  1. From the original thread of enlightenment (or was there a thread before that?): That hose clamp technique is lookin more appealing than ever. Thanks for the tip! An interesting test would be to hand tighten and set the hose clamp ahead of the locking point and see if it slips to the locking point.
  2. Looks Great! Glad you chose the Quat-D I hope you had enough money to re-map the fueling. It makes a big difference with the Quat-D Before mapping the air fuel ratio in one place was 17:1 (dangerously lean) But it was not in a place where I spent much time... You got the newer Quat-D, so I suspect they improved it a bit.
  3. So, I count three votes for a black tail, one vote for a carbon fiber tail, Antonio says change the green, G.Forest and Virginia Sean say change green to match green on flag on seat, and one for a red tail. Others criticize the failure to match the flag and some did not mention the hideous green tail. So, Black tail wins, although carbon fiber would be more sweet!
  4. As long as I stay out of it, I don't see why all the lovely gentleman can't share their misinfo together in perfect (perfect like the balance of the Guzzi engine) harmony. That is ba-aaa-aa-ad
  5. Sorry, I did not mean to come across sarcastic. More flusterred and frustrated by my bike that is waiting for parts while the weather has been fantastic. Maybe I'll get lucky on eBay. But while waiting I should take care of some of the cheap insurance items
  6. With Red and Green people won't know whether your are stopping or going Although I am not a fan of Christmas color combos, I kind of like it, but then again, I kind of liked Enzo's bike, too. I know both that green and that red look better in person. Maybe it needs some racing stripes...or give up on the green and paint the tail Scura black
  7. I am hoping the extra 20mm of shock travel (~40mmwheel travel) that I got compared to your Penske will make a difference in the plush department. If not, I guess I'll just sulk I am concerned the seal on the Penske is tighter, causing more static friction, which gives a rougher ride. The tighter seal is a trade off for fewer leaks. It has taken me years to arrive at this decision, and I still can't say for sure which shock is the best value. I am amazed that our bike has so many choices. Mike, your experience and feedback is why I went with the Penske. I guess I missed a couple of the posts about your prefering the Ohlins. But I did remember you found the Ohlins more comfortable. Also, the posts by Dr.Know pushed me towards the Penske. I hope I am not disappointed. Maybe if I never ride an Ohlins equipped bike, my ignorance will be blissful I'd be interested to see those figures: I have Ohlins specifications of 286mm eye to eye and 70mm stroke (same as I spec'ed the Penske) For the Sachs I have 278mm eye to eye and 60mm stroke I previously had a note saying the sachs was 276mm, but my rough measurement indicates about 278mm plus or minus one or two mm. Ratchethack posted 280mm, which could very well be correct. I'll have a Sachs shock up for sale soon if anyone is interested. I have two of them and will part with either. One has a stock spring and one has a 475# spring. But I won't sell until I know the Penske will work.
  8. The importance of the forum's harmony. It is more important for me to be a watchdog against Ratchet's guzzi related misinformations than his political misinformations. And he too can keep me in check, as I am fallible, too. It is easier to stop arguing about whether or not running without oil pressure damages an engine than it is to stop arguing whether or not humans cause a difference in temperature. It is also mind boggling that Ratchet appears to have more people supporting his unsupportable position than I do supporting the reasonable positions that running without oil pressure damages engines, and human activity makes the planet's temperature higher. Through fueling disrespect, the global warming thread undermined what was important on this forum, dialog towards the pursuit of happy Guzzi ownership. Al Gore has the global warming under control and I don't have the forum under control. So, I guess I have to work harder on doing my petty part. What a surprise (sarcasm intended)
  9. I think I have some idea how you feel..sorry FASCINATING I looked back at your post and in it you said that the Oil Cooler Thermostat valve was the one that stuck open. So lets see...we now need a Pete Roper shloppage shleet, a Greg Field aka Acme hose clamp, and now a solution to sticking valves. What are the options? Steel wool the valves every four years? Dipstick thermometer? Oil pressure gauge? Change the oil every thousand miles to remove contaminants and make sure the oil filter is still tight??? Buy a NEW Guzzi with possibly improved, but unproved, oil system
  10. It was the greatest thread ever, and it was killed to obliviate the TRUTH.

    someday?

