  1. This only really needs to be done after the first xx?? miles on a new bike, or if you ever take the heads off. The cylinder studs will stretch a bit as the bike breaks in, and you will need to retorque the heads probably about the same time as the first valve adjust. If you have your dealer do the first service, I think this is included in the process, although I'm not certain. It should not be required again, although it might be a good idea to check the torque values during your once-a-year going over. It only takes a few extra minutes while you are in there(well, you do have to remove some more "stuff" first ) al
  2. It is almost certainly valve-lash related. Loosen your valves to Euro or Raceco specs, and the problem will go away. The issue is that North American EPA regulations made MG use very tight valve lash settings for noise compliance(we assume), and once the bike gets good and hot, the valve train ends up too tight to tick over well. I had this problem for almost a year, and after several unsuccessful trips to the dealer, we eventually found the problem ourselves. In fact, the dealer had a 2002 LeMans demo bike that they couldn't get to run worth a damn because of this very problem, which I found ironic See the following threads, or a search on "tight valves" or something like "hot stall" will return even more: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...l=tight++valves http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...l=tight++valves http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...l=tight++valves http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...l=tight++valves Valve Adjustment FAQ It could also be vapor-lock related, but I doubt it from your description. Vapor Lock and Tank Suck FAQ al
  3. I can't offer a good solution, but my bike started a weird low freq vibration/rattle right after I fixed my shift return spring. It only made the noise when the engine RPM moved through the ~1000rpm range(such as slowing down to a light, or about to idle up and take off), and the fairing amplified the sound. It definitely came from down around the engine/transmission though, although I never could isolate it, and it of course NEVER did it unless I was ON the bike sitting in traffic I never did figure out what it was, and we'll see if it still exists when I get the bike back al
  4. ...got 'em after the second try I wonder if this is the same set? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4544470544&rd=1 al
  5. Rosso Mandello: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4543520007&rd=1 This one is especially interesting. ...lots of modifications, including TLM dual-plug heads, although it looks like he used aftermarket coils http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...4&category=6713 I'm surprised this is one fella we didn't see here on the forum considering the modifications done. There's also a Rosso Corsa with low miles right here in NorCal: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...7&category=6713
  6. I got corrupted files on both CDs.... trying again. al
  7. Resources like this are really great. I know space on the server is limited, but these are a prime example of something we should host here on the site in the files section if possible. al
  8. .... I guess you are saying the FJ is ugly? Well, OK, it is all a matter of personal taste But like many things, I will say that "in person" the FJ is much better than in photos, and the bike was fairly well received, even through today, as quite a nicely styled bike. I ran across some photos of my black and gold '89 the other night, and thought... wow, that was a cool bike, exposed air-cooled engine, semi-faired, nice It's funny that even with mid-80's technology, these bikes continue to be ridden and modified, and perform within a hair of some modern bikes. Here is a link with photos and info on most of the later years: http://www.importmc.com.au/bikes/fj1200/ http://www.fj1200.com/other_fjs.html And here are some photos of the year I had
  9. I update them fairly regularly, and just updated the "trans spring" FAQ a couple days ago. Since I keep each post closed/locked, and just edit the existing one, the date doesn't change. It is true that I(or anyone else) has created a wholly new FAQ in a while though. I create them as requested, or I observe a need There is a thread in the FAQ forum/section for requesting new FAQs or other suggestions, but it is rarely used. al
  10. Well, this "poll" is from waaaay last year, so thanks for the feedback, but it's been a done deal for a long time now As mentioned somewhere back in the thread, I went with the "Moto Guzzi" classic badge only, no eagle. I think it looks very clean al
  11. Possibly, but I'd check your shift linkage first. Your linkage may be a bit loose, or out of adjustment. If the linkage is all tight, and you can't adjust this problem out, then keep an eye on the shifting It usually works or it doesn't... and once it doesn't, it doesn't start working again al al
  12. What kind of lift are you using to keep the front of the Corsa off the ground? al
  13. Paul just sent me the official TSB for the shift spring failure(which BTW does turn out to be a boss size issue on the pawl), and I've added it to the FAQ. But I'd like to write another FAQ that lists all the official recalls and TSBs for the V11 Sport/LeMans. If anyone has the official text, reference numbers, etc... for any recall or TSB, please send it to me, or add it to this thread. Once I get enough info for a reasonable number of them, I'll put together a FAQ just for them. There really shouldn't be too many. thx al
  14. Great news for Todd, and it sounds like a blast
  15. I don't know, as I don't have any ...maybe you are thinking of another bike But that being said, I would love to have the simple, understated version that came on the Rosso Mandello. al

