Can any onyone who has suffered this failure please post pictures & relevant details here or on the other current thread. Or pm me. I am chasing Guzzi. It is possible that the factory are unaware of the no of failures as many occur out of warranty. Thanks. KB

I found clutchless up changes on the Scura felt real good, better than any change using the clutch. Just slots straight in. Felt like this was how the box should be used. Only did it much on trackday (probably only 3/4/5). You gotta be on it to get it right - relaxed don't do it. I'm also worried it may cause wear but it's hard to see how something that feels so slick can do any harm? KB

Same here. I just do em up to what feels right, didn't use thread lock. KB

Ran it backed right off for first year, to get used to bike - now 4 or 5 out of 20 clix feels good (Ohlins).

Related to breaking springs? The further the ratchet arm goes towards the casing the more stress on the spring. Set up right, in conjunction w/eccentric screw on shift plate this should give more positive change & least stress on spring? No doubt Guzzi'll be mailing out these little gizmos to us any day now... Gallo have you measured the pawl arm spring boss? KB

One of the failures (Roberto) we have seen pictures of, clearly had the steel ring in place. The sheer was around the outside edge of this. John O'S's broke exact same place tho photos show it already dismantled. We have not seen photos of the other centres. Is it possible that this ring actually raises stress around it's edge at an already weak point in the flywheel? KB

To control the pawl arm travel for each bike to optimise change, in conjunction with lower adj screw? You wouldn't think it necessary even with Guzzi's manuf tolerances. Can just imagine these being set up properly 4pm on a Friday..."sod it let's just put in this bit of rod..." or perhaps they ran out....But given the problems in this area it's interesting. Wonder what earlier V11's had here. Strange that parts diag doesn't show either plain pin or eccentric. KB

Shockproof Heavy is red.

Belfast, Looks like Gallo's bike has an adjustable stop for the pawl arm. Interesting !! Like yours, mine has a plain dowel there. The parts diagram does not show either! Anyone else got one of these? The eccentric adjuster for the shift plate is there - you can see it in his photo. What # is your Scura Gallo (not that it necessarily means anything)? Has the plate been off before? KB

That looks like the end of the pawl spring. Normally they snap at 90deg but your's has broken further round. You can see in other pick spring is broken. What were the other fragments you found in the case? KB

Forks: The forks are Road & Track 43mm's, same supplied as aftermarket. I replaced seals at 7k & 12k & they've just gone again at 16k. These latest were the new style w/extended lip - got even less miles! Springs 10N/mm (std 8.5). I stuck w/ R&T43 oil but increased air gap to 100mm. Shock: Ohlins list 46HRCS as aftermarket fitment has remote preload adj (S) so I guess ours would be 46 HRC (Ext res =H, Adj reb =R, Adj comp =C). Presumably they do not supply 46HRC set up for V11. I have 100N/mm (85 std) spring but may go for next stiffer in future. Cycle World changed shim stack "reducing comp damping by approx 5%" see http://www.cycleworld.com/xp6/CycleWorld/t...uzzi.xml?body=2 W/heavier springs I reduced damping - b (now 6-12 clix out) & f - & got a better ride. As someone said here, it's working on the spring rather than the damping - damping's to control speed. Setting comp damping for comfort means bike moves around a bit more. At first this is a bit disconcerting but only becomes a problem if pushing really hard on bumpy roads or you can't trust your tyres. I use Guzzi book pressures, which are lower than manuf rec'd. I still haven't got round to revalve. But I'm sure it is way to go. Good luck. KB

Paul, Improved gearchange. Some say noticeably lower gbox temp but I haven't checked. See various discussions here on search. KB

Geography v politics. Any word means nothing more than the meaning two people agree to give it. KB

RED LINE HEAVY SHOCKPROOF is what I put in ( they also do a Shockproof Light). From Demon Tweeks - you can get it mail order from them: 01978 664474. KB

Rear brake's dragging?

No - just another side of the same coin.

CG125's a great little bike - that's why they're still around - go well, handle (ish) & are quite hard to fall off. If you think the CG's dull did you ever try a CD200 (Benly)? I'd've thought it's a matter of whatever good small, light, reliable bike you can get locally for a reasonable price. Off road's a good place to learn... KB PS how did she get on at Glastonbury....?

Contrary to the flow of things, much of British law is still based in common sense. As Martin says there are laws governing sale of goods & possibly, still, government funded bodies to help punters under those laws. There is right & wrong whatever. And consumer businesses still rely much on goodwill & image. KB

Guess Todd's looking at shifting a few PC111's...

Thanks Dan. I am trying to get somewhere with MG re these clutches. I've emailed dealers/MG customer services with photos. I don't expect any immediate response but, should it be necessary, we can at least prove that we made our concerns known to MG & that they were aware of these failures. I'm no lawyer, but if there is a known generic fault with serious safety implications & MG do not act to sort it then surely they are negligent. I am going to prepare a detailed list on this to give to Moto Guzzi (in the first instant). I'd like to collate as much info as I can & I'd be grateful for any details of failures (Frame #'s, photos, circumstances, mileage etc) - pm me or post here. And can we keep this thread to the point so's if I want to direct anyone to it or print stuff off etc I don't get reams of irrelevant junk - Thanks. Cheers, KB

Timnic - did your clutch break too? Hlancee, with yours I make that at least seven documented here, Paul reckons it's more...Can you tell us were flywheel bolts tight when you stripped it down? Have you checked the other threads? - not sure, but it might be easier to get at info if we keep to same threads to discuss. (See"Scura Clutch" to see photos of another failure same as yours). What # is your Scura? I know the ltd ed #'s are probably arbitrary but it may tell us something? It may be worth trying to collate frame #'s. I still intend to try & get Guzzi to do something on this. KB

Yes. It's the tail off a Fastback Commando. I like the doubletakes, & I like the connection. Thanks for the HTM details Guzzirider & Jaap! The Germans really seem seem sorted with Guzzi bits. KB

...it wasn't metalflake pink was it? ...this one was - Fastback tail cut a bit on a homemade pan. I always liked em but thought on the Norton they hung out too far back w/the dual seat. KB
