  1. That explains how you can afford more than one bike...and why you are single
  2. I don't think anyone really answered your question about how to use the threadlocker to prevent corrosion. I am not sure what the answer is. My guess is that the threadlocker offers some corrosion protection by sealing out moisture in the contact area. Outside of the contact threads, I think the protection is minimal and anti-seize is what you need if exposed to the outside, even at the risk of the bolt loosening. My gearbox had a few of the bolts on the inside of the gearbox come loose, which caused an oil leak. To fix it, on the inside I used loctite (some easily removeable grade) because I feared no corrosion in the oil bath. I forget if I used loctite or anti-seize on the outer bolts. In your case I would use thread locker on the inside and on any bolts that have NOT shown signs of corrosion, and I would use the anti-seize on the bolts that have shown signs of corrosion, and replacing them might not be a bad idea.
  3. Sounds good to me, but probably an expensive modification. I suspect a bigger alternator could also be fitted where the current one is for less investment...brackets and new cover would have to be fabricated. If driving lights are your primary goal, you might consider something like these http://www.piaa.com/LEDs/LEDs.html I imagine the price for them will drop quickly in the next few years. I have looked at HID options, but fitting the ballast and the fact that most are 35+15Watts and not 35Watts as I originally thought, has left me less than enthused. An LED taillight will save you a whopping 4Watts.
  4. Especially because it is tedious and boring to argue about that crap when there is more fun stuff like why Ohlns suspension is da best, or whether or not one should should port the engine, or minimize squish or raise the compression with pistons, or raise it with pistons and re-miled heads, or turbo, or supercharge, or change to a multivalve, or a big bore multivalve or a water cooled big bore, or just tune the bloody thing right!
  5. If it is warm out, how come I have a cold?
  6. Thank goodness we are immune here
  7. Oh crap, now I have to go out and buy the latest BMW K bike! Or maybe a Bimota? Whoever thought of mounting pogo sticks to the front of a bicycle probably never thought it would still be the dominant motorcycle suspension of the 21st century. Good article
  8. Yah, Dan probably whined that his wrist hurt, and that gave Kurt the idea If I had a nickle for every idea that I did not patent that became a sucess, I'd have about $0.95
  9. Ratchet, if you get a chance you should checkout Rosso Corsa Kurt's fine cruise control. He made a thumb activated lever out of SS that activates a wire snare between grip and throttle housing. Works great, but deactivating is tricky. I thought I took a photo at the SoCal camp out, but I can't find it. I still think it would not be difficult to modify the choke into a cruise control. But this shoelace set up has the advantage of being able to twist the throttle closed
  10. This dyno work supports much of what Greg experienced FWIW this old dyno work was done a lower compression V11 without the balance pipe. http://www.manleycycle.com/Tech.htm#MotoGuzzi Also, FWIW some dynos, especially European, appear to show no loss in peak power when using the Mistral crossover. Not sure why
  11. Wait a cotton pickin' minute. That ain't funny
  12. Also, Scura R has higher compression engine, balance pipe at the exhaust headers, and it looks like anodized aluminum shell on muffler, as opposed to Carbon fiber shell. I think the Ohlins is also probably better sorted out, and probably has hollow axle which saves a few grams of unsprung weight.
  13. Politics can build momentum like a snow man's head rolling down a dense powder covered ski slope towards the ski lodge. I wish it could have stayed at your and my first posts. I did not mean to be a kill joy, but I guess I am in present company
  14. It would be of benefit for you, because you get to do a good deed. It would be of benefit to Pierre, because if PA Speedo is correct, he gets to confirm that the problem is not the tach, and if they are wrong, he benefits from getting your working tach Simply a WIN WIN WIN situation! And a lot cheaper than the Moto Spezial speedTachoECU. Of course there is the small chance you might end up with a bad tachometer.
  15. From Moto Spezial, they make a few options with ECU, Speedo, and Tachometer all rolled into one or two units....very slick Click link to see Paul M.'s http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...ost&id=6651 Also, people with Guzzi cruisers often add tachometers, but I forget what they use I am sure someone else can post some fine alternatives to the Veglia. But Ratchet may be correct and your wiring may be at fault. A faulty ground should be easy to troubleshoot, but a faulty sending signal is trickier to determine. If you pay the shipping, maybe Ratchet will exchange Tachometers with you
  16. I know you are just trying to press 'buttons' as I know you are want to. I know you are just trying to press 'buttons' as I know you are want to. I know you are just trying to press 'buttons' as I know you are want to.
  17. I think the rear benefits even more!
  18. The GEI relay is not necessarily of the highest QUALITY. But it is of the highest amp rating for its size that Dan or I could find. The amp rating is only critical for the starter relay on the early V11s. It sounds like your ECU or FI relay went bad and that you swapped it for the starter relay.EDIT Now that I think about it you probably swapped the bad to the headlight relay. If you swap it for the kickstand relay your headlight should work and you will simply have to keep your kickstand up if you intend to run the engine. If you send the relay back to Dan, or simply email him, he will certainly send you a replacement. (back when he was selling Bosch, he offered to replace my bad one) In the meantime, or if you have lost faith in the mighty GEI, I am sure someone can recommend a Tyco or Radio Shack or whatever.
  19. Not trying to press buttons. Any political post is pushing buttons. It is our pal Richard that pushed my button. Just pointing out that one person's hero is another person's villain, and there is alot of grey area inbetween people being vilified or glorified. If you claim my mom wears combat boots, don't forget you started it when I claim your dad wears a tutu. Regarding Edwards/Rossi, a few obsessed fan(atic)s of Team Repsol might laugh but probably nobody else. I am just pointing out that for some, laughing at the joke the way Richard told it, comes about as easily as laughing if the joke were told about Valentino and Colin. A lot of people seem to hate Paris Hilton for not much of a reason, also a lot of people are her fan, also for not much of any reason that I can understand. The good that the Reverends have done far outweighs any mistakes they have made along the way. The same could not be said for Bush and Cheney. I say that to put things into a real perspective. If I wanted to push buttons, I would snip censored bitter comments editted out to protect the happiness of the forum. ...
  20. you could also put Paris and Nicky Hilton. or Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Sharpton Somehow I trust Wikipedia more than the New York Post...
  21. Very funny, if you substitute @#$$#! Cheney and George Bush for the two reverends
  22. How did you determine that you needed a new phase sensor? Happy to hear it worked Thanks, it will help me and I am sure others. My cold gas mileage is bad and this gives me confidence to remap the temperature correction using TuneBoy as the ECU pretty clearly over enrichens when cold. For those without TuneBoy, a little thermal paste should reduce the rich condition.
  23. Sorry, I only found the one from 2005, so I don't know whether to be smug http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...ge+a+light+bulb
