I just spent the prior evening reading/re-reading all 56 pages of this thread, and although it has been said many times; Scud and Chuck deserve a huge "thank you" for all the hard work and perseverance to see this project through to the end. So now with a few years in production, and it looks like at least 10s of thousands of miles of real-world use, it appears that we haven't heard of any of the improved springs failing?

I too ran across the LEDPerf model that says it is "plug and play" for the Lemans, and wondered if anyone had actually tried to see if it indeed was a physical "plug and play" fit with the Lemans headlight setup. Anyone? It's not very expensive, relatively speaking, but then again that may or may not bode well for quality or accuracy of the product description. I agree that I don't really love the high-tech look, but then again I really do like being able to see the road well at night Round LED headlight for Moto-Guzzi V11 Le Mans - 5 year warranty (ledperf.us)

Ohlins service recommendation?
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
Maybe, in that email exchange above he seems to suggest they may have upgrade solutions for OE Marzocchi suspension. It might be worth inquiring if they do, or if they would be interested in taking a look at the "old" Marzocchi forks on the V11 series to see what may be possible -
As I am assembling an inventory of what needs to be done to refresh my bike, and what I have on-hand, I'll likely be trying out a set of Motratech foot controls which I suspect I have squirreled away with many other bits pre-COVID illness and brain-fog. I also believe I already have the Lucky Phil's shift extender and Scud's updated spring, although not yet installed; so my question is a two-parter with regard to using the extender with the Motratech controls: 1) Has anyone used Chuck's Lucky Phil extender with the Motratech foot controls successfully? 2) Is there still a benefit of using Chuck's Lucky Phil extender with the Motratech foot controls? Chuck, I hope you feel better soon. I had COVID in early 2021 and was down for about a month, in the hospital twice, and had serious post-COVID issues in the subsequent months that then lingered for a year+. It's no fun. For reference:

Ohlins service recommendation?
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
Thanks Andy, that's now a couple positive references for the folks in Hendersonville And on that note, here is a response I received last night from Luciano Ubaldini, president of the new owners of "Fast Bike Industries", Andreani USA in Hendersonville, NC. I asked him if he minded if I shared his response with the forum before doing so. -
Ohlins service recommendation?
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
Thanks, and while there is only one MG dealer in NC in Charlotte which is only 2+ hours away, there are a few Ducati/BMW shops within an hour that do say they have Ohlins specialists. So that may be a good option as well -
Ohlins service recommendation?
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
Yes, this is the same "Fast Bike Industries" in Hendersonville, NC, but I'm not sure if the same technicians are working there though. I'll have to ask them if the same technical staff is working there after they were sold to Andreani. -
Ohlins service recommendation?

Lindemann Engineering is indeed still (or back) in business, run by a friend that picked up the business after Jim's passing: Lindemann Engineering Race Suspension - Lindemann Engineering (le-suspension.com) They quoted similar pricing for the work. -
Well, if it ever becomes a problem with my 2002 for me or a future owner, I don't know how we'd substantiate what happened unless MG USA has a record of the warranty work perhaps. The shop that did my work has been out of business for a decade or more, so I can't call them Perhaps like KINDOY2 a new engine number can be assigned by the "authorities" if necessary one day.

Prior to the pandemic I had planned to rehab my 2022 Lemans, but then things of course went off-course... The Lemans has been sitting, minimally maintained, for many years prior to that as other priorities took precedence. As part of evaluating what needed to be done to put the bike back on the road, I noticed that the bump-stop on my MG 127 Ohlins rear shock had completely disintegrated and fallen apart. So back in 2019 I had located a shop called Fast Bike Industries here in North Carolina that specialized in service of various suspension brands, including Ohlins. They quoted $160 for a service that includes full disassembly, inspection, deep cleaning, and reassembly. This included the few wear and tear parts such as piston band, o-ring, seal, oil, and the aforementioned bump stop. Well, as many things have changed in those intervening years, Fast Bike Industries (Hendersonville, NC) was acquired by Andreani USA, who still does the work and the quote is now $175. And if I want a new heavier spring for my expanding waistline, a replacement Ohlins spring is $100. None of that sounds too bad to me, but I also don't know that much about Andreani USA, or really even the prior Fast Bike Industries. So two questions: 1) Does anyone know anything about Andreani USA (formerly Fast Bike Industries) and the quality of their work? 2) Does anyone have any other recommended shops in the USA that service Ohlins suspension to recommend? It wouldn't surprise me if my forks could use some service in the coming year or so as well. So any recommendation would be great that also services and can setup Ohlins forks as well as shocks. I had the forks setup by Lindemann Engineering many years ago, again when I was about 30 pounds lighter, but Mr. Lindemann passed away some time ago. But the company still is in operation, so I'll reach out to them as well. Thanks!

