  1. From failing memory, the Centauro rear drive wasn't vented at all. You just got it good and hot and opened the filler cap to burp it.
  2. I spent quite a bit of time just trying to learn to say "My hovercraft is full of eels" in Chinese. Writing it? There might have been a misspelling or two. Doesn't mean I couldn't make something..
  3. That's it! Nicely done. Another AGM recovered. So, would you say it was the discharge followed by applying amperage in excess of 6 amps (10 amps in your case)? Must have been. It went down last fall and I just put it on a tender overnight. I thought, "WTF?" I've left Odyssey batteries for months on end out in SoCal without issue. Go out, punch the button and go. I can probably do the same with this one, now.
  4. Still 12.96.. King, I'm calling this case closed.
  5. You mean that occasionally the fog lifts enough that you can actually *see* the rain coming down?
  6. I don't use moly unless I'm running dino oil. I'm pretty confident the modern synthetics are fine without additives.
  7. I agree. When the rear drive was designed, chains were a total PITA, needing *very* regular cleaning and lubing. Not so much any more, but if you're going to have the Guzzi experience you'll just have to deal with the u joint, coupler, seals, etc. I don't mind..
  8. FWIW, this is used on aircraft to insulate fuel lines. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php?s=FIRESLEEVE&x=0&y=0
  9. A two stroke runs the best it's ever run.. right before it seizes.
  10. Ahhh. I haven't seen that one. There is a different part number for the valve cover gaskets, but they look similar in a picture.
  11. Oh, no.. I didn't do a plug chop. Just had a look at the plug hoping I didn't see any aluminum..
  12. I fully realize I'm anal about this, but every year I give a bike an "annual inspection" just like an airplane. Every 2 or 3 years, I take *every* electrical connection apart, spray it with Caig DeOxit, put it back together and wiggle it around. Guzzis almost never fail mechanically, but the electrical systems need some help. When I was going through the Monza's electrical system last Winter, I found 3 connectors that were ready to fail from corrosion. Back in another lifetime when I was an engineering modelmaker, I worked with the reliability lab making test fixtures for the salt spray booth occasionally. That's 40 hours of salty water sprayed at a harness. I've never seen a Guzzi harness that would pass that one.
  13. Where you want to look is toward the bottom of the insulator. Tan is good. White is lean. Black is oil and/or fuel fouled. Little balls of aluminum on it is Uh oh..
  14. ^^^^^ I've seen the tach act up with a bad battery, too. You can check the alternator output on the two yellow wires. It should be roughly 45-60 VAC. If so, and it isn't charging the battery, it'll most likely be the regulator. That is the most common failure.. caused by not adding a secondary ground from the regulator case to an engine case bolt.

    Diagnostic Cables

I've read that you may or may not get the correct chip from Amazon.. the luck of the draw. It took about a week to get my cables from England, FWIW.
  16. It reads 12.98 this morning. Blasting it with 10 amps for a couple of hours must have gotten it's attention..
  17. ^^^^^ Yeah. I've gone to to the Indy "Euro bike night" and have seen the Panigales with inch and a half chicken strips.. I had Rosie (Rosso Corsa) to one, and a guy that had a nice newer MV looked at me and said.. "There's the class of the whole bunch." He didn't realize I was Rosie's keeper at the time. You either get it or you don't..
  18. I think what you are saying is you've seen round head valve covers on square fin motors. It takes an adapter plate.. but that can be done.
  19. Gotcha, I read the thread.. it's sitting at 14.85 as we speak after I pulled the charger.
  20. Oh, I was just talking about tuning, John.. you can probably get Honda prophylactics.. Guzzi stuff not so much.
  21. Mine was at +20 when it was running lean. I put it back to +40, and it's fine again. It certainly sounds like the same issues I was having on this trip, but my engine/PC map may not equal your situation. At any rate, I'd look at reasons it could be lean. Air leak, etc.
