  2. Hope you are right, but Dave has a point here. Already have the 160 tyre, new tires, different brand, tested on my other Guzzi. Steering head is fine, steering damper is fine, new wheel bearings, all tiptop. So if it is the setup, I will experiment this summer, Dave still has a point that it is more sensitive than oter Guzzis just by different frame geometric.. Anyway I was pleased to read how it worked out for Dave as it gives a good view on the problem, no matter what way you solve it. Food for thought.
  3. Interesting story, struggling with similar poor handling of 99 V11 sport. Red frame. Sport 1100 I have drives so much better straight as an arrow and steady in curves (with hyperpro front springs). The V11 is stock, thought it was the tires, but now on new Pirelli Angels (160 rear) still scary in curves (falling in the curve). Sport 1100 also has Angels but is doing very well in the curves. Maybe you have a point here with adapting steering head.. (last resort it will be -not that I'm afraid of the surgery, when tig welded no problem at all regarding the safety of the bike). Well, good to read I am not the only one who has problems with the V11. Will ventilate whatever I find when I get this solved. (need time...)
  4. In the end all roads lead to Mandello so cant miss Dont like hotels but I trust on the weather and try to find a camping site half way near Swiss border. V11 stays home, take the sport 1100.. no offense
  5. Yes, planning to go there as well. Still have to go there for the first time so why not this weekend. Will try to find some free camping ground , do not like to pay for some square meters when I'm not buying it. Anyone familiar with the local campings? Johan

  7. and this is what its all about...
  8. picture of problem part. the coil is visible, the thin wires not but they are easlily broken by movement of the needle. Stupid thing is, on assembly I set the needle perfectly in zero, now it is again a little off set already.. maybe I should have set it below zero without power connected..
  9. Hubert, Looks cool, this electronic tacho replacement. Intresting it is.. Was also thinking in this direction but then from already existing instruments from any manufacturer.. yiou know nice priced 2nd hand stuff.. But for now it works fine. Johan
  10. Fixed the tacho, had to cut it open. Hubert you were right it is magnetic. And spent an hour cleaning it after. Problem was the same as the one mentioned in the thread (with the alu-tape). At first I was disappointed because it looked okay. Later I notced the hair thin wire from the small coil to the rotor (one of the two) was indeed loose although it looked OK. Was able to solder it however. And working! Saved me 275 Euro for new instrument or 175 for replacement on exchange basis that is of course if it is not in two halves yet.. Regret to inform you I did again the duct tape fix to connect the upper and lower part of casing... bad habit but works for sure. Fixed the stalling of hot engine. This was caused by completely off tappet clearances (way too narrow). Thats what you you get if you buy second hand bikes.. So it makes me more or less happy now.. Johan
  11. Yeah, this stalling thing is something else.. Have made lots of miles with the older Guzzis. Stalling engine only happens on the carurettor types when misfiring one cilinder, hot oil makes more revs generaly.. This injection Guzzi is new for me. Before on the Ducati St4S I had poor running when the oil gets hot, but not stallng. It is just above zero now, so what will it bring in summertime.. Maybe it is an (early?) V11 thing, somebody recognises? Jo.
  12. Hi, Have checked the tach again on a long ride today, nah it is now really starting to fail, doesnt indicate above 5000 anymore and I really revved it way beyond..rpm is not gently dancing but bouncing like crazy. Also experienced stalling engine when idling after fighting some slow traffic downtown.. now this is getting on my nerves as I have traumas from by ducati stopping in the middle of traffic.........................hrmpff Maybe the relays need to be changed first before cutting any instrument.. Jo
  13. Hubert, Thanks your input here. Cutting it in half has some advantages so I am still considering it. Mayor advantage it that it will look from the top exactly the same way as now, that is already comforting. Another good thing is if it doesnt work it can be opened easily.. Only the aluminium tape is the finishing touch that will always be in the back of my head.. Maybe I'll brainstorm about this before cutting it. How to nicely join the two halfs .. maybe epoxy and paintsrpaying.. Another thing is, what can be the cause as mine is still working but gently dancing. If it is in and than out aging it can be a broken wire that touches once in a while. This is more curious. But thnaks, will reconsider. Jo.
  14. Hi again, Thanks for the links dk.. I had a good time reading about this opening up of the instruments. I did this exactly 100% the same way for my V35tt that was stolen from me and was drowned. (both instruments filled with mud) I destroyed a 2nd hand instrument opening from the top glass before deciding to cut them in half. Also the aluminium tape is in there for years now and I am so relieved I am not the only one doing this asshole operation.. but I am a little hesitating redoing it on my 'new' V11. Have to look in the mirror the rest of my life and live with the fact I am the one destroying precision instruments again. Even if it works afterwards it can be quite a scar on your ego as engineer. One more thing, In Holland there are sounds of paying mile-tax in the near future, How would it look to an outsider if the instruments have been tampered with.. So. I need to find out if it is nothing else before I do the surgery and fix that tiny lead.. And second, if I do so, have to fix it so good it looks better than new. Challenging, will keep you posted. Thanks again for your help. Jo.
  15. Hi I have searched the forum for this handy fix but cant find follow up... My tacho is floating around the actual value and I need definiltely to fix this.... Anyone fixed similar problem..?? It was snowing by the way at the time it started failing.. asking for trouble maybe. Jo.