I'm curious why CHP cared if the block had an engine number? It's been almost 20 years since I lived in CA, but I don't recall engine number on titles or registration. Is that required?
-
Yep, my 2002 has no engine number anymore either because my cases were factory warranty replaced waaaaay back when due to the early bikes having their fuzzy black paint bubble off. I've always wondered if no longer having engine case numbers may cause a problem one day from a documentation perspective, but it of course isn't the bike's VIN, so probably not. Although I suppose being an issue or not may vary depending on where one lives and the relevant vehicle laws regarding registration and titling.

Two different swingarm pivots reported?
al_roethlisberger replied to Lucky Phil's topic in Technical Topics
I'm sorry, but that was back in 2003-4 I believe, so I just don't remember. (Wow is that really 20 years ago?!) As an aside, I guess my 2002 will officially be a "classic" in four years? ...or is 20 years enough? I brought the original porkchop to the machinist to determine the right size back then, so I'm not certain I ever knew the correct size. -
Two different swingarm pivots reported?
al_roethlisberger replied to Lucky Phil's topic in Technical Topics
An old thread, but it caught my interest as I ran into this in the early 2000s soon after buying the 2002, when I bought a set of used porkchops, had them powder-coated candy red, then took them back home only to face this same issue where the pins were too large. I ended up having the porkchops reamed and tapped to the correct size since they were already coated. I don't recall if I even knew at the time what make and model MG the used porkchops came from, because like all of you I assumed they were all the same. Nope -
For any 1100 Sport fans, you might want to check this out: https://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/d/raleigh-1997-moto-guzzi-1100-sport/7198235956.html I have no affiliation, although he's in my neck of the woods. I don't normally see a lot of MG activity around these parts as I don't think this area every really had a MG dealer. Looks like this fella has a bunch of 1100 Sports. I wonder if someone here knows him?

I don't know either, but my 1989 air cooled FJ1200 always seemed to be cooler running than the V11...
-
Yeah, we're a month past our Honda Pilot being totaled, and the insurance companies are still squabbling. I just got off the phone with them, again... And no matter what they offer, it will not replace the use of the paid off, well maintained vehicle we had at our disposal.

Was it a hit and run, did he stay, or did the other guy even realize he hit you?
-
Awesome I wonder if yours is the highest mileage V11 Sport in the world? I still have about 18 months to go for mine to reach 20 years old with the original owner.

If the valve clearances were "in spec" for the US, they may be too tight as they were to meet US noise regulations as I recall. Once they get good and heated up, that gap is too small and they become too tight for the engine to idle well. I seem to remember this happening to mine when I first had it too. The better "Euro spec" valve adjustments should be in the FAQ section for tuneup.

I don't think Moto Guzzi ever made any bar risers, and other than the logo those look exactly like MPH risers. Perhaps MPH changed their logo over the years, or someone copied their design? https://mphcycles.com/handle-bar-risers/ That being said, if the OP (Bridge) doesn't want them, let me know when you decide to pull them off as I may be interested in the set.

Ah the "Seal Mate"... https://sealmate.net/ I watched a few videos. Interesting and simple little tool. Definitely a great inexpensive and simple first step to try before tearing down your forks, or sending them to a shop for new seals.

As I recall, didn't the OZ wheels fail to incorporate a cush-drive? Will it bolt up to the V11 as-is?

Carbon Fiber Starter Cover and Chin Pad
al_roethlisberger replied to R.I.P. Mikko's topic in 24/7 V11
I think cost will be a key question, even if just an estimate. So that will be helpful to know. Since I changed out to a 2003 tank years ago, the "chin pad" isn't an option anymore. But I've often thought it would be neat to have the starter cover in CF. For me if I were interested... based mostly on cost of course, the more durable and sturdy weave would be preferable if there is a difference in durability between the 1x1 and 3x3. I have the CF front fender as above, but I doubt anyone would tell any difference in weave type between the fender and starter cover since they are so far removed. -
So I wonder if Greg was referring to this whole kit below or just the "upgraded" stator? The kit below looks like it may be physically larger, see what appears to be a spacer for the replacement rotor that itself looks thicker?? Is it? Maybe we should ask Todd at Guzzi Tech if curious. https://gtmotocycles.com/collections/electronics/products/eme-h-o-charging-system-upgrade
