Whooaa Scuroo! that hand's been played before! anyhow, sideways at 150mph thru Douglas trumps prattin around in a car park. mine I think! What news from Morocco? Where did you get too? How was the Quota? KB -
Pass some clean underpants, matron... watch the passenger's eyes...

Yeah, the clamps are shit! Been meaning to change them - anyone point me to a source for decent quality alternative, so I don't have to find it myself? Thanks.

MG kit came with different hangers (think they may be 1100 sport)which moved pillion pegs - some have mounted these cans lower to clear sidebags. I have kit. When I fitted it, it didn't run perfect - felt lumpy, like it was running rich - I also fitted a Stucchi x-over. I had a shop (MotoCorsa) fit PC111, set it all up & dyno it. After that runs like a fast freight train. To me it seems much improved through 4k flatspot, more power, more torque, more noise...but - I never had it set up on a dyno before fitting bits, so I don't know how well it can run stock. Same re PC111 - as I say I know nothing about FI/ECU's etc - there's plenty discussion here on that if you search. Cans are much, much lighter than stock. They will dent easily. KB

I don't know what a colour tune test is. It's not running right & plugs are coked up? I wouldn't think richness would be to do with leaded/unleaded fuel. More likely carb issue (jet sizes, needle & screw settings. Also check that your choke cables/slides aren't sticking & holding choke(s)on. Are both sides the same? Correct/good plugs? Ignition timing OK? I found the big carbs on LM's do need regular setting up to keep sweet. KB

Sorted. Proof of pudding soon.

Yeah, I guess it takes me about 10yrs to come around to anything...

Treachery . Forsaken a Tonti AND a Spiney for that jazzy strumpet! Oh well I wish you well - be interested to hear how you get on. I'd like a new Guzzi one day but wonder if they've gone too "modern" - revs at the expense of bottom-mid range grunt & style over function - for my tastes. Mind it would be nice to have real rear suspension. Why do the frame spars run so high over the motor? KB

Welcome PeteTW - interesting views! I guess, for a prehistoric pile of iron they are pretty nimble! They are a real relaxing fast road bike & a joy to ride, if you prefer smooth, flowing style over point & squirt. V11 is one of the last genuine, old-school bikes rather than a pastiche of same. Nice looking bike. Twiggers are good people & know Guzzi. KB

Is rattle there stationary or just with bike moving?

Rear Wheel Bearing Failure / Centerstand Questions
Baldini replied to rebelpacket's topic in Technical Topics
It may be that the spacer is OK & bearings failed for some other reason. But, if the spacer is too short & the bearing inner/outer races are consequently misaligned when axle is tightened - don't plan on a long trip! Good luck! KB -
Rear Wheel Bearing Failure / Centerstand Questions
Baldini replied to rebelpacket's topic in Technical Topics
(1)...What do you mean when you say "between registers"? (2)...Is it happening because of the spacer in the wheel between the two bearings?... (1) I presume "between registers" refers to between the faces that the bearings sit up against in the hub. (2) Yes this spacer, part no 6 in diagram. -

Do you have F comp? Protected no claims? Cover inc Riding gear? Personal Injury? KB
-
Hi David, from what you say, that's a write off. Add up motor parts, tank, bodywork, pedals/levers, etc etc at new prices + shop labour. But you're right re no-win - they'll likely bump up you're premium even if you have protected no-claimns. Unless this is no fault, which I'm guessing it isn't? But it may be worth a claim if you have fully comp? They'll offer you peanuts but send them a couple adverts for similar bikes & you should get similar value - £4-5k? & then, in for a penny, in for a pound - you've got helmet, leathers, boots, gloves - min £1k? etc etc. Dunno if you got any injury cover inc? Then make a deal to buy back bike. It can make sense to go this route, but you have to have fully comp or a claim against a third party, & be absolutely sure you know full extent of damage & claim for everything. KB
-
BFG will surely know, but looks like a write-off to me, no question. If it's brought back to pre-accident you've got all the motor stuff + exhaust, bellypan + oil cooler? + brake pedal, probably various cycle parts & I doubt the levers, bars etc etc escaped unmarked. Replacing anything that's even got minor damage with new will total up big. Forks? Frame? Dunno if BFG has Comprehensive cover anyhow? Lots have TPFT (third party, fire & theft). I've bought write offs back off insurance co., cheap, done them up myself - it can work out very well, but you have to be sure you have fully estimated damage: with the BMW I mentioned, I hadn't realised frame was twisted til I came to put it back together & settlement was done & dusted. Do you have a claim against a third party for this BFG or is it down to you? KB

Rear Wheel Bearing Failure / Centerstand Questions
Baldini replied to rebelpacket's topic in Technical Topics
I measured across faces of housings in hub & matched to that. Spacer might start out correct length but may be compressed when torquing axle. My understanding is wheel bearings should be C3 type which have slightly increased internal clearance. KB -
Rear Wheel Bearing Failure / Centerstand Questions
Baldini replied to rebelpacket's topic in Technical Topics
As Docc says, workshop manual gives 120Nm .... but measured at: Rear wheel spindle screw (housing side) I understand this to mean that 120Nm is to be measured at axle head, not at nut. I don't get this - shouldn't torque figure be same measured at either end or is there some friction in assembly that affects reading? It doesn't greatly matter to me, I just do nut up good & tight & since fitting correct length spacer have not had problems, but I'm curious as to why they spec side? Anyone? KB -
My axle has a couple of tight spots as it comes out - the axle isn't a constant thickness along it's length. I start it by tapping with a soft hammer, then either drift or use a drawhammer on the axle head which works well. Grease axle on refitting & don't forget internal spacer drive side. Also worth cleaning & greasing bearing in outside of drivebox (behind swingarm). Welcome to the forum. KB

Rear Wheel Bearing Failure / Centerstand Questions
Baldini replied to rebelpacket's topic in Technical Topics
Had rear wheel been out immediately prior to this happening? Some V11Sports have had brake side bearing fail when spacer between bearings is too short - typically after having wheel out (I believe it can be compressed when tightening axle nut). Did you check that spacer was a snug fit to new bearings? Should be light interference fit between inner races. If not, misaligned races will fail quickly - I had replacement bearing go within a couple of miles when I had this issue. KB -
But that is the genius of the Guzzi design - sacrificial leg protectors. Better than a bobbin. KB
-
Oh no... what the ****? Did it just slide or did the head hit something other than the road? (edit - just read in other post - hit a kerbstone). Whatever, you'll have to pull down that cylinder & check everything for damage but I guess that's not telling you anything you don't already know... Any frame/cycle part damage? I hit a truck with a BMW head once - head was fine, frame was bent. You hurt? Good luck. KB

That link is to the first programme in a series of 3. It is original, fascinating stuff & beautifully made. Second episode (shown last Mon) is on there too. I haven't seen the ITV4 TT stuff. I'll check on ITV player see if I can get it. Thanks. I noticed there was a TT prog on 9pm tonight. I watched their coverage of TT last year & it was excellent.
