  1. Thank you for that . I don't know. Family always doing something - it'll be last minute thing if I do, but I'd like to go over. KB
  2. Antonio, I'm not being puberal, really I'm not. I see members who have more points than they could use in a lifetime & I know the likes of us will never match them - I only ask for what is rightfully mine. As for BFG, I'm sure he cares nothing for points, he has bigger eggs to scramble. KB
  3. Aw come on lads, play the game, where's my point? KB
  4. I have same thing happening. Can't see source. Not impressed. KB
  5. The problem has shown up in a few Scuras. Out of 800 (?) produced, we have seen here less than 10 I think. So there's a lot of Scuras riding around on original clutch! The Scura clutch is a single plate unit with an alu flywheel. There have been a few instances of flywheel fracturing & in worst cases disintegrating in use, flying apart taking cases with it. Guzzi deny there's any problem although have fixed some bikes on warranty! My information is that the Scura unit is a basically a RAM part but with some components, inc flywheel, sourced elsewhere (cheaper most likely) & this is cause of problem. Some owners have replaced stock clutch off their own bat as a precaution. I put in a RAM single plate unit, others go with std V11 twin plate which is pretty bullet proof far as I know. I replaced mine cos of damage I had seen on this site & because I had personal knowledge of one of the bikes that failed. When I replaced it, at around 20k miles, my clutch was working great - it's a lovely clutch to use, light & positive. It showed no symptoms of failure. When I pulled it down my alu flywheel showed no obvious cracks or damage. The friction plate looked in very good condition. It may be that this potential problem exists in a very small number of Scuras, or it may be common to all. I don't know of any Scuras on high mileages - so don't know if clutch can last (not saying there aren't any original clutches on 100k - just I dn't know about them). I don't know of any common factor in the history, mileage or type of use of the bikes that failed, nor any precursor to failure. I know one of the bikes which failed (J O'S) & it did have an unusually noisy clutch (you could hear it clearly above the clutches of two other Scuras sat a standstill in neutral). It was not ridden particularly hard. If you search Scura clutch etc. there's plenty of stuff.... There's also plenty of discussion re Ohlins set up which you might find interesting. That's a great looking bike you have. IMO Scura is best looking of V11 series, & a lovely bike to ride. KB
  6. Obscene! - why? Re-styling some bits of mass produced metal ? I think the motor in the pix looks good. You're comparing an aesthetic choice (well, apart from the negligable reduction in cooling) with change to technology/function/performance - although I guess if someone wanted to do that - that'd be fine too. It's their bike. Exposed flywheel anyone? KB
  7. Oh joy. Dastardly & Muttley - together again... KB
  8. You sure about that? KB
  9. You sure about that? KB
  10. Yeh, I could do that... KB
  11. Letting it go wouldn't bring any attention. But didn't you see the little yellow funnyface? Easy pickings here for a dedicated wind-up merchant. But my point is KEEP IT OUT OF THE TECH FORUM - sorry for shouting again John (try turning the hearing aid down a bit) - Tech area is a unique & valuable resource that's lately becoming an embarrassing sludge cos of the reams of repetitive, irrelevant, personal heckling. KB
  12. ALMOST EVERY TECHNICAL DISCUSSION DESCENDS INTO JUVENILE BICKERING. MANY CAN'T BE ARSED WADING THRU THIS STUFF TO GET TO THE RELEVANT BITS & GIVE UP ON THE FORUM. IT'S QUIET HERE - & IMV THAT'S WHY. FORUM RULES SAY NO NAME CALLING. IF YOU CAN'T STICK TO THAT, GO PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE. THANK YOU. THANKS JAAP FOR CONTINUING PROVIDING THE PLAYGROUND. HAPPY NEW YEAR. KB
  13. Nothin to do with me mate. KB
  14. Hmm... . . . Grasped the hairy man by the bald end again eh? . . . If you read my post you will note that I make no reference to specific dimensions, rakes or angles. How can you "lengthen", "indecrease" or "keep" any spec when it is not spec'd? As to paint colours . . . there is no mention in the original post that the "mate" is anything other than his original colour . . . which is . . . IMHO . . . highly unlikely to be RED. KB
  15. Your mate obviously needs help. To check for stability try this simple test: Construct a ramp sloping down towards the shed door. Place your mate at the top of the ramp & release him with a slight push in the direction of the door. Check that he tracks straight & true. Curing this sort of instability could simply be changing to a different different pair of sandals, but sometimes the problem lies deeper & it is necessary to place the "mate" in a rehabilitation unit for evaluation. A good V11 with correctly adjusted suspension should be totally stable whilst firmly held vertical at a standstill. Obviously as speed increases stability may become an issue, but the problem is usually down to user input. I hope this helps. KB
  16. Well I don't mind that stuff if it contains any wit, originality, imagination or even some weird perspective - the juvenile, repetetive, humourless drivel seemingly infecting every technical topic here recently just means I don't bother checking in so much - & I reckon I'm not the only one. Shame for me cos I always liked the global perspective this forum has & the odd mix of characters, weather & time zones. Bring back Captain Nemo - come on Jaap we know it was you all along.... KB
  17. Leak does sound like timing cover gasket. This is common & I suspect due to poorly fitted gaskets on assembly. Mine did it - I think I just tightened up the case screws. Whatever, not a major issue. But...check for any evidence of crash damage - If the leak is near the front right motor mount bolt, vulnerable in a crash on the V11, you should check for casing damage around the boss. There have been a few who have broken cases here even in low speed mishaps - but most likely it is the gasket. Did vendor explain speedo replacement - got original? KB
  18. Not all: 02 Scura still good. 20k miles hardly ridden in bad weather or salt, but I don't think that's why. I think it is related to poor prep on cases or between coats (is there a basecoat/primer below the finish?) on some bikes at application. Heard a theory once blamed moisture below coating at aplication for poor adhesion. Bike sounds good, as said above - check it all works, looks genuine, no crash damage. Why was speedo replaced? Is original available? KB
  19. That's lovely Guy. It sits just right - great job KB
  20. I guess it's subjective (& I have never tried 190) but for me based on experiencing 170 & 180 there is no way on earth a 190 is going to handle as well as a 180 (or even better a 170) on the 5.5" rim on V11S. IMV the closer the match of widths front to rear, the more linear & progressive will turn in feel. I guess any decent tyre once leant over will feel OK - it's the transition from upright to leant over that is the issue. Steering varies by tyre type/profile, but on any given rear tyre a 170 will give quicker steering & more progressive feel than a 180 or 190. Anyhow, tho a taller rear tyre would speed up steering by changing geometery, a 190/50 is nominal ht of 95, whereas a 180/55 is 99 - so 180 is actually taller. Last I looked at a tyre manufacture guide (Bridgestone I think) - they only listed 170 & 180 as correct for 5.5" rim. Guzzi spec 180. Why go for a 190? - I guess after a lifetime on moped size tyres a 170 is plenty butch enough for me.... But - one question - with a 170 stretched over a 5.5" rim, will you have less tread/lean angle available than say with a 190 more "pinched" in profile on same rim? ie: a narrower tyre offers a flatter profile than a wider one on given rim size, & therefore less available lean angle (you will run out of tread earlier on the narrower tyre)??? KB
  21. The logic of then buying a Guzzi confounds me... Can someone tell me what's happened (I am one of the broadband deprived, so even if I waited a couple of hours for it to download the vid, I'd probably lose the connection before I could play it...)....I presume Harley has pulled the plug on Buell - if so, you gotta wonder was that always the plan? Why now? KB
