  4. Thanks all for the insight. Knowing that it is not just theory helps. I think I will continue to waffle for a bit longer before reconciling to either pouring in the volatile or tearing the thing apart.
  5. The flush sounds straight forward enough. Can anyone else comment as to the choice of solvent and effectiveness? Are there any side effects of note?... will it leach into the tranny or sump? I would feel more comfortable walking off the cliff if I were part of a group.
  6. I'd try the mineral spirits flush. It worked on my LM 1000 when a dumbass service "technician" overfilled the transmission. Can you describe your mineral spirits experience? I read somewhere about someone spraying something into the bell housing, but my recollection is as vague as this sentence. Thank you
  7. Thanks J. The transmission was worked on. Is it likely that the discs could have been contaminated and that it could be temporary?... or am I just wishing. It doesn't seem to be getting worse, but it isn't right either.
  8. Does anyone have any experience with clutch slippage under hard acceleration above 6500 rpm? I have no evidence of a leak, and it happens only under load, such as with a passenger, heavy throttle at 80-90 mph, ect. The bike is a 2000 sport with 12k on it. It can be felt to slip as the bike comes up on cam. Besides loosing 30lbs around my middle or buying a set of wheels spun from unobtainium... any thoughts?... are the springs known to go south or plates prone to glazing? Do the little italians turning the crank inside go on strike? Thanks for the help!
  9. I had my tank off, vented and empty over a summer and the sealer didn't prevent the distortion. I ended up reshaping the front rubber tank locators to make it fit. My left fork just touches. I have learned to accept that it is not a well developed layout. Sexy as hell, but tweaked.
  10. Dave, A year or so hass passed since last post any news on the success of the tank sealer?? Paul Wow... zoom! and another year older. The sealer looks as though it has failed. The sealer isn't pealing away from the tank, but there is discoloration between the sealer and tank that has spread to all visible areas progressing out from an area the size of a quarter. Clearly it doesn't bond well. It was work to put in, and instead of peace of mind, I worry about the long term effects, loss of capacity, and potential clogged filters. All are more evidence of a character defect more than any real problem... which is annoying too. Oh, and the tank swelled back to it's tight fitting self. Sorry for not updating my conclusion. I cannot recommend it.
  11. I will be selling my white-faced 2000 sport gauges really soon if any of you are interested (whole pod assembly). Sadly, the tach light is off more than on. They both read dandy though. Any reasonable sum will do.
  12. Thanks Bill! I did the paint work myself. I buggered it the 1st time by using a flex additive that just made it look like plastic... sanding that out was bad, I almost gave up. West coast What's a thousand miles amongst friends?
  13. I like the site http://www.mgcycle.com/... it seems to be well organized and nicely located west of the atlantic ocean. Prices are generally fair if not always the lowest. Harper's MG on the west coast has offerings as well.

  15. I got curious about the roundel being red or green centered. As far as I can google, the red belongs to WWI with the allies and the green center to WWII post axis.
  16. Sorry, no offense to those from the Father-Land intended.
  17. I guess it could have been worse... something from the Wehrmacht perhaps Thanks for the compliment!
  18. When I install the filter and Manual petcock i will run an internal line from the pressure inlet valve directly to the outlet side of the tank to address to issue from another thread regarding the "hump".
  19. The new fuel filter is sitting next to my keyboard laughing at me. The old one has about 9k on it. The spare pump on hand method was my 1st thought, but I am trying to be better about tossing money at my motorcycle project problems before understanding the problem. It stopped making the noise this morning (for now), but I might gather my change together all the same. This is my 1st Guzzi but I am quickly amassing a spare parts collection... a good start on a second Guzzi
  20. Just discovered that the manual petcock is commonly available.
  21. I wish I had a manual petcock. Is there a unit that swaps easily to eliminate this as a possible cause? If not, any thoughts on a test on the electric one? As you are aware, electrics are not my forte.
  22. I was unaware of the crash until these posts. I was using what I thought was the adopted insignia of the Italian army flying corps in for WWI and the air corps for WWII. But am not Italian nor an expert (understatement ) on 20th century Italian history.
  23. Thanks! Yeah, far too much time watching old war movies as a kid. WWI seems so much more romanciful 90 years on and not through a cloud of mustard gas.
  24. It sounds like a mechanical whirring... not chattery, but not smooth either.
