Jaap/Paul, Can you get any more details off the man? Was the problem any way attributable to his fix? Is he on the German V11 site...anyone speak German? Anyone else seen anything like this? KB, Wales (with single plate clutch )

Mike, Could it be the harshness is caused by the damping rather than the spring? I have a Scura to which I fitted a 100Kg spring in place of the std 85. The spring is great, & shock works pretty good now, but I feel that the high speed compression damping is too stiff, causing harshness over sudden, sharp bumps. I understand this is not adjustable on my shock unless it's dismantled, the external adjuster only affecting low speed damping. KB, Wales

Mike, My understanding is that the /85 refers to an 85Kg spring. Re spring rates - are 'Kg' & 'N/mm' same, anyone? KB, Wales

Captain Nemo, If the fork legs are same diameter all way down, I don't see why you can't run your existing clip ons right down to bottom triple clamp. Unless you want a different angle on the bars... But watch out for all cable/brake line routing and clearance for your hands at tank on lock... & like Al says - decreased leverage esp if bike is prone to shaking it's head... Bar position is a compromise...unless bike's racing or touring only. Drop em up & down, bit at a time, til you're happy (I beg your pardon missus...) KB, Wales

Al, Scura forks are 43mm. They look same as yours, save for the axle bore. Anyone tell me is Kg same as N/mm, ie. is 10Kg spring same as 10N/mm? Thanks, KB, hmmm, looks like rain...

Al, Forks on the Scura are marked FG8470. They may be different to yours, dunno. What interests me is your spec'd oil level of 105 mm (I am assuming this refers to air gap). When I re-sprung forks I left 85mm air gap as per Ohlins specs I have. I was thinking of dropping the level a bit as forks do seem a bit hard. I'll be interested to see how you get on. Cheers, KB, Mid Wales

dlaing, I'm interested in the point you've raised but it is not clear to me what specifically you are concerned may cause problems, nor what those problems might be. All I can think is the varying angles of the UJ's = power loss/vibration/stress & that setting sag to prevent more extreme angles is beneficial. Is that what you're getting at - or have I missed the point? Are these effects any more of a concern, in relation to suspension settings, than varying tension in a chain drive system? I set sag to 30-33% cos I know no better. Cheers, KB, Wales

No, it's plastic. Different to the one on Dan's Guzzi site. I'd post a picture but I don't know how... What happened to all the little black lines Jaap? KB, Mid Wales.

When you talk about the Stucchi fairing - Is that the one fitted as standard to the Scura? Thanks, KB, Mid Wales.

Diablos have great corner grip, good stability. Rear is past half worn at 1,500 miles, front less so. Will get 2,500 max on rear. There is no cupping on front, wear is pretty even f & r. These are regular Diablos, not Diablo Corsas, which are stickier again. I went to 170/60 rear cos I felt rear is overtyred on original 180/55. Big improvement in handling. Turn in is much smoother, f/r seem much better matched. No longer feels like rear is reluctant to follow front into bends. Can't see any reason to fit a 180 save looks/fashion. Much prefer these to original BT020's which I never felt very secure on. I got 3,300 miles on rear to wear bars, but by then front was so badly cupped it was unpleasant to ride on. Someone mentioned the Tenni raced at the TT broke it's steering damper mount. I think I read somewhere that they didn't have much time with the bike to set up the suspension ... the thought of racing one of these on the IOM... . Does anyome know anything about this? Cheers, KB, Mid Wales

The screen on Scura is quite effective for it's size.

Docc, F Diablo is half worn & no cupping!(not many miles either but...) KB

I have had damper on my Scura set to lowest setting since new & was thinking of removing it.The bike hasn't shaken it's head & I'm interested to see. On my LM11 I removed the damper & sawed off the bracket too ! It regularly shakes it's head quite dramatically light over crests but settles down after 3 or 4 oscillations. I like to feel what's going on...The V11 feels pretty stable. I dunno - but I feel a damper just masks other problems. Suspension set up like Jason says. Gythni - did you actually get any headshakes when you were running V11 without a damper? Rich - The earlier V11's had steeper head I think, less stable.

Docc, Ooops!!!Well good you came out OK. Were you on the brakes or was it just the lean/turn? I'm on Pirelli Diablos, running Guzzi pressures rather than higher pressures Pirelli rec'd. They grip great on the road, much better than orig BT020's but don't last long. It's a heavy old bike... I just read the old thread...Was it a left or right? Sidestand can really smack down hard on left, enough I think to lift wheel...esp if suspension is undersprung... "A Twist of the Wrist" is a great book, well worth reading... Good luck, KB, Wales

Docc, What caused the lowside? KB.

Docc, the exceptional ground clearance !!! It's not standard then...? You done something with the s/stand & silencers? KB, Wales

Wildbill, Check out the old threads on this. Things can get very hot back there... KB, Mid Wales

Rear brake was binding as described by Al. I adjusted the rear master cylinder actuating rod for max freeplay and fitted an elastic between the brake pedal & frame, to act as a return spring for the pedal. The binding stopped... ...for now... 1500 miles ago...it may be fixed... There's old threads on the site about this. Are the rear wheel bearings OK? - check esp. brake side. KB, Mid Wales

Handling on my Scura was not good til I resprung the std Ohlins for my weight. Std Scura shock needs less high speed compression damping also I think, but 46HRCS may have different valving (It has remote preload adj which I would love to have!). It is vital to get suspension spec'd to your weight/riding style. I found Kais Suspension in Manchester (UK) very helpful for Ohlins. They have factory specs for Scura suspension. Ohlins is lovely stuff...

Is the TPS position fixed or adjustable? ie: can I take it off w/o cocking up any settings? And if I do take it off what's best lube? Thanks, KB Wales

My roundhead 950 motor has balanced internals. Runs smoother, worth doing.
-
Yeah...& my how they chortle down in Mandello as we struggle with all the deliberate mistakes & red herrings... Did someone mention turning the silencers to get more ground clearance - did you make up new brackets?

Gavin, They're 36/42 - Pirelli specs. Tyre depot said could maybe run slightly less rear but they feel fine as is & I haven't experimented. Guzzi handbook pressures seem a little low - similar to pressures on old Tonti skinny tyres. Modern tyres seem to run higher pressures. I've often wondered about the discrepency between Guzzi & tyre makers specs - Anyone explain? Cheers, KB
