  1. How many clicks out from full rebound/comp do you have on your Ohlins shock Mike? I'd also like to know what settings others have found appropriate on the Ohlins forks(how many clicks back from full). It would be good to hear some "baseline" settings others have found work well on these. al

  3. This view shows the one spacer in the rear setup.... as seen on the far left(it goes up in the bevel box, between it and the rear wheel). Perhaps your "extra" spacer is for the rear? Did you put that spacer back in?

  5. Ok, here are some photos from the CD-based service manual. Normally there definitely is only ONE spacer on the left hand side typically on a 2000-2003 Sport/LeMans(pre hollow non-threaded axle). And the axle is stepped.
  6. Mikie, Is your axle "stepped" instead of perfectly uniform/smooth/same-diameter the whole length? I'm pretty sure my axle was larger on one end(the head-end), and being a larger diameter had a step down on the right side(head-side) that acted as the right spacer. The left(thread side) had the spool shaped spacer. I could be mistaken though, as I don't remember 100% Maybe Guzzi used a couple different ones through 2000-02 I wouldn't be the first time The only spacer(other than the brake caliper) that I *remember* off-hand for he rear wheel was up inside the bevel box, between it and the wheel. al

Naw, but seriously.... several of us got a "gun runners" deal on the forks from some spooky shady fella's trunk in Italy No really, honestly We got them for about $1100 And then I bought Mike Stewart's Ohlins from him, as he was nice enough to offer it to me when he realized he wasn't going to have time to utilize it right away. I just paid him what he paid EMA, which is right at $900, including the new spring installed. So, since Mike Stewart made my new front spacer for free, and the new axle was about $60 if I recall, and about $10 for bearings.... well, let's just say $2100 for the whole deal. And yeah, my spring is the 85kg spring. Is it too heavy? I don't know, as I don't really have anything to compare it to, other than the OEM Sachs. But I can say it's a lot more compliant/supple with the new Ohlins. Mike ordered the shock with this spring rate, based on his experiments with the Penske and Sachs rebuild. He weighs about the same as I, so I dunno... it seems to work. But I'm always interested to hear more if other rates might be better?? ...the springs are pretty cheap after all. al

  9. Some more photos, as requested.... keep in mind that this is not dramatically different from the standard location for which the kit is designed. The only difference is moving it a bit forward by mounting it on the front bolt location.

  12. Based on my recollection before I replaced the forks on my '02, there is a single spacer for the threaded side/end of the threaded axle. The spacer is "spool" shaped, with slightly flanged ends, versus perfectly barrel smooth. ...anyway, that's how I think I remember it al
  13. Hrmmm, hard to say without being there, but it's not detonating/pinging is it? Your description sounds a lot like it. High comp piston mods, and too lean a fuel mixture are scenarios that can exacerbate the already detonation prone Guzzi combustion chamber. Typically a V11 is prone to detonation under hot ambient conditions(80+ degrees) and high RPM accelerations or load.... and it does sound like a jackhammer, because you are indeed "jackhammering" the piston If it is indeed detonation, and is pinging consistently, versus just rarely on a really hot day under hard acclerations(which isn't desireable either, but "normal" for these bikes), you need to have that checked into post-haste, as you'll eat your plugs, and perhaps pistons and valves. You may just have too lean a map, and developing some "hot spots" in the combustion chamber since you don't have enough fuel to cool things down. If you aren't sure, I would run it my Moto International and let one of the techs there run it around the block and see what they say. Again, I don't want to inspire terror, but it's really hard to tell without first-hand listening al

  16. Whoo hoo... TLM received my ECU today(took a week to get there) and they are sending it back to me tomorrow with the new ignition curve for the dual-plugged heads So since the engine case rebuild kit still isn't here from MGNA, I guess I can still get a pre and post ignition curve dyno run for everyone that will showcase any advantages(if any) the dual-plugging offers in regards to performance. I still have my old ECU with the stock ignition curve, so we can swap them back and forth for comparison. Stay tuned.... in a few weeks hopefully al
  17. ..... I wonder if *his* crossovers are "straight" ...as opposed to the hit and miss QA on the Stucchis? It'll be interesting to see what reviews his crossovers receive. One very positive thing I can say about the Stucchis, is that they are indestructable. I swear you could drive a tank over one and it wouldn't bend... which can be a good or bad thing if you get the aforementioned crooked one I didn't look, but does he have those master cylinder caps for both the brake and clutch? al
  18. ...heh heh So that's where we got our forks Paolo emailed me that had a rear shock available the other day. Sounds almost like "gun running" or something In regard to what forks will fit the V11, a variety of Ducati forks, both Showa and Ohlins will fit.... and others that may just coincidentally be the correct dimensions. But yes, Ohlins doesn't currently sell any R&T direct bolt-ons for the V11. One has to buy a pair of the forks that Guzzi sources for the Cafe Sport, etc. The LeMans(bikes with clip ons above the tree) forks are a bit longer than the earlier models, but the other dimensions are equivalent. Without going into detail here, check out the: Hollow Axle Thread ...where we discussed various forks that fit, their dimensions, and what modifications such as new axles and bearings must be fitted. But as an addendum, it seems from some photos that the new Marz(and certainly the Ohlins) forks may already have the larger hollow axle, and if so, one probably would not need to change out to the larger bearings, and modified spacer. I'll try to remember to get a couple more photos of the rear preload adjustment mount tonight. al
  19. TLM in the Netherlands, one of the Forum's sponsors, and/or their US affiliate, Moto International in Seattle are good bets. MPH Cycles in Houston is also a good option. I can't tell you which would work out best in regards to duties or shipping, but give them a call and see which might work best. You could also ask Pete Roper who in Oz might be a good alternative too. al

Yep, this seems to be a pretty common thread.... one is usually pretty nervous using the stand at first, and in my case I always called for an "assistant" But after a handful of times, I can now take the bike on and off the stand quite quickly. The only way my technique differs from many is that I put the handle on the right-hand side, and push the handle toward the front of the bike, whilst holding the front brake with my left hand. I found that for whatever reason, the handle on my stand would not clear the exhaust cans to use it with the handle facing backwards. I assume YMMY al

This thread may help in the How To section: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1326 .... but yes, the axle screws out from the right side with the hex key/slug included in your tool kit in combination with a socket. Once you unscrew it, you can pull/work it out by hand. Hope that helps al

Well, Moto Italiano submitted my warantee claim... or are doing so as I write this... so we'll see how long it takes If it's anything like my fairing, I should look for the part in oh.... about 8 months al P.S. I checked on the status of my engine case replacement, and MGNA is telling them that they have most of the kit, but a few "key pieces" are on back-order. MI hasn't even started ONE case replacement yet, and they were supposed to back in December *sigh* Good thing this is only a cosmetic issue(in both examples )
  23. High 20's around town seems pretty consistent for many of us, although some have reported higher. I regularly have gotten 27-29ish around town, which I agree seems a bit low compared to other bikes I've owned, but it is what it is But on the other hand, when taking long trips where a constant RPM is mostly maintained, I've seen upward of 43mpg. So it is possible. Your bike is also fairly low mileage, and economy should improve as you approach 10k miles. As Cliff suggested, a "tune up" certainly won't hurt, but more than that, time should improve mileage. As long as I'm just tooling around town, I don't mind 140ish mile range before refilling. Of course, for longer jaunts, I want at least 150 before getting nervous, hence my project in the wasted fuel thread. I would say though, that if you are getting as low as 25mpg consistently, there is definitely something amiss. al
