  1. The best thing to use is from Loctite. It is a red anaerobic gasket maker that replaces the gasket . I don't remember the part #. It is sold through NAPA and other parts stores.
  2. After years of experience (of f'ing things up) I have found to screw the nut back onto the steering stem til it is flush with the stem. Then put the socket you loosened the nut with back on the nut. You should have clearance between the socket and triple tree. After you see the clearance is adequate then hit the socket to drive the stem down and break loose... You can remove the nut and use a brass drift to drive it out the rest of the way out...... When you go back together use liberal amounts of wheel bearing grease in the cavity and bearings.
  3. I have them on my bike. They had faded to a matte finish...... I had a buddy spray them with CLEAR....... OMG ! They look sacred now.......... p.s. The starter cover has grommets/metal bushings with acorn nuts holding it on... If they are not used you will have problems.
  4. Kiwi Roy, et.al. will give their input............ but I think it is. Contact Palo Alto Speedo n ask one of their salesmen to be sure.
  5. probably BOTH.
  6. Buddy, Shops change tires and that's it. If they do ( and or smart enough to) more, you need to go back to THEM. If you can watch the service being performed , you can get an idea of the caliber of person on the other end of the wrench.
  7. And grease the driveshaft u-joints.....
  8. I would say your clutch / flywheel assembly is probably o.k. Drain a small amount of oil from the transmission ( and look at the drain plug ) to see what comes out with the oil ?
  9. The acorn nuts holding the bowl onto the dash probably won't come off. You will have to send the entire assy. to them.
  10. Palo Alto Speedometer Service in Ca. is who you should check with. They do perfect work. Not cheap but you will be satisfied. They also have a chart on their website to ( in case you think yours is off) have them calibrate your speedo/odometer also.
  11. Does this sound happen in neutral also?
  12. The job loks easy. Remove the oil cooler, hoses, voltage regulator, horns & brackets. Front engine mount bolts, etc... I don't know what is needed (8mm LONG threaded bolt?) to remove the alternator rotor. ALL the hex head capscrews holding the cover on then remove. If you have access to Hylomar Sealant or any other gasket sealant, NO silicone sealer apply a very spartan amount to both sides of gasket upon reassembly. Let set an hour and retorque the screws. When you install the alternator rotor make sure it is torqued properly. You don't want this to come loo$e! p.s. Remove all of the old gasket material from the cover and engine block.
  13. Yes, the pump does prime for 2 seconds and stops. Then when you start it the pump operates.
  14. Read my post again. Check with your AUTOMOTIVE garage to see if they have this device or if they know a shop that has it. The kit is less than $100 but you will probably never use it again......
  15. Do you have access to dye/UV light to find the leak? If not , check with the shop that works on your vehicle to se if they can help. You WILL find the leak with this stuff!!!
  16. Back in the early 1908s cam lobe failure was commonplace in 305- 350 Chevrolet engines..... Camshaft/lifter replacement was done w/out any other problems. I think you could get by (I would check the bores of the head where camshaft goes in the heads for excessive clearance) with cam/followers replacement.
  17. This Ducati looks GOOD !
  18. What was the purpose of putting the sealer in the tank in the 1st place? Was the fuel tank leaking ? The plastic tank was (and is ) probably too "slick" for the sealer to stick to the tank.
  19. Please explain your statement.. "You can't just screw down aluminum" .....
  20. The left side is lean..... Do you have an infra-red thermometer to put on the exhaust pipes to see difference in temps. ? Check for air leaks at the intake. If that is o.k. you probably have a fuel injector problem. www.lindertech.com is the place to send them for service. They can test, flow rate and clean them . They will tell you if they are bad or good , so you can be assured that is or is not your problem.
  21. The "plastic tank in a crash" question does not have an answer. These tanks kave been known to do things they are not supposed to do. That can be fixed with an aluminum fuel tank. You own(ed) British bikes.......... My experience with them "Ride it no farther than you can push it back". The Guzzi is "different" and hopefully so are you. As far as buying a used bike, go into the purchase full of questions and expect good honest answers. The good seller willknow if you are asking knowledgeable questions too. He will probably be a member of this forum. This is a PLUS... Good luck.
  22. Congratulations from all of us ! I am sure you are happy........

  24. OMG. A perfect view.
