    Charge Light

I just had exactly the same thing happen to my '02 Lemans - replaced the charging light bulb, but it only comes on after a ride when I shut the engine down and then turn the key back on to restart, then it goes out (as it should after the engine is running... It never comes on when the engine is cold before starting. I am getting a 14.2 volt charge, so all is well with the system. I guess we can chalk it up to the ghosts... (or a loose connection somewhere)
  3. So my switch just gave up the farm - but strange, it shows conductivity with the multimeter, but does not turn the light on or off, if I jump the contacts on the switch, the brake light goes on... Must be low/bad conductivity? Any guess's? Jamie
  4. Yes, if you do not have any luck here, Ebay has worked very well for me over the years, you just need to be concise and clear on the description and do not allow folks to bid with no or low feedback - this routes out the scammers. Good luck!
  5. I guess I'll chime in one more time and say that sometimes an idea for a tattoo is better suited for a t-shirt, at least you can take it off easier!
  6. After much indecision and reflection, I just finished stitching a Moto Guzzi 'wing logo' patch on the back of my leather jacket, so I understand your situation, but even more so!
  7. Yes, it is pumping out 14 +/- volts @ 2000 rpm - seems correct...?
  8. I found that the charging light comes on after I turn the ignition switch on/off/on quickly... it happens every time - but it does not come on with switching it to ON... it also works correctly after a ride... (and goes off after the engine is running) I wiggled and fiddled with the wiring and the light will not go on unless the above conditions are met...? At least I know it's not the bulb!?
  9. Hilarious! Seriously though, there is a slim line between customization and bastardization!
  10. If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.

  11. Sick. It is freaking beautiful... congratulations.
  12. Yes, I was certainly very happy until I got the panel back together and the dang light was not working again! Must be something loose or not making a good connection?
  13. Ok, so I found that the connections inside the bulb housing were not making contact with the bulb contacts, straightened the prongs out - bulb works! (happy) Jamie
  14. Yes, I have been thinking about this oil filter loosening problem that seems so pervasive with the V11's - only to conclude that the problem may rest within the accessibility of the filter through the hole. Many of us have always been under the assumption to always hand tighten 'spin-on' filters and never use a wrench, so perhaps too many owners tried to tighten this filter through the hole by just using hand pressure, which, it damn near impossible to do!

Let 'em play with loaded firearms in their living rooms while drunk! Abolish helmet laws! Seat belt laws! And encourage all severe risk-taking activities like ropeless bungy-jumping and skydiving without a parachute and crocodile wrestling. That would soon thin the herd!!!" 16. I've got 17,500 on my '02... She is just a champ, the more I ride, the deeper I fall head over heels in love with this machine. The funnest part about the bike is how it pulls like a tractor yet with such smooth elegance...
  17. Was wondering where most of you blokes like to sit your engine rpm for cruising? Mine seems very comfy @ 3500rpm, above that it seems a bit yippy, below that it bogs...
  18. Sorry Docc, that was my fault... Yes, all the other warning lights are functioning. When the key is turned to the 'on' position, the neutral light and oil light are on, then the oil light goes off (as it should) after engine is started.
  19. OK, so I did find the three hex head bolts to access the front section of the warning light dash are all turning without backing out... seems as though the nuts on the other side of the housing are all loose within the molded plastic backing. The backing itself is cracked which has allowed the nuts to spin freely. Ordered a new back... I guess I'm a little discouraged at some of the quality within the dash components so far... Also found while accessing the dash that the nuts and bolts holding the windshield onto the fairing have worn grooves into both from the vibration... Has anyone replaced the steel bolts with plastic nuts or the like? Thanks again for all the comments and help! Jamie
  20. No, the light does not come on at all...
  21. My charging system idiot light does not go on when the key is turned to the 'ON' position... figured the bulb was bad. Cannot get the rubber grommet/bulb assembly out to save my life!? What is going on here? Anyone? Thanks. Jamie
  22. I remember my days as an air cooled VW head, folks who knew and loved these engines never worried a bit about oil filtration (these engines did not have one, just a screen) because the German engineers knew that the oil breather hooked up before the carb would clean the air so thoroughly, there were no thoughts of contamination and/or engine failure. I guess they were correct, as the upright air cooled Vee Dub engine was one of the most successful, trouble free, longest lasting engine designs on the planet. So there must be something said about keeping our air filters clean in the same breath as oil filtration... As Frank Zappa used to say, "...information is not knowledge, knowledge is not intelligence.." and so it goes, boys.
  23. Just returned from a ride and noticed that the throttle cable near the injection unit is frayed badly, apparently due to it rubbing on the end of the outer cable housing/nipple... How hard is replacement? Thanks!
  24. So, how tight do we need to get this filter? In all my normal experiences with oil filters, I just used to get them hand tight. All manuals and other nomenclature states not to use a tool in order to further tighten the filter... Why is this, and why do the filters tend to back out in a Guzzi?
