Well if you don't know nothing about it, don't f***in pretend that you do! And he's gonna fix your bike? Have you considered asking him to pay for the parts, then get the bike to someone who knows what they're doing to get them in & fix it? I know nothing about procedures but it might be worth talking to Trading Standards at council, citizens/consumer advice bureau - dunno wether that's still going - & there's small claims court. Sometimes it just ain't worth the energy tho. KB

!Update 10/15/11! Shifting still bad .Almost killed me !

In any mechanism; marginal clearance when cold could become interference fit when hot. The neutral sensor is located in the sideplate & works off the shift mechanism fitted on that plate. If there is a problem with the mechanism sticking, this may well show itself at neutral indicator light? Given that the spring/post is an acknowledged issue (subject of MG service bulletin for frames before KT111435-KT112350), I would replace/correct this as a matter of course. It may be that function could be improved by correct adjustment of cammed screw at sideplate, which should be secured in position by locknut. I never fiddled with that & I can't recall the way it works, but there has been discussion of it here before & a search might turn something up. :!: I am not a mechanic or engineer, please take anything I say as only a (mostly ignorant) enthusiast's attempt at helping... That there are 2 separate s/a pins is elementary Guzzi knowledge. I am astonished that any Guzzi dealer would not know this. It's unclear to me whether the dealer did the work or you did it yourself. If your dealer left your bike in that condition causing that failure, I think you should pursue it with them for at the very least the cost of parts. Things could have worked out worse. Glad you're OK. If it don't feel right, it probably isn't. I found out same many years ago on a different bike: steering got very sluggish but, tho I slowed a bit, I ploughed on thinking maybe it was cos I'd lowered the bars earlier that day ... In fact I had a nail in the front tyre. Tyre blew, I landed in the dirt at about 60mph wearing jeans & a t shirt. I was flown home looking like Michelin Man. Good luck in getting it sorted. I don't know what exactly needs to be done, but a good Guzzi dealer should be able to fix, trouble is there aren't that many of them - if you're on the South Coast, Corsa Italiana (SW London) & Moto Corsa (Dorset)come to mind. They would be - but I never heard of this happening & ime isn't any more likely to happen on a Guzzi than on any other vehicle with a chain cam motor. KB
-
??? I never heard that before - you sure? I dunno re the V11's but Tontis would eat their way thru the cases when they got slack enough, not heard of snapping tho. Stock tensioner was nonsense. Tensioner on V11 is more...sophisticated, but I don't know how effective long term - I have no experience with them. KB

It could still be associated w clutch/flywheel assy. It sounds like something that rotates rather than something that goes up & down. Maybe someone left a spanner in there! Was it all working good for you before noise? KB
-
I haven't used the Metzelers but as far as I know the RM has the smaller rear rim & should use a 170 or 160 not a 180. A wider tyre will slow down turn in & make front/rear turn rate less consistent in feel. KB
-
Great pictures Belfast! You have a beautiful country.
-
Not the clutch? That would be my first thought - clutch/flywheel esp the very last little tinkle you hear...or starter... but not that either... I take it bike is in neutral? You tried clutch in/out? It's twin plate model? Cam chain? Sounds horrible. Have you tried touching a screwdriver handle to your ear with blade against motor to isolate the source of the noise? KB

Yes, I only see 2 pages, mind it is very late...

Sounds typical of pawl spring failure. -

Looks like a photoshop knock up to me - that's a Griso seat/tail & front end isn't it? & Motor... And a few more bits beside, dodgy shadows, 1200Sport Hdlt etc - Griso, Breva, or 1200Sport bits. I would show it to the rest of the guys at the club, but wouldn't know how to present it. Could you drop it in to them? BTW - that is some powerful & inspiring punctuation. I am a great admirer. KB
-
So, you are not interested in punctuation then?
-
Hey!!! Where's everyone gone... ? I find punctuation...fascinating...I don't know the rules. Did you ever see that book about it? I only read the first few pages, it was a bit boring...Ah! well, d'ye fancy another beer Belfast? ...Hey! Belfast!...BELFAST!!...baahhh! He's gone to sleep... It's quiet down in this part of the forum isn't it?

Sorry, I was too busy concentrating on placing the commas.

Who am I to question the wisdom of The Power which brought me here to this small gap in the hedge, to offer distant assistance to our colonial cousin, in his tireless fight from his desert fastness for all those things that we, together hold dear.

"Pretty!??? Maybe the V7 Classic is pretty - but in "falsies & make up"? To call this pretty is an abuse of the language. Cafe Racer??? A cafe racer is stripped down to function not tarted up with bling! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quy4HEBBhJ0&feature=related The clueless bufoons at Guzzi HQ have outdone themselves - a pimped up shiney pretender for wannabe yuppie outlaw cafe types to mince about on massaging their egos - & what's so sad is Guzzi are PROUD of it. They should hang their heads in shame, it's an embarassment...." ...a view of the new V7 Racer not widely appreciated by inhabitants of that other place... ...stylistically I take my lead from the Great Antipodean Master of Vituperol who is a constant inspiration.
