahead of them in the turns that you can keep up through the laps. But don't count out improvements you can make to handling. Maybe you need to go on a diet, get skinnier tires, and learn to lean like Rossi Hailwood???? Increase the power to weight ratio, maybe a kevlar race suit, or less junk food. Skinny tires will reduce rolling drag and weight. Maybe a 3.00 on front and 3.25 rear, after all, you don't have too much power, right? But more than anything, just setting up the sag would probably do wonders. In the photos, your forks look pretty well compressed. And maybe some nitrous so you can get ahead at the starting line, or at least be happy at the pitstops (fewer calories than ale ) -
The effect on bike only sag will be pretty darn close to nil. The effect on sag with rider, will be more than bike only, but probably negligible. "Will the smaller air gap also increase damping?" FANTASTIC Question!!! I have never thought about that. The higher the air pressure, theoretically the greater the compression damping and the lesser the rebound damping, but how much of a difference would it make? It could be next to nil??? Less air gap will make you less likely to bottom out metal to metal, if that is even posssible, but you might lose effective travel and bottom out more frequently on the air cushion. Someone who knows those forks well might be able to tell you at what level you would lose travel. I suspect a 140mm air gap will reduce effective travel a little bit, but provide good protection. Are you bottoming now? What is your current air gap? You should measure before changing. Replacing springs could make a big difference!

As for sucking piss, either we have a continental difference of language, or I'll simply have to pass on the piss, and the sucking. If I had invested 11,000 US dollars on Euros in December 2000, instead of my V11, they would be worth 11,880 Euros today (assuming they were put in a non-interest bearing account), instead of the 7,487 Euros that the same money would convert to today. By comparison a Breva 750 is 7690 Euros ++ and a Breva 1200 is 11,950 Euros ++ At the current currency exchange, it will be a few years before I can afford a new Goose, although the importers seem to be giving us a good deal against the exchange rate.

I'll bet it would not be too much trouble to lower the suspension of the Stelvio so that under 6 foot folk can touch both feet. They said the seat is adjustable, right? But changing the Classic's ergo to fit those ove 6 foot might be a challenge.
