2000 V11 Sport with the iconic 1064 cc air cooled, push rod operated, 2 valve hemi head, uncoated lump. This bike needs nothing - 12k service done at Munroe Motors, Pirelli Diable Rosso tires with about 500 miles on them, and a fresh Yeasu battery and oil change by Werkstat just a few miles ago. Bike has some nice upgrades most notably the rare and sought after Magni half fairing. Bike also has a set of Guzzi Titanium slipons, Stucci crossover, and a few other upgrades here and there (sounds amazing). Call with questions and to check it out. I encourage test rides, but only with M1 and asking price cash in hand. Pics: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qicc8n9k9cerqxz/hNjpMDWaKt Derrick (415) TWO ZERO TWO - THREE SEVEN FIVE FOUR

Fixed odometer + new trip reset nob = realization that.....
SFSig posted a topic in Technical Topics
So yeah... What the titles says. To make a long story short, I recently fixed the broken speedo cable and while I was at it, I replaced the trip reset nob, too. All was well and right with the world until I realized that I was only getting in the realm of 17-19 mpg. I always had my suspicions: I seemed to be filling up the tank an awful lot, but I do live and drive mostly in San Francisco, so "the hills and stop and go traffic must be killing my mpg" . I can smell gas with the engine running a lot of the time, but this is my first bike, so maybe that's just they way it is . The black soot building up on the inside of my exhaust should have tipped me off too, but.... Anyway, the trip reset nob has confirmed my suspicions. To top it all off I just had a 12k service done at Munroe Motors - a reputable and knowledgeable shop. After conducting some searches on this and other forums, I have some ideas that I'd like to bounce off you guys: - It could be stuff related to the 12k service i.e. valve clearances, TPS, throttle body sync etc., but I would lean towards giving Munroe Motors the benefit of the doubt as they haven't steered me wrong yet... Not sure what clearance they set the valves at, though. -temp sensors of different sorts could be the culprit, I suppose. I'm not sure about the air temp sensor, but I'm pretty sure the oil/engine temp sensor is just fine. The reason for this is 1. I do believe it has a brass housing that I keep reading about 2. I also do let my bike warm up prior to riding it and about 2 minutes into having start it, the revs climb drastically when I have the throttle enrichment lever activated. Am I wrong in my assumption that this is due to the engine temp sensor reading the higher temperature of the adjusting the engine accordingly? I haven't tested the accuracy of the sensors with a multimeter, but to be honest, I'm an idoit with that thing... -fuel injectors. Maybe they need to be replaced? Maybe they're worn and allowing too much fuel to flow into the engine? -fuel mapping. This is a used bike and so I'm unsure what sort of fiddling the previous owners did it electronic or otherwise -accessories. It's got the MG Ti pipes and a aftermarket crossover (Mistral, I think). Perhaps the ECU was never adjusted to account for these accessories and so that's contributing to the low mpg? -trip odometer is way off. In other words, I still need to verify that 1 mi = 1 mi, but by my estimates it not SO off as to think 2 mi = 1 mi if that makes sense. That's all I can think of in my inexperienced mind. Taken individually, I find it hard to believe that one of those items could be responsible for me getting about half of what I would expect in terms of MPG. To be clear though, the bike runs wonderfully otherwise. I've got a nice strong consistent idle set at just below 1k RPMs (by Munroe). The power is great (although I don't have much to compare it to so it could be amiss I suppose). In general, I wouldn't think that anything was wrong with the bike, except that the trip odometer is telling me wacky info! I'll be bringing the bike back to Munroe to look at some stuff, so if you guys have any suggestions on things to look for then I'd love to be able to pass that info along or try to check into it myself. Thanks in advance for your input!!! -
When's the next Bay Area event. I'd love to participate!... help if I can. I live in SF and would be able to make it around the Bay, but Sacto is a bit far I'm afraid.

