MOtO, What is the current position re the selector pawl spring? Does the smaller size boss remove the issue of breaking springs? What has Guzzi said? Thanks, KB
  4. I agree you/wife should definitely test a Cali/Jackal or even an older Tonti (T3/4/SP/G5 or auto Convert). You might be surprised - They're a lovely relaxing ride. Make you smile. Comfortable, good brakes/handling & don't feel fast but pull top gear from nothing. Ask em on Wildguzzi board. Some (later) hydraulic lifter problems, some single clutch probs? But get a sorted one & it'll go forever, take you anywhere. I never used to think twice about taking my ol Tonti touring, two up, camping, loads of gear, motorways to sand & gravel - got as far as Southern Morrocco, thing was if any little thing did go wrong you could usually fix it. BMW's work real well but have no character. Tonti: whatever you want it to be! KB
  5. Martin, So this is how you spend our taxes.... Damn this lack of resources - I scoured my Ladybird Book of Motorcycles several times & couldn't find any of those models... KB
  6. Andy, Ratchet arm is listed as 04 23 51 01 (as you give for arm w/15mm boss). My understanding is that this is the correct arm/boss. Spring is listed as 04 23 83 00 (as you give for 19mm ID spring). All springs I have seen have been around 16.9mm ID. Where do you get those other part#'s from? Is the 19mm ID spring the replacement, or is it the broken original (in which case the ID would have opened up)? If you had 19mm ID spring on 16.25mm boss, it would give similar clearance to correct (?) 16.9mm spring on 15mm boss so binding would not have been an issue. My breakages were small springs on large boss (as I thought was the case for others), caused (I hope) by spring becoming coilbound in use. KB

    Err...u wot? Please explain? KB
  8. I think the clutches that broke were fixed under warranty? Out of maybe 1,500 bikes we heard of 4 failures? That's less than 0.3%. Warranty on my bike was up last month. In 11,000 miles I had gearbox pawl spring break twice, two rear wheel bearings go (spacer too short), fork seals go, brake torque arm rubber deteriorate, tacho mist. Couple of the problems took a bit of looking round to fix but nothing major really. Bike was off the road for maybe 3 weeks with pawl spring problem (wasn't sure why it broke - fix is now known - I hope! - so it would now be a 2 hour job). All parts were replaced under warranty (Thanks to Corsa Italiana, London). I would buy a new Guzzi again, or an old one, but I'd be keeping this one n'all. Fancy a Cali/Jackal actually.... Ballacraine, Does your bike have a problem? KB
  9. Mike, This may be of interest: http://morini.com.au/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1242 Bike looks great. Should be a lovely ride. Let us know how it turns out. Be interested to hear more. KB
  10. I saw a Roundhead motor turned sideways in a Featherbed frame using a Norton box once - does that count? KB
  11. Maybe she wanted the Sportster ?
  12. Was this a left (brake side) rear? There's been a few of these go. I had two go quickly. In my case & probably others it was due to bearing spacer being wrong length. I got parts on warranty so Guzzi are aware of it. I think it is admirable of Mr MOtO to argue his case here. And very interesting. KB
  13. Yeah, some sort of light dual purpose/trail bike & let her start off road. She'll learn loads more about machine control if she's not scared sh*tless of hitting tarmac or other vehicles... KB
  14. All joints on exhaust system, inc front balance pipe tight/leakfree?
  15. Not sure if it's relevant to you Martin cos my riding's very different. Don't commute, hardly ever go on motorways, mostly just ride for fun, & only in the rain if I get caught out. 3,300 miles on original BT020's by which time front handling was alarming. Just about get 3,000 miles on Diablos, good even wear across tread front & back, pos get another couple hundred miles on front but I like to change as a pair. Is your front wearing on centreline? It's most likely down to the braking. Shellgrip is real grippy stuff = wear. Usually fronts wear sides more than centre, & most always last longer than a rear. KB
  16. Al, I argued this when I first joined this forum & I ain't changed now. Maybe I'm an exception but after 20years on Tontis I bought a new Scura. I love it. Compared with other bikes it's not much different to my Tonti. But compared with the Tonti it's lost something, the basic components aren't quite so solid. Mostly the frame doesn't have the structural integrity of the Tonti. I don't see why, given decent leadership, Guzzi couldn't carry the Tonti thru into a modern bike. Ducati still use a steel trellis frame. No, there's definitely something gone from Guzzi's vision. I'm an old git, but I don't see why everyone has to be chasing a market, pushing a "brand". I don't see why companies have to expand, why economies have to "grow". Make a good product, forget the bullshit, people will buy it. KB
  17. much more noise with Stucchi x over? KB
  18. Well, it means they expand. They get bigger so they gotta sell more to feed themselves. There's something about Guzzis that is to do with who they are & where they are. It may be that that is going now, maybe that is the only way the name will survive, as another lifestyle brand choice. KB
  19. For twenty years I've ridden used Guzzis & maintained them myself. My first Tonti is still on the road. When it came time 2 years ago I wanted a new bike I looked at Aprilia, Triumph, Japs etc but in the end, cos of those years on them I could only buy a Guzzi. So eventually, least off me, MG got some payback, I love em. I'd never seen MotoGuzzi as a corporation, it was a small company making motorcycles. With Aprilia, now Piaggio, I guess it is part of a corporation, a Brand. To me that's a shame, but I guess that's the ways it goes. What effect do you think it has, Tim? KB
  20. Do you have std or aftermarket cans? KB
  21. It's either made by RAM or it is a Guzzi copy of a RAM clutch. If you try a search on this forum for "RAM" & "Single Plate Clutch" you should find a load of stuff inc photos. I never managed to find a web site for RAM. There's a site for MG Cycle (?) who supply RAM stuff in US, with descriptions/photos. Be aware there is said to be a recent updated version of the RAM V11 clutch with thicker material at the centre. KB
  22. TRY MOTO GUZZI - THE FARMER'S BIKE! Should work? KB Down on the farm, Cymru
  23. Paul, The plate above the gbox, between the gbox & the spine is that a brace for stiffening up the frame/trans? Does std Daytona have anything there? KB
  24. Thanks Dan, I'll contact him. KB
