  3. Thanks, that's about what I imagined there being in there. Maybe I should stop jumping my bike so much.... NAH! oh well. I'll try to figure out how to get that piece out tmrw, but I've been wanting to do something more dramatic with the exhaust for quite some time now. I really like what those motobox chaps have done with the undertail on the daytona, I'll crunch some numbers and see what I can do along those lines. I sure hope no one minds me posting this pic.
  4. I wonder if anyone might have found the cause of this. I noticed in my 01 v11 sport that there is definitely something loose within my crossover. Whatever it is, its not coming out easily so I don't suspect it went in easily. Whats actually in there that could have broken loose? I've been meaning to upgrade my exhaust system anyways, maybe this is a sign. BTW, I love this forum. I don't post much at all but I always seem to be lurking, and recently diagnosed a bad RPM sensor from information I found here. Thanks Everyone!
  5. Yeah, I had a feeling I ought to get on it pretty quick, I'm gonna try to get it over to MGC later this week and ride it as little as possible in the meantime. Thanks, I'll post again if this is the source of my woes.
  6. I've got a 2001 Moto Guzzi V11 Sport. The love of my life. So for the last 3 or 4 weeks my bike seems to be running hotter than usual, and has gotten to the point recently that it will backfire a lot and die at idle. I don't know if these are related but I think so. About 3 months ago I ran the bike from Austen, TX to Irvine, CA about 1400 miles... I think without a hitch. But after I attempted the changing of my own oils it stated going downhill. I've heard a good deal of speculation from some friends but will most likely take it into the pros at MGC in a couple weeks anyways for a good once over but in the meantime I'm interested in what anyone has to say. So far it has been suggested that it may have been from all the riding in the rain I did this winter (I'm no fair weather rider) and I'm currently running the pod-filters. I was also told that I need my valves adjusted ... or maybe timing. I am a noob so any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, ~Kyle
  7. Thanks for all the helpful advice. I've decided to proceed with black anodizing the aluminum sheath from the exhaust cans while abstaining from the valve covers for the very clear reasons discussed. When they are returned to me I will be glad to post some pictures for anyone interested. At this point I may be stretching for possibilities, but since this topic seems to have the attention of some very knowledgeable persons I would like to inquire about plating, in particular copper plating. I've done some very rudimentary google/wiki researching and have some idea as to the process involved however I'm having trouble finding info about some of the specifics. It seems that any metal that can conduct a current can be plated and as a result there is an increase in the thickness of the material. What I'm most concerned about however is the temperature and whether there is any precedence of this process being used under similar conditions. I've seem Triumph valve covers with what appears to be copper plating but I haven't had the opportunity to ask if it was the real deal or some sort of powdercoating sham. I plan to call around to some local places in the next day or two but I thought I would throw the idea out to you guys since you've already helped me out so much already. Thanks again, ~Kyle
  8. Here's the low down, I've got an opportunity to get some parts black anodized and I have a few in mind but I'm not entirely sure they are all possible. (by the way, my bike is an 01 V11 Sport) I'd love to do something with my head covers, I've searched the forum and there were several topics describing powder coating which from what I understand can be done with any material. Black anodizing, however, is specific to aluminum I believe so I guess my question is whether the head covers are pure aluminum or something mixed or if anyone has done this before and can comment on the results. I know they are coated with that greyish paint which I will need to strip off (I suppose I would use a sand blaster) before the process can be done but I don't want to proceed if it won't work. My second idea involved the exhaust cans which from what I can recall have an aluminum sheath that covers the actual can. Same thing, I wonder if anyone has had any experience with this. I was told by the contractor that the process takes place at 72 degrees so there should be no risk of warping and that the finish shouldn't dull in any way due to the heat. I realize there are benefits to the powder coating and that it is tried and true, however, free is free and I'm interested in the result. Thanks for any help!

    Ex Box

I'd sure like to find a reasonably priced Quat D Ex Box or one of those Ghezzi & Brian exhaust systems that mounts beneath the bike. There is just something about the look that I find very appealing. If anyone has one of these and wants to get rid of it or trade for a set of 2001 V11 Sport pipes (I can include some $$) I would sure like to make a deal.
  10. Hopefully these are the befores, there is so much I want to do with this bike.

    New Tail Section

I would love to say you beat me to the punch on your tail section modification, but I honestly wasn't sure how to pursue such a project so I kept pushing it back. It does look great though, I love what you've done and would like to imitate it (to an extent) on my '01 V11 Sport. I had one question though, and that is with regard to your "custom split it 1/2 way through". Is that something you worked with them on, or was it something you were able to do with one of their kits?
  12. Thanks for the tips about Quat D. I will roll it around in my head for a while until I save enough money, unless a deal comes along I can't refuse. I still think I like the Ghezzi-Brian one a bit more but I suppose the same effect is achieved. I'll look a bit harder but there seems to be some descripency among members as to the performance of the Quat D exhaust, some seem to say there is a loss in performace, while others adimently disagree. Time to do some research.
  13. I've got a 2001 Moto Guzzi V11 Sport and have been exploring ways to mod it since before I even bought the damn thing. I love it and want to make it my own as much as possible. I like the stock cans (which I bastardized not 72 hours after driving the bike home) but have seen a few photos floating around with the Ghezzi-Brian racing exhaust system that is placed under the bike. I've searched the forum here and have come up with links and tips but most of em seem a bit dated. I tried contacting the Ghezzi-Brian people directly with no result. I wonder if this is the only option available for this type of exhaust and where I might find one or something similar.

I may not have much of a choice in the matter, money is a rareity around here. I'm not thinking about anything to extreme or non-reversible but I'll take it under consideration. Also, how can you tell me not to ask and expect me not to? . . . . . . . . How is you're V11 sport not stock, besides the bars that is?

You're a good man Charlie Brown..... cough.... Steve. I had a vague knowledge of this recall from my random google searches but hadn't thought a whole lot of it. As far as the rest of it goes, I will bring your suggestions as a print out and run through every one. I believe the bike has about 16,000 so if I have my way about it I will have reached 20k by the end of January . I plan to ride it to Vegas with a buddy of mine (assuming he gets his 73' CB750 in good running order) then down to San Diego for the Modders vs Rockers thing. It's going to be a very busy and very enjoyable month.

Hi all, I don't own a guzzi just yet but I hope to change that here in 3 weeks when I return from an out of state trip. I've been watching a 2001 V11 Sport that Mark has over at MotoGuzziClassics. I was absolutely floored when I was finally able to see it and sit on it IRL. I won't say anything profane but it was a whole other experience when he started it up for me, it was the first time I had heard a guzzi, such a beast. Anyways, just wanted to let my presence be know and thank everyone for their previous posts. I have great expectations for this bike, I'd really like to make it my own. Right off the bat a little bit of paint will help (the bike is bone stock balck), some bar end mirrors to help the profile a bit, a fender eliminator kit, and if I can find the monies I'd like to move the footpegs (I'm a pretty big guy, 6'5"). About the footpegs though, I wonder what people have to say about moving them back a bit. It seems the pegs are generally moved forward an inch or 2 but I'd like to see them back and up a little more? Again thanks for all the posts, they will make a my modding much smoother.
