  1. Any chance you could blow that up a bit.... I'm having a hard time reading it (Oh, and a brief synopsis/translation for us US-centric English only weenies would be great too ) al
  2. ...maybe, but would love to see some photos first. Also, don't the Sport stalks mount differently than the LeMans ones, on the front? Maybe not, but I'm not certain.... al
  3. Here is a review of the kit: http://www.jwspeaker.com/pdf_files/cw_article.pdf
  4. ...that's what I was thinking. I'm sure on the LeMans, one could cut the back out of the bucket if necessary, so you could still mount it using the OEM bracketry. It looks like it is already weather tight from the drawing, and being inside the fairing, water/weather shouldn't be a big issue... but that's just an assumption at this point. I don't know what it would take to use this on a Sport, as the bucket is an issue, and the Sport headlight is bigger than 7 inches. They apparently sell a bucket for it, two models actually, but I couldn't find it off hand. Their specified bucket model is the 6014 and 6015 al
  5. http://www.jwspeaker.com/catalog/forward_l.../model_8100.htm Now, that *is* an interesting solution. It is a 7" lens, which typically is an odd size, but is the size of the LeMans lens if I recall So, if so... I might actually look into this, as it also offers the durability/redundancy of a two bulb solution, which is very attractive to me since it's so hard to change our light. Although it is odd/interesting that the high beam is a standard halogen, unit Neat. ...if this fits(depth is a concern too, and I'm sure it won't fit in the stock LeMans bucket without some cutting), this could be "the" solution al
  6. Why are you selling it Jaap? Did you get some hardbags, or just find that you didn't need the extra luggage on trips? al
  7. ... Carl, are you talking about "projector" beams(which is a lens type), versus HID(which can use a projector lens as well)? If so, I agree that projectors always look less classic, and would look awful on a Sport/LeMans IMHO. The lights shown on the Ghezzi&Brian above are projectors for example, but I don't think they are HIDs. Now, all that being said, if someone made a kit that would fit inside our stock headlamp enclosure, that would be something I'd be interested, for say... around $300. Why? Well, for one, the HID setup uses about half the power. Also, although there is evidence that the higher temp HID may actually be worse for night vision at the periphery of the beam, the stock headlamp is fairly meager being a single beam. So I could go for the better lighting. The challenge of course is that we have a single lens setup. So we would have to have a servo actuated HID setup to move and shield the HID bulb's focal point and cutoff for high and low beam. These kits are available, but usually sourced from salvaged Audi's, etc... and bought as a pair for about $500. So two people would probably want to go in and split the cost. Now, these particular "kits" aren't really kits so much as just the parts required.... so someone would still have to take the risk of trying to make it all fit. And these projectors are pretty long, so I don't know if they'd fit And alternatively, of course the "drop in H4 conversion" kits are not just junk, but illegal here in the US. One can't just put a rebased HID bulb in our reflector and expect it to put out a reasonable beam pattern. Troll around other "larger" bike forums, and search for various posts on HID conversions, and you should find many. It should become obvious that only the most carefully executed(and usually expensive) conversions actually produce usable beam cutoff/patterns. al
  8. I went with the pods because: 1) I was doing that whole fuel-pump relo thing, but now is irrelevant with the 2003 tank 2) They look cool 3) And this bothers me... From Todd's article referenced above: If they perform about the same, I personally prefer pods.. mostly just for looks than anything else
  9. I'm sure if you peruse the "MGS-01 when?" thread, you'll find out about all you ever wanted to know Basically, MG is out of 4V heads, and used them all up for the 50-ish MGS Corsas. The 4V mold was broken, lost, or maybe(no one seem sure) it's just not cost effective to make more as air-cooled bikes fade into history due to emissions requirements.... but there aren't anymore hi-cam engines. But even so, although the 4V is a great engine, the current 2V nips right at its heels when in a good state of tune, with less complexity, and a lower COG. To get the most out of the 4V engine, you needed to rev it, and with that in mind... the 2V is probably a better engine choice for the type of bike the Griso represents. But the MGS Corsa represents the last hurrah of the 4V air-cooled engine from MG it seems... at least in the Daytona engine iteration. BTW, MG corporate marketing literature always hypes HP at the flywheel, not rear wheel. The 4V engine was probably putting out about 100hp at the flywheel, but not quite 90 at the rear wheel. This isn't too much more than a well tuned 2V. al
  10. Check the FAQ: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=461 It doesn't have measurements, but you can probably deduce as much from the models listed al
