  1. Helmets are like BBQ sauce . What you love , I just might turn my nose up to. A while back this progressive motorcycle shop was closing and I went over in hopes of getting a bargain on a NAME brand helmet . The owner told me "you better buy what fits you and disregard the name . It turns out I got what I needed and am enjoying it still.
  2. FYI , when I was trying to figure out the misfire on the black frame bike you can do this very quickly . I used an analog meter set on the highest scale of resistance and went from the HT lead to the frame and checked for continuity . This verified (infinite) an open circuit. I unscrewed the cap and checked it . These caps have resistors and have a different r value . Since it was open I knew I had found my problem. Installed new cap and tested again . Around 15k , so I knew everything else is good. The factory wire is a solid core and should be less than 10 ohm resistance . When you add the secondary value of the ign. coil to the test it will be more . It will be unusual for both sides to be messed up . Some service manuals give the primary / secondary r values. 99% of the time the secondary fails on a ignition coil aka transformer in a A.C. circuit. Remember this. If you are not sure about what you are doing or if you are not doing it correctly , go to the other cylinder and check your work . It is seldom both sides will be messed up .
  3. Oh , this was a project . The original owner was an "artist" & I had to go through a lot to de-personalize this bike . It was worth it .
  4. George Jones will be there !
  5. After being in hibernation since 2006 , I got the red frame out and started riding it . The test ride didn't go well . I didn't realize the starter button was stuck and I got about 1 1/2mi. down the road with it running awful and died . Starter was HOT and battery was dead . A buddy stopped and had a jump box , I started it and made it home. Let it charge and took it to work the next two days. I still sputtered and ran awful at fixed throttle and rolling off throttle. I was explaining the symptoms to my guru when I realized what it was . Got my meter and checked the spark plug wire to ground resistance. OPEN . Went into the shop and installed a new plug cap , checked resistance and GOOD . Don't remember the # , somewhere around 5-6k. Installed both caps to keep from having one Champion and one NGK . I do (occasionally) have standards. Now it starts immediately and no misfires at all . Next week it becomes my daily rider. One more thing 34lbs. PSI is much better than 4/front and 11/rear in the tires. NOTE to self : check air pressure , I don't care how good they look . As mature as I have felt on the V-Strom I am meant to ride the V-11. P.S. My knees did bend enough to get my feet on the pegs. It has been 10+yrs. Now to get the fuel pump to work on the red frame and I will be ready to go ! It took me 7 days to find this thread or I would have posted much sooner. =
  6. Hmmmm , if no one give you any help , I would Google or eBay for info .
  7. The bike in the pics have CF fenders. Is yours CF or plastic ?
  8. Your bike has the Ohlins fork ?
  9. OOOOH , you need to Google Robertson screws . You will never use another style of woodscrew again .
  10. Hmmmm , IDK . My 87 SE is so full of quirks it is hardly rideable. BUT I cannot explain the acceleration , the twisting of the bike when you are accelerating and how the bike picks up in the rear while all of this is taking place . IIRC I could hit 60mph in 1st gear. Keep in mind it IS more than ready to go to 2nd when this is happening . From 5500 on (or til you are ready to get to the next gear) this bike takes OFF ! Anyone that has or had ridden an un-emasculated HP Guzzi knows the feeling !
  11. The response to all this : # 1 these engineers have never designed anything before . They have no failure under their belt , they have no success under their belt . The only thing they have going for them . Hubris . # 2 the same can be said for the mechanics . The same .
  12. re; you n the Vette . It sounds like are getting a little older . Plain and simple .
  13. This is so ugly and stupid
  14. Welcome to this forum and good luck w/this bike.
  15. All of the racket now is manufactured , written , produced and the singers are selected and is AI generated crap. Yes there are a few genuine musicians in existence. I will go along w/your point about blues music too. Blues music is different . I don't think there are that many counterfeit blues players. You have it or you don't . Plus you have blues and or blues influenced music. e.g. 99% of British music from the early 60s - on . Me , all good music is from Hwy 61.
  16. Girl , you better understand one thing . This little enigma machine is anything BUT a wise decision . You will come out of this with an appreciation , an understanding an awareness , and most of all a better person . You will find yourself around a bunch of professional people who want you to be satisfied with your bike and you will be able to shock yourself when you look at your wiring diagram like it is a 1960 road map . Grok . look it up
  17. You know country music is judged by/for it's authenticity . No other music is required to be "real". I don't listen to it but I appreciate the authenticity of it. any idiot can put together silly lyrics , "she thinks my tractor's sexy" . Hmmmmm. I don't . Hank sang his feelings , his history , his life . He was also a mortal who happened to be a god at the same time. He was called out for 6 encores on his first time at The Grand Ole Opry. SIX , yes six . they had to stop the encores because the rest of the show had to continue. This style of music IS Country music . Some artists still have it , this is what people listen for and to . I hope it never stops.
  18. audiomick , you need to retype all of this response in CAPS.
  19. Docc , that has been a while back . You just want to get the front/rear tracking the same. What these pivot adjusting pin/bolts are doing or where they end up mean very little . Think valve clearance adjusting screws. The lash is what matters . The # of threads doesn't matter. BTW , the thread pitch is 1.0 so every revolution changes things by 1.0mm
  20. $175/hr to play doctor ? Hmmm. What , uhh , do you own a CBX or is this a desire to own a CBX . To live in Decoy , Ky I have seen some exotic stuff around here along w/no desire to own any of it. Be careful for what you wish , you may get it
  21. Hmmm. 1 Don't buy ANYTHING you can't fix yourself . Get a bunch of biker buddies that own and work on their own bikes and hang out w/them too. 2 A great mechanic doesn't negotiate prices. a greater mechanic may let you watch them and instruct you on what they are doing , why and what you can DIY . A good mechanic will explain why they do something and what you can do . 3 Just because you want one doesn't mean you need one. I will have to quote a saying my Momma used to have "you need that like you need a possum with a red asshole". 4 If I didn't know as much as I do (especially joining THIS forum) , I would have regretted this bike .
  22. AFA all the prefix and suffix characters of bearings you will have to Google or look in a bearing manual to interpret the information. All that stuff has a reason so use all of this when purchasing replacement bearings. You do want the rear wheel tracking in the center of the path of the front wheel . I rigged up a contraption of two florescent lamp bulbs to show where the rear wheel is located in relation to the front. Use the center stand to keep the bike the bike upright and place the front wheel straight ahead . Make your adjustments to get the rear wheel in the center of tracking . When you get your alignment finished , tighten one adjustment screw to about 30 lbs to seat , back off and get it just snug (hand tight) then tighten the adjusting nut.
  23. All of the British bikes of the 60s-70s were beautiful in a showroom & a curse once they hit air and you got them in your name . Think Gremlins with a super duper dose of DMT .
