  1. Working with good tools , ones with history or character give the user a sense of empowerment , character , humility and a host of other feelings that new tools cannot.
  2. Leave it alone.....looks better .
  3. Did you get tired of looking at your elbows ?
  4. Looks good. What was this set designed / sold for ?
  5. It can be straightened but I would have the carrier's insurance eat it .
  6. I like the shipbuilder story.... Offer it on eBay with the colorful history.
  7. Are you using new fasteners on the rods ?
  8. Scud , the rawhide mallet looks pretty old. How did you come upon this ?
  9. If you think you will have problems installing anything threaded . e.g. the manhole cover . Put it up to the oilpan bore and turn it as if you were unscrewing it. You will feel it click as it passes the first thread . Stop and start screwing it in as in the direction you are tightening it . This method works on good threads only. If you have messed them up , you will need a thread file & patience. You will never crossthread anything again.
  10. I think the Brake-kleen is what happened . Wait for it to return to it's original state or order another one. Go to a bolt store or hardware store and purchase a nut with a 1'' or head . See if it fits the recess in the cover. The hole is 26.5 mm hex. If it does (should) then you have the tool to remove the cover. All brands of filters have a different o.d. and different # of flutes on the end cap of the filter. Find a filter you like and stick with it. My 2cents is to purchase a Roper plate and install on your next service . I use the hose clamp to hold the filter IN PLACE. Yes it adds lots of time to the oil change but I know Mr. Filter is in the same place I left it. BTW , the Roper Plate is the most beautiful thing you will install and never see again on your bike.
  11. You can get one at any good automotive parts supplier .
  12. No...why are you going to remove the heads ?
  13. You should make & market accessories for BMW and sell them for 10 Xs production cost and get rich. This will aid ($) in your love for MG bikes
  14. Does anyone have the dimensions of the different pushrods & applications ?
  15. Too bad it was in neutral when he started it.
  16. If your Financial Advisor is the same person as the Quality Time Dispensor it would not be a bad idea to be advised !
  17. I understand why this is called a " reaction " rod .....
  18. Oh yeah.... My knees hurt so much I could sit or stand. Any movement at all , walking or the transition from sitting to standing was more than I wanted. Now I am going to try kneeling & squatting. I cannot tell you how good it feels to NOT hurt. BTW . The MDs I went to told me I would just have to live with it.
  19. After two years of constant pain my knees do not hurt any more. After having a 15 minute discussion w/my chiropractor I allowed him to "work" on my knees . He did this same procedure about 5 yrs a go and I thought it was going to kill me and I wouldn't let him do it any more. Well , this time , it worked. It has been one month and I can walk w/no pain . I knew I was fixed when I slept all night. I have waited one month to tell this just to make sure this was not just an ease in pain. This message is for any of you that have any pains or problems , find you a good chiropractor and have thorough discussions about your problems . Go frequently and do whatever exercises and changes he recommends.
  20. These should be a push fit and take no lubrication . The best part of the whole R&R procedure.
  21. This looks like the best way to go !
  22. I had a 93 3.0 SHO 5 spd. I am glad/sad I finally blew it up. It was gonna get me killed !
  23. It is to lessen the strain on the driveline . And Docc's comment is true too.
  24. A spherical rod end does rotate and swivel but has no give. To properly in stall the factory reaction rod , you would want to install it and tighten both mounting fasteners ( that will tighten the center of the rubber bushings ) at ride height . This will be when your weight is on the bike. As far as rubber or solid bushings , it is a free country .
  25. Some Torx sockets will work in helping extracting socket head screws or USS in place of metric Allen head screws .