  11. It mostly relies on how aggressive/influential one's dealer is too I think. Moto Italiano got my case replacement approved sight-unseen... al
  12. Nice product As an alternative, I too have the Throttlemeister "heavy" models, and found them to be very effective... although my right hand, which has CT issues, still will go numb in about 30 minutes... but that's not unique to the Guzzi. Throttlemeister will sell just the solid ends, without the "cruise control" if interested as well. al
  13. Howdy and welcome back .... I'll be moving your way as well, sorta. Either Austin, TX or Raleigh, NC ... by this Summer. Cheers
  14. ..yeah, I never liked "Stone" or frankly any "American State" name for foreign products like the California, Nevada, or similarly Blaupunkt radios which for some weird reason had US City names for their models Come on guys, embrace your own heritage... sheesh Griso is "bodygaurd" in Italian slang from what I understand. al
  15. I don't know of anyone that has applied the "Jet Hot"(type) ceramic exhaust coating to their valve-covers... although I'm sure it could be done by any shop that does the service. However, since the ceramic coatings are meant to reflect/trap heat, I'm not sure that this would be a good idea. However, if want to get your covers polished or chromed, that is certainly an option, as well as getting them powder coated a color. Just check your local Yellow Pages for a bumper rechroming shop if you want it chromed, or call your local HD shop... as I'm sure they'd know a good chromer. If you want them polished, you can do so yourself with some work, or again... just call around bike shops. However, some folks have had mixed results polishing the valve covers due to their being cast aluminum, plus with polished stuff... you have to maintain it. You can also check eBay for chrome or polished covers. They show up every once in a while. Good luck... whatever you choose, it's an easy modification. al
  16. Even with the external petcock supposedly closed, I would often still plug it will some chunk of rubber hose, just in case it dribbled.
  17. Stupid motorcycle[anything] names?? ..... anything that sounds too "pretentious" IMHO It's one of those hard to define, but "you know it when you see[hear] it" rules, that falls under the "common sense" paradigm Methinks that the fact some things end up with these names indicates that said marketeer has a lack of the aforementioned "common sense"
  18. Thanks Andy ..... we've got several ex FJ owners on the board, so I'm sure this is interesting to them as well. al
  19. Succinctly, yes See: 2003 Tank Retrofit Wasted Fuel In Tank 2003 Fuel Tank Capacity ...and one of our "longer" threads: Relocating Fuel Pump Again, in the end, sourcing a 2003+ tank with the internal pump/filter is the cleanest option if one is interested. al
  20. In which of the three "stock" locations on the 00-02 V11s is yours located? 1&2 are swapped locations of the filter and pump, either on top of the frame or underslung over the left cylinder. 3 is the old Centauro/Sport1100 location, where it is located out in front of the engine subframe, above the lowered oil-cooler. Jaap has option 3 for example, which seems to be fairly rare, but a late model 2002 option before Guzzi opted for the in-tank solution starting in '03. This again, interestingly, is a throwback to earlier models than the V11. We can only assume that this was to finally give some creedence to the vapor lock issues some experienced with the 1 or 2 location. So to obliquely answer your question.... although I don't know of anyone converting a 1 or 2 located fuel pump to the #3 location, I am sure it could be done easily if you ordered the correct parts. I do know that one owner moved his pump, or maybe the filter, up into the fairing of the LeMans... although I don't recall who. In my opinion, after going through my extensive relocation project.... the best solution is to be patient and source a salvage 03+ tank(with internal pump/filter), have it painted, and install it. It's a much cleaner solution, IMHO better looking tank, and solves all problems with the earlier system.. without the headache of relocating the external system. al
  21. ...naw, not....... the FJR Thanks for the quick review, but honestly, the FJR does nothing for me However, since you and I both have ridden FJs(not FJR).... and you've apparently still got one, I was curious how the FJ and LeMans fared back-to-back It's been so long since I had my '89 FJ1200 now, that I was just curious about your long-term relationship with both bikes has cemented your opinion of how they compare and contrast. al
  22. So Joe, ....what ever happened with this? Did the "hybrid" Cycle Cat solution work out? Photos? etc.....? al
  23. From the thread(poll): http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...18&hl=pods&st=0 Mine: You can perhaps see them better here: Also of interest, I still wonder if these would fit the EFI V11 bikes: Sport City Velocity Tubes UPDATE: Heard back from the Sport City folks that these will not fit a 2V bike.
  24. ....she'll have an automatic transmission?
