Would replacing the OEM "mini" relays as used OEM with the larger "cube" automotive relays help with the ongoing relay issues that many are having over the last 20+ years? As in cars, one sees both these "mini" and larger "cube" relays mixed in use, clearly to account for higher electrical demands. Obviously the larger relay(s) would take up more room, but perhaps only certain high current circuits would benefit, so not all would need to be changed. In theory, one could even build (or maybe one exists) an adapter cable that could plug into the existing "mini" socket and extend to a remote location for the larger relay.

Andreani upgrades for V11 OEM Marzocchi forks
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
I'm not sure I read Luciano's response to say they would provide anything for free, but you certainly could ask them and discuss a possible quid-pro-quo situation I suppose -
As I mentioned in the "Ohlins service recommendation?" topic, I had reached out to Andreani USA to see if they had any upgrades, parts, or service for the OEM Guzzi V11 Marzocchi forks for the Sport/Lemans. I have Ohlins forks, so this wouldn't apply to me, however I have seen several posts here over time where some were wondering if Andreani provided that service. So since I was already corresponding with them about shock service, I thought I'd ask. Below is my inquiry and their response, which as usual so far has been very speedy and friendly: So, as you can see from Luciano's response, if someone interested in pursuing this perhaps had a set of take-off Marzocchi V11 Sport/Lemans forks to loan to Andreani, they may be able to see what they can do or develop. I let him know that I'd share this with the community to see if someone had a set of forks and were interested.

The V11 Sport/Lemans is now considered a "Historic Model"

This is another nice recent review with some perspective after all these years: -
The V11 Sport/Lemans is now considered a "Historic Model"
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in 24/7 V11
As an aside, it is interesting to hear this younger rider comment about his considerations coming into turns and downshifting with a lack of traction control and ABS. While that is absolutely true, and always has been long before TC and ABS were even available technologies, it does make me wonder how spoiled modern riders are with these technologies, and if their riding skills are now such that they would be really disadvantaged and more at risk on an older bike without these technologies than an older rider who grew up without. Conversely, I wonder if older riders would ride "slower" in some cases with or without those technologies present, because they grew up riding a little more conservatively without those automated safety nets? -
The V11 Sport/Lemans is now apparently considered a "Historic Model" ... well, according to Wikipedia at least I guess that is fair, since the oldest V11 Sport is now 26 years old if it were built in 1997 for the 1998 model year. Even the newest model in 2004 would be 19 years old. Hard to believe, but how time flies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Moto_Guzzi_motorcycles And the link from the main article takes one to the French entry for the V11. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_Guzzi_V11 (Here is a link translated to English via Google: https://fr-m-wikipedia-org.translate.goog/wiki/Moto_Guzzi_V11?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp ) And so, we have the following review, covering what is now considered an "Italian Classic". It is interesting watching this younger fellow describe the V11 in terms of a vintage motorcycle, especially commenting on how he's never ridden a motorcycle without features like traction control and ABS. In contrast, I've never ridden a motorcycle with those features!

Ohlins service recommendation?
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
Fast Bike Industries (Hendersonville, NC) was acquired by Andreani USA, and just as they were with FBI, you'll download their service form, complete it with what services you would like performed, then ship the entire shock to them. They of course are happy to discuss the service options and costs with you prior to your shipping the shock to them. Fast Bike Industries Andreani USA | Hendersonville NC | Facebook https://www.cyclenews.com/2023/01/article/andreani-opens-u-s-distribution-arm/ I haven't actually shipped the shock to them yet, but they were very good with communicating quickly and very friendly. BTW, noting some other related comments by V11 owners with the OEM Marzocchi forks looking for performance and comfort upgrades, and wondering if Andreani may make parts or a service available for those forks; I've reached out to them to ask if that is something they currently make available or might consider looking into. I'll let everyone know in a dedicated thread if they respond affirmatively. -
Although I really am not enamored with the name about which I'd have to roll my eyes if anyone asked about the tire, has anyone checked out the Dunlop Mutant tire? It has some pretty impressive reviews, and seems to be a great all-around(er) tire, especially if your riding includes a lot of wet and poor roads. https://www.dunlopmotorcycletires.com/tire-line/mutant/

You beat me to it I was going to suggest water cooling next!