Sorry, I guess we could wait for April...
  12. No, I seriously believe what I stated, other than the sarcastic remarks about it being ok to run without oil pressure. I read it over and over and that is what I come away with. I am overlooking the bad sentence structure indicating that the relief valve sticking saved the motor...he did not mean that right? And I am going straight to the point he makes that based on the available information, it is 100% certain that the engine is saved after this abuse. How many times do I have to say that that is what I disagree with and am shocked that nobody else disagrees that running an engine without oil pressure can be 100% safe. If Ratchet had written than I would have no problem with the statement. There is a critical logical difference between the two statements. It is certain that riding it long enough would have ruined it (unless the valve quickly un-stuck) It is not certain from his version of the story that a prognosis of 0% chance of damage can be made. If you don't get it now, I give up.
  13. Sorry, I am not trying to wind you up. I am just trying to keep your sheople from following you blindly over the cliff. Obviously I am than only one who read the following and came away disagreeing with the claim of a 100% probability of his motor being saved after having tried to get the oil pressure light to go off in a parking lot. He is probably running the engine today, so the mechanics are correct that it was saved, but I fail to see how you can determine 100% certainty of the engine being saved after undergoing such punishment. The statement did not bother Greg or Pete or anyone else, so I am only left with the group think conclusion that it 100% ok to run your engine without oil pressure. Where is the bloody logic? WTF EDIT but then again Greg used his bike as a guinea pig for oil starvation testing before and after P.Roper Shlopper Sheet. Still I am 100% certain I don't want to run my bike without oil pressure except for that fraction of second that occurs durring engine startup. YMMV Are you trying to wind Pete Roper up?
  14. My understanding oil path goes something like: resevoir screen pump filter engine So, the pump does not suck oil out of the filter, it pushes it through the filter. If the filter came loose the pumped oil would follow the path of least resistance. If the filter was only slightly loose, the oil pressure at the pressure sensor would somewhat gradually lessen as the filter loosened. There would be some un-easily knowable period of time where the engine was getting some pressure while the light was glowing. This would probably be the same for the bikes with our sump. There might be VERY slight increase in pressure due to the submersion of the leaking filter...but I doubt the difference would be measurably consequential.
  15. Advocating that you can run an engine in a parking lot trying to get the oil light to go off seems less than responsible to me, but if Greg and Pete don't challenge it then WTF We could test the hypothesis with your bike
  16. I had asked them for eye to eye 286mm and shock travel of 70mm and they said they could not do it. So, there are some limitations to what they can do. ...which is why I am going with the Penske. And FWIW Ratchet could very well be right that the Sachs is 280mm. I measured 278mm but it was difficult to measure with my limited tools and limited ability to compensate for paralax deviations.
  17. I suppose determining what one can control boils down to acceptance or denial of anthropogenic causation. It sure can be a first step. And it sure does seem like there are many conservatives that haven't a clue about apologies or responsibility and live firmly in denile. (maybe dah Nile is what the wars in the middle east are reallly all about ) I must admit it is a preferable solution to assasinating and thereby martyrizing the likes of Dubya. Impeachment and election reform are the only serious solutions that I have been hearing from Liberals. But hey maybe Ratchet is on to something and abortion is a conspiracy by the left to rid the world of consevatives For example? I see Liberals as haters of torturers, of war profiteers, of election cheaters, of robbers of the poor, of civil oppressors. Where is this vile insane hatred? Is it one of those things that if you say it often enough, people believe it must be true?

  19. Sorry to hijack the thread, but... I AGREE that the probability of saving his motor would be 100% at that point. I regularly start my engine, idle it and rev it up without oil simply because I am 100% certain that it won't damage it. After all Pete and Greg would have said something if it was not true.
  20. Today's high, 89ºF Tomorrow expected to be hotter. Can't wait till Winter ends
  21. But Connecticut should be proud of what Bush has accomplished
  22. Perhaps Antonio was tramatized by a moderator as a child? Forbidden from the joys of life by an overprotective parent???
  23. But at least the goverment of Connecticut apologized for their mistake Probably a result of Liberalism gone too far when governments are obliged to take responsibility for what they cannot control. What was Conneticut supposed to have done? Maybe if abortion was legal back than
  24. As long as you don't mistake 17 year old who got into the bar with fake ID for something legal, you'll be OK. I think Antonio is just Jonsing to moderate a moderator. He was probably targeting me.
  25. But at least you did not drive 50 miles round trip to a mechanic who knocked it out in ten seconds. But it is better to be safe than sorry. After reading the manual, I was worried it was threaded in. I may have been better off without the manual Just remember there is no such thing as a dumb question, just a bunch of dumb things you can do to your bike with a hammer.
