And that's my concern exactly. It must be as dry as a bone in there (hence the notch). I'm just of to the garage to take it off before I forget... Thanks for your replies everyone. Always appreciated.

Yep. I seem to remember mine leaking when I bought the bike. Thanks for that. I'll bin it and find myself a nice one. Cheers.

My steering damper needs a service / replacement. It has a 'notch' in the middle. I run it on minimum anyway so wondered if I could safely remove it until I sort out its replacement / repair? :-)

Just bought new rubbers for my airbox to carb / carb to motor. Just wanted to ask if there are any issues before I steam in and replace the old, cracked ones? Many thanks.

Ever used an international bike shipper (UK to NZ) ?
Molly replied to Molly's topic in Travel & dealers
Thanks everyone. It's a one-way move (I hope). I'll follow up on your advice. All the best. Brian -
Thanks to the member who put me onto Dan at http://www.dpguzzi.com/. Relays came today at a fraction of the local over-the-counter price. I'd like to add my recommendation to other members too. BM

Ever used an international bike shipper (UK to NZ) ?

Thanks for that but it'll have to go by sea as air is too costly. Cheers though. -
Shipping my bike to NZ in a few months. Not sure who to trust with it so wondered if any of you have ever used an international shipper you'd be happy to recommend?

Can I ask where the sensor is located?
-
Thanks everybody. I'm going to take it down to the Grandstand area of the TT course as there are lots of teams preparing bikes for next week's practices. I'm going to show my bike at all the other shiny, fast machines and tell it that it's being a slob and should get its arse in gear. Maybe that'll do the trick. It's had a recent service (which I'd have done myself but for having few tools here at the moment) and at that a dyno run (as the mechanic was keen to sell me a Power Commander) where it showed 80bhp and a lean 'dip' between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. I think I'll find and check that sensor you mentioned but mine does have a choke lever rather than any automatic jobbie so is it still the case that I might have to? Anyway, thanks again chaps. Still love my bike. Just want to know that all's well.
-
That's interesting actually. It's just had an air filter so it's not that I suppose but I am interested in the idea that the choke might be on. By the way, it returns a regular 38 to 40mpg (UK gallon). I'll find and check the sensor.

No use to me those replies but very entertaining. I'll change the plugs actually. Bike's running rich as it happens.

Just lately my 2000 V11 seems to have lost it's pep. Used to surprise me sometimes when I wound it on and it really shifted. Now it's just a bit 'flat' if you know what I mean. Not very technical or specific sorry. Maybe I've eaten one too many pies? Any thoughts?

Mine came with a washer which was too small. I had oil all down the left side of the bike. Just a heads up.

Thanks again. I'll follow up your links as soon as the wife gets home with my credit card (if there's anything left on it...). Hope my fix turns out to be the fix and not just a swap that coincided with the bad earth temporarily fixing itself. We'll see...

Before I got too deep into things I thought I'd swap out the relays with the spare one I have. Got to the second one ('Lights' I believe) and all seems back to normal. These relays are £16 each here in the Isle of Man!!! That's about $30US. Could anybody recommend a source for reliable, good-quality ones so I can keep spares with me? Thanks for all your help everyone.
-
Thanks for that. I have a spare relay so can chop and change it until I find the problem. :-)
-
Would anybody have a list of their locations at all? Hope that's not a stupid question.

2000 V11 in regular use and been fine. Turned the key to return from a ride out today and the instrument lights were faint. Noticed one dimmed more as I touched the brake. Started OK and got me home (possibly running more hesitantly but could be my paranoia). Still starts OK but instrument lights all but out now. New battery and battery tender in use. Any thoughts? The TT is just around the corner and I’d hate to be bikeless. Many thanks. Brian.

Why is it that we here in the UK would be expected to pay more than double that? It's no wonder manufacturers call the UK 'Treasure Island' and clearly not just the V11 itself that's shafted... :-(

The marketing bloke who explained the tyre structure to me talked about a triple wire cord, or some such, wound at differing tension as it passes from the shoulder to the centre of the tyre and back to the other shoulder. He said the higher tension in the centre would be good for highway use whereas the lower tension would help the tyre present a larger contact patch on corners. That's as best I can remember and based on what I think he was trying to explain. It could all be wrong... ha ha. He did say it's not dual compound though. I commented on the wide variety of bikes fitted with it and he said that's part of what they're trying to get across - that its a very versatile tyre.

Funny some of you should suggest the Metzeler. There was a Metzeler press launch here on the Isle of Man today for, I think it was, the Z6. Lots of journalists and a few celeb riders (not that I recognised anybody - just saw them being interviewed) and lots of very different bikes on the same tyre. One of the marketing people explained the structure of the tyre and how it's a response to the dual compound offers from other manufacturers without actually being dual compound itself. Tried to get a few free samples but to no avail... ;-)

Naaaah. It's easy when you've done it a few times... Nowhere's more than a day away.

Thanks Zappa. Nice to hear from somene back down there. There can't be too many V11s in the South Island. Shifting back to Christchurch in October. Looking forward to some of those rides out to Hanmer etc. Cheers everybody.