The Centauro controls mostly appear to be a simple bolt-on affair other than making and adding a small extension piece for the shifter, noted in the quoted excerpt below. They look to be something in-between the stock V11 Sport high-ish pegs and the very low and forward Motratech controls. The real trick is finding all the Centauro parts. But there are a few bits & pieces on eBay right now, so they do show up used and even NOS. One could probably call some of the prominent MG parts houses and they may have some old sets. And here you go, a write-up from a former forum member: Modifying a 2002+ Le Mans' ergos (obairlann.net)

This topic has been raised numerous times over the now two decades of this forum's existence, and there have been a handful of examples where owners have tracked down a paint or powder-coating color that approximates the OEM "anodized" red finish on some of the V11 Sport/Lemans models "porkchop" (sideplate) and valve covers. Since neither the porkchops nor the valve covers were actually anodized, it proved difficult to find a finish that would replicate the OEM faux anodized appearance. And unfortunately the finish on the "porkchops" didn't prove very durable, and the finish on the valve covers often faded as well. So the search for an appropriate finish started almost immediately. And BTW, I was told by an anodizing shop that one can't just get those parts anodized due to the type of casting... at least not the valve covers. Well, I recently obtained a powder coating sample from Prismatic Powders, called unsurprisingly "Anodized Red", that looks remarkably close to the original OEM finish before it faded and cracked: https://www.prismaticpowders.com/shop/powder-coating-colors/PPB-5936/anodized-red ANODIZED RED (Item: PPB-5936) I haven't applied this finish to a part yet, but the sample looks very good. So if you are looking for a finish to repair or replicate the OEM V11 "anodized" red color, this might be an option to consider.

I have the MPH and Jean Marc/Daes Mototech risers, and will be toying with both to see which is the best fit for me. I also have some Centauro and the Motratech foot controls, and similarly will be trying both at some point.
-
@MartyNZ What was the... But yep, my "guess" is that a previous owner wanted to keep the relays from vibrating and/or was concerned about water getting into the relays. Definitely an inelegant solution for either reason, but it may have been effective
-
Thanks, I now have two different bar-riser and foot-control options to evaluate and mix & match to hopefully find a good geometry for me I had a set of the MPH risers many years ago, and actually sold them a few years back, but they were an incomplete set with just the risers alone. This set grabbed my attention because they came with the brake & clutch lines, instructions, and I guess are a later batch that have the MG eagle engraving which makes them look OEM Regardless of which bar riser set I use, I also likely needed the lines, so this was good timing.

In case a prospective buyer that is familiar with the bike asks him about it, I let the seller know via eBay that the mileage is possibly closer to 28k versus the odometer indicated 16k, pointing him to the listing here in 2019. To get a sense of the current market for these bikes it will be interesting to see if it sells for that price and condition. -
Mounting Oil Cooler Grill
al_roethlisberger replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
And much like the multiple locations that MG mounted the V11 fuel pump/filter, the photo below shows a 2002 Lemans with the fuel pump "out front" and the oil cooler mounted lower than what we see in the other above examples, using different brackets. In this arrangement, I don't think one could mount the OEM oil cooler grille due to the addition of the tab for mounting the horn above the cooler, or it would at least be very tight. The variations are always interesting. From this thread: -

Here is at least one previous owner of RM #49 and forum member. It looks like it has lost some of its aftermarket accessories between then and now. Of particular note from the previous owner in the ad below: The eBay ad is listing the bike as having 16k miles, so the current owner likely is unaware that the bike probably has close to 28k miles in actuality. -

Here's Rosso Mandello on eBay, #49, that interestingly has a black versus silver oil cooler grille: So as usual, MG standards can definitely vary, probably day by day on the production line https://www.ebay.com/itm/165957723074 -
