I have my 2000 V11 up for sale (traumatic experience - moving - see classifieds for details) and an eagle eyed potential buyer asked if there should be a washer between rear axle nut and swing arm (on the left side) - currently I just have the nut (and as far as I know it has always been that way ..) but closer inspection of the factory manual (section F2 page 8) does seem to show a washer between the nut and swingarm ..? So does anyone know of any 3 3/8" replacement tachs that will accept 1 PPR (Stewart Warner or otherwise) - mine has died and am reluctant to do the chop revive thing as it seems to have had mixed results in other cases - I would much prefer a higher quality replacement than the original Vaguelio ... Gio

2000 V11 Sport w Mistrals, open air box and Power Commander gets me typically 35 mpg imperial (12.5km/l) around town and 42 mpg on open highway ... Gio

I have filled my V11 per drain plug method (on level ground) and found that approx 350 ml was drained at next service (make sure you do this after a run so the oil is warm). The splatter may be grease from UJ's (if you lubed these at the same time) ..? Gio

Hi Brian, I just experienced an un-scheduled surge in gravity, as a result of which I am looking for replacement magni fairing (screen only - got lucky on this) and left side indicator / mirror ... I would be very interested in trying this as an alternative. Gio PS - I just sent you a PM.

Hi Pete, Care to elaborate on the "dogga dogga" noise ... like BM I saw the oil light flicker (pre installation of your plate - not since) but put ~60k (kms) prior to the plate - mostly moderate ... I have some engine noise but put this down to normal wear ... Cheers, Gio PS - I asked my dog to listen but he did not recognise anything unusual.

At least we have a kick starter ... Gio

See my last post under "spring reprise" thread below - I was stuck in 5th with same symptoms but spring was ok - due to stop pin coming loose - still need to remove selector cover to confirm though. Gio
-
UPDATE - removed cover and determined that spring seemed ok and was stuck in 5th. Closer inspection of residual SPH in base of box revealed a short (~ 2cm) pin made of wound steel. I figured this must be the "stop pin" as located between two bolt holes, half-way up the right side of the cover plate - cleaned out the retaining hole and tapped back into place. This pin is only seated on one side and so could (in theory) work loose and enter the trans fluid. It's function seems to be to stop over travel of the selector arm. See top centre of belfast's last pic which shows pin in place. Re-filled with saved fluid and road-tested - as good (if not slightly better) than new. Gio PS - Confirming 750ml SPH gives a level half-way up sight glass after thorough draining. If selector plate removed then add ~770ml (due to additional loss) ... that SPH sure likes to stick around.

2000 V11S with 65,000 km on stock spring. Just replaced the trans fluid (after 20,000 km) w SPH (750ml) and went for a test-ride. Just as I was thinking how well everything was working .... stuck in gear (5th I think) - looks and feels like springitis. Coincidence? Bizarre at the very least. Fortunately I have a spare spring so am draining the fluid as we speak in order to confirm ... Gio PS - must add my thanks in advance to belfast and others for valuable info ...

Hi Ratchet, No worries - in fact I should explain why I was asking. I used to have a little notebook with all my service history notes in but lost this recently (over 7 years of service notes ... which really sucks btw) and hence my initial claim of geeting over 65,000 km on the stock pads ... don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that ..? In checking my receipts I purchased a replacement set at around 30,000 km and so am getting somwhere between 30 and 35,000 km per set (on what I am assured are) stock organic Brembo pads which I think is quite good. The dust is a pain (I was just curious if Ferodo were the same) but I can live with this as we all do. Apologies for any confusion and thanks again for the feedback. Gio
-
Ratchet - a couple of follow-up questions : 1. What kind of mileage did you get out of the stock pads - and how does this compare to Ferodo? 2. Did you notice any more or less dust on the front rim after switching to Ferodo? Gio PS - I tracked down the part # of stock Brembo pads as # 107.6708.10 (list price $79 CDN a set)
-
Thanks Tom - I couldn't even get a search result on "Brembo" ...? Gio
-
I was inclined to go with whatever Brembo pads were fitted as stock - originals will have done ~70,000 km of service and I have been satisfied with their performance ... but am open to alternatives Gio
-
Tried searching the forum but no luck - anyone have the part # for stock front brake pads (2000 V11S) ... Gio

Best oil for cold weather applications?
Gio replied to al_roethlisberger's topic in Technical Topics
Castrol 10/40 (non-synthetic) in winter, 20/50 in summer. No idea if it makes any difference. Gio -
Brass replacement. Original fitting disintegrated upon removal. Gio

Update - In cooler weather (5 to 10c ambient) I have experienced some popping/spluttering at low engine speed. Removing the Copaslip from the gap between sensor and holder (ie restoring the original "air gap" seems to have cured this. I'm speculating that with the Copaslip sensor was reading hotter than intended and removing it causes the engine to run richer/better ..? Gio

But ... 2mm at one end and 6mm at the other offends my sense of symmetry - with balance comes harmony - I feel compelled to adjust to get an even 4mm at each end ... Gio
-
Just to clear any confusion - with damper installed as per Hyperpro instructions it was just hitting at full LH lock - but with revised installation there is now clear "rod" at both steering lock extremes (2mm at one end, 6mm at the other - so I guess I could adjust further and get 4mm at both ends?) Gio
-
Indeed. Fortunately (steering) lock to lock is only required during parking manouvers ... So far so good. I have found just one or two clicks (of up to 24 I think) seems to be quite sufficient and has very little effect on low speed turning effort. The only thing I don't like is the "upside-down" mounting (ie with adjuster facing downwards) otherwise I'm pleased with the transition from the stock Bit-of-lubo and associated oily mess ... Gio

Just fitted a 75mm RSC unit in place of the stock Bitubo on my 2000 sport. Installation instructions indicate a distance of 39mm between clamp and end of assembly - but I found that this limits movement prior to mechanical stop at full left hand lock (but still ~12 mm remaining at RH lock) I have adjusted this reference measurement to 47mm (ie +8mm) which now gives ~2mm free at LH lock and ~6mm at RH lock. Thanks. With regard to the raised tank pad problem - I cut some foam to fit either side of the tank pad and then fit this in the base of the current (MG) bag - takes away much of that wobble. Gio Thanks - but no thanks (our tanks are plastic) ... Gio
-
I'm looking at replacement options for the MG tank bag (map compartment window plastic has cracked in numerous places) ... Anyone have any experience with the Roadgear Three-point Jumbo Sport model (#SL767) ..? I have used Roadgear bags in the past and quality was excellent. (Apologies to non north American members - Roadgear is out of Colorado) Gio

Thanks Pete - yes Canadian spec bikes are fitted with the massive charcoal cylinders and associated mile (sorry 1.6km) of tubing - all removed at delivery in the interest of space saving ... So far no sign of any excess oil and she's runny peachy! Gio