    WTF?

I love eBay as well, no sarcasm either ....but there are a lot of scam artists out there. I wish eBay had the facility for a buyer/seller to bar some types of buyer/seller from bidding. For example, on some of my auctions, I've stated my policy of not selling/shipping outside of the USA. However, some buyers ignore that, and bid anyway. Then I end up having to relist the item, or find one of the other bidders. It's a PITA. Just the other week, I had some "Nigerian Scam" fella from Singapore come in and do a quick "buy it now" on a bass amp I had on there, and screwed my auction all up. So I've had to relist it. It's annoying. al
  17. The reservoirs are holding up fine, but the little plastic sight windows tend to decay. The first set I had started to dissolve in about 2 years(I think), although they never leaked. But given time, I'm sure they would have. The second set is fine so far, but don't know what they'll be like long term. I figure that if this set goes bad, cracks, etc... I'll just get some aluminum blanks and put in them. I don't really need sight windows anyway with these as they are so dark inside it's hard to tell anyway al

    WTF?

So, I sent the seller the following brief note: His response was: .... the photos for the auction have now changed, and so has the description I'd be suspicious. It's pretty hard to screw up the pictures that way(several of them) showing entirely the wrong bike. al
  19. Just out of curiosity, how much is the "kit"? I couldn't easily find pricing. Every time I see this setup, I drool al
  20. When I get the bike back, I'll pull the stock cam off and take some photos of the nylon prototype I had sent to me. Then I'll give it a ride around and let you know, but I'm not confident to leave the plastic unit on long-term. al
  21. Go to his forum(linked a few posts prior), and he had loads. If he doesn't currently, I'm sure he will happily send some to you. al
  22. ...nope, it shouldn't feel "mushy" or hesitate at all if everything is tuned well. Check the standard things, TPS, TB balance, etc... then drop a note to Todd about the mods you have done(if any) and make sure he has a good map for you. al
  23. Yep, went by Moto Italiano for the first time in about 3 weeks, and saw the new case in the bike for the first time. They have the bike fully assembled, and just working out a few final kinks. I almost completely forgot what the bike looked like As reported, the new case finish is slightly different than that on the transmission(and originally on the old case), but is close enough. And it certainly looks loads better than before. Here's hoping the finishes will hold up for a few years now ...which BTW, the "whole deal" for this with me is, that I didn't mind if the engine paint wore off in 5 years or something, but bubbling off in a few months was a bit much. I understand the thermal stresses put on a painted engine, and my '89 FJ1200's black engine looked fairly worn after 12 years, but that was reasonable. Anyway, when I get the bike back in hand, I'll take some photos for comparison. al
  24. Contact Tood Eagan at www.guzzitech.com as he is the resident Guzzi PCIII "guru"(officially BTW, not just opinion ) But I've noticed that once you improve the breathing of these bikes, idle does climb, and my bike does the same. Your Veglia tach is probably optimistic anyway, so you are probably idling around 1500. It's not a big deal. And as far as getting the right map, just ask Todd for one that fits the mods you have done. It sounds like you have done some pretty standard stuff, and he should have a map or two just for the mods you have performed, so no, you don't have to get a custom map... but it is nice al