HELP with starting! New to motos + Used v11 = no idea where to sta
SFSig replied to SFSig's topic in Technical Topics
QUICK UPDATE.... So after the initial remedy with the battery tender and the bike working for a couple of rides, the same problem occurred again... I had it plugged into the battery tender for three straight days and still when I tried to start it.... just clicks. So I went out and bought a battery. I wanted to get the Hawker with the metal jacket, but all the shops locally had to order it and it was like $175 after tax, so...... I ended up with a Westco which the dealership I bought it from said they've done well by. Hoping that I didn't just waste $100 not to fix the problem, I installed the battery and crossed my fingers - it started right up. The crazy thing is that it seems like the new battery has breathed new life into the bike. Not only does it start up faster and stronger, but I swear it idles better as well... Is this possible, or am I just excited to have a working bike again? hmmmmm..... -
HELP with starting! New to motos + Used v11 = no idea where to sta

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR CONCERN AND INPUT!!! So I bought a battery tender and hooked it up to the bike for a day. The following morning, I tried starting the bike and after a few cranks (which it wasn't doing before, just clicking) it started right up. Since then, I've ridden it a couple of times and it's back to normal. Thanks again for everyones help! My donation to the site will be forthcoming. Garsdad - your suggestion of checkng voltage at 3k rpm will be my next step. The intake boots are cracked although I haven't seen any cracks deep enough to allow air in (although I can only see the half the boot facing outward). This doesn't seem to be the problem anyway, but it's something that I'll need to address sooner or later. Thanks again.... -

Happy New Year and thanks again for all the input. So I guess I wasn't clear (even in my own mind) about what clicking vs. cranking was. I spent some time with the bike and it's definitely not cranking; it is clicking a lot though. I measured the battery with a volt meter and it first read 12.4 then 11.6 with the ignition on. I then tried to start it up and it did a half crank and then just clicks. I then proceeded to try and start it four plus times... hahahaha Then I read the battery with the meter again, but this time the battery was down to 11.7 cold and 10.1 w/ the ignition on... Next step is for me to go out and get a battery tender. -

Thanks again! One other thing I forgot to mention that may be critical (I'm sorry for the run around!!!) At the stopsign where I said the bike "died" it didn't actually die. I remember being at the stopsign and then the bike on its' own started revving fro no reason. It got up to like 2500 before I killed it with the engine cut off switch. I pulled over and checked the throttle cable for being sticky or stuck, but it was pretty smooth... Could this be the reason? I mean, maybe the fast idle lever or throttle or fuel delivery system isn't working? Thanks for your patience and understanding... I should have known better than to try and post while riding backwards on the train on a blackberry. -

Thanks for the input... I'm not sure what kind of battery it is other than it's a "sealed" battery. I'll check to see what brand it is and post that here if it makes any difference. I'm inclined to think that the battery is good, but I'll put a volt meter on it to be sure. The part that I don't get is that it seems to be getting fuel (from the sound of the fuel system charging) and the starter is cranking well.... If the kickstand switch was stuck, and I was "in-between gears/false neutral", then would the starter still crank? I was at a stop sign when the engine died, but then I guess that wouldn't explain how I was able to ride down the block in the first place... This is going to drive me nuts. -
New member so go easy on me! I recently bougth my first bike after renting mopeds in thailand and falling in love with two wheels and a motor. I naturally was drawn to the v11 for its classic lines and uniqueness. Its a 2000 v11 sport with about 10k miles and the Magni fairing (I posted a pic on the map thingy in San Francisco if you're interested in seeing it). Anyway, I'm texting on my blackberry from public transportaion at the moment because my bike died this morning. I started it up this morning, let it warm up a bit, drove a block and the engine died and wouldn't start up again. All the lights work. I can hear the fuel pump charging the system but when I try and turn it over all I hear is a succession of rapid clicks. I breifly read some posts on starter issues and will continue to research but I have a suspicion as to what it might be and would like some confirmation. This morning when starting to warm up the bike, I forgot to put up the kick stand. It was in neutral and started, but when I tried to put it in gear it died. Not realizing that I had my stand still down, I restarted the bike, let it idle and then again tried to put it in gear. Again it died. Finally I realized I was an idiot and put up the kick stand, started the bike and rode away. I got a block and it died and couldn't get it to start again. I think my having the kick stand down with the engine running may have caused the problem but I'm relatively ignorant about motos and very ignorant about moto guzzis. Am I way off base or possibly on the right track. Since, I've tried switching the five pin relays, added gas, and racked my brain but still nothing. The bike came to me with a new battery so I don't think it's that but definitely could be wrong. Any ideas or suggestions? My thumbs hurt....
