Scud, notice the difference on the flats of your pawl compared to the one I surface ground. 1-005 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr 900 miles with no sticking shifter so far.. I'm *not* saying that's the cure, but it's promising.

Agreed, but I would suspect the TPS.

A kid that I've mentored a little did that on some Ti cans that were really beat up, and he'd gotten cheap. (Guzzi content) They look fine.

Yesterday morning at the Ohio rally, we'd had a killer dew/fog during the night. All the luggage I had was strapped on the the seat and Guzzi rack. Looked liked the Beverly Hillbillies. Got ready to go, punched the button and racheta racheta racheta. Hmmm. One more time. racheta racheta racheta. You know the feeling when you're hundreds of miles from home and it won't start.. Took off my helmet, pulled the earplugs, and the fuel pump isn't running. Untied all the luggage, pulled the seat and went for the fuel pump fuse. Looked fine, so I stuck it back in and wiggled it around. Turned the key, and the fuel pump was working. Packed everything back on and blasted off. So. This morning, I pulled the relays and fuses and shot them with some Caig DeOxit. Magical stuff. I recommend it.

Kool. Never have seen a guy play cello standing up like that.

I haven't forgotten the lucky 19 that get em. 2016-09-05_09-30-39 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr I'll spray a coat of wash primer on the other side and get them out tomorrow with any luck at all. For those of you that would still like one (or several) I'll check with a laser or water jet shop to see if I can get them cut ready to form cost effectively when I get time.

Sorry, Bruce.. all gone.

Every ounce counts on a 500 lb. airplane.. Wow - my Sport weighs more than that! So does the Mighty Scura. They are "different" machines, designed for their own purpose..that's all. Both are a hoot to operate. I'm still occasionally amazed that we can build a machine that *flies,* though. Generations have looked at birds in the sky and thought, "if only I could do that.."

I know what you mean. Some metals are hard work. I just finished making attachment brackets for the new bike rack I should have fitted 6 months ago. I had a brainwave and pulled some titanium out of a scrap bin, thinking that it would match the titanium cans. What a dumb idea! I couldn't cut it, so made up a .dxf file and went to the closest laser cutter. They said "nope, 4mm thick is the limit for that stuff". Then the water cutter said "8mm? Sure, come back tomorrow with $90". That's when the fun started. I wrecked 4 drill bits and 2 taps, but at least it didn't catch fire. Then I painted the brackets black, so the idea of matching the cans was wasted. Next time I think that Ti6Al4V is a good idea for something, I'll have a beer until I calm down. I believe that the Russians make a lot of titanium stuff, which helps explain why they drink a lot of vodka. Mouser 2016-05-24_02-55-34 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr has a couple of titanium pieces. Saved a little less than a pound. What a nightmare to machine.

I've never heard tractor in a cocktail dress before. Quite appropriate. I'll shamelessly steal that one.

Thanks, Phil.. actually, it was more work than I expected. I've never done a run of 4130 before. Normally, when building an airplane, I'll make one of a part, and don't give a thought to how tough it is on the cutter. I used up several end mills on this "production"run. In hindsight, I should have gone to a laser or water jet shop and had them make the blanks. At first, I thought, "no big deal, I'll probably only make 10 or so." That's why I did them this way. It's so 20th century.. but it got the job done.

Here's the one I've been looking for.. finally.. the last one. Put it on the form die.. 2016-08-31_05-14-34 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Apply 20 tons.. 2016-08-31_05-15-37 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Ta daa 2016-08-31_05-15-06 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Still have to clean, bead blast, and chromate. That'll take a day at least. I've decided you guys are working me too hard so I'm taking a few days off and riding the Mighty Scura to the Ohio rally. I'll get these out next week.

I *think* it's just a re balance.

Alright everyone, listen up. If I've replied in an email or here and said you were in line for one, send me an email with your snail mail address. I'll give you mine and Paypal account if you want to do that. Paypal, personal check, barter for beer.. I'll send the extenders out as soon as I finish them up.
-
Sorry, but there was an earlier email at 5:59 last night.
-
You are in line for one from your post on page one of this thread. Oops, I have an email from you for 2, the wrong address *did* go through. Some things aren't meant to be understood.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Last time I tried to visit you -- on a Guzzi, I might add! -- at that airshow, they wouldn't let me in, so I think this is all an excuse for you and your girlfriend to have a weekend. I'm telling, too. Bill no no, Bill.. that was the National Antique airplane fly in, the week before the Midwest fly in. I could have gotten you in if I'd have known, of course.
-
If you are Kosta Suli.. yes
-
Well, when you promise to make something longer... and the effect is greater power and precision with up and down motion... and it enhances the riding experience... Not only longer for 4 hours but forever.. What was I thinking? Two left up for grabs..

Looks like first class postage will be around $3 to the continental US. International somewhere between $15-20, depending on where. I can take PayPal or check. Don't send any money until you have them in your hand and we know how much it cost to ship. Back to turning the crank..
-
Eeeks! More people want these than I expected. I scrounged around in my "good airplane junk" pile, and found enough 4130 to make 5 more. That'll be 19 total. 15 are already spoken for. I'll make them until stock runs out, but don't plan on making any more right now. It kinda reminds me of work.. I've had 60 years (!) of that, and I'm officially retired.
-
I'd really like to attend, but it's at the same time as the Midwest Antique Airplane fly in. It's a chance for me to hang out with the Kid and play airplane. Rats. So many toys and things to do, so little time.

Shirley a robot wouldn't pick up 59.Chuck at Gmail dot com? Send me your contact info and I'll get em out as soon as they come off the presses. I'll send Lucky Phil one, but it'll be red. Everyone else gets zinc chromate primer. I'll check with the post office tomorrow for US delivery charge. I have enough stock to make 14. My guess is that will be the first and probably only run of them.

Ok, went for a ride. Lucky Phil was right. I don't think I've ever had a better shifting bike after doing the mods. I have 300 miles of local riding on the flat ground shifter pawl, and no hint of the lever sticking down, either. What's not to like? Unfortunately, that $50 price for the extender is as cheap as I can make them. Most of my work is machining engineering plastic and aluminum. I'd sort of forgotten how long it takes to cut 4130. If you want one, send me an email with your contact info. But wait!! There's more! For only $100, I'll send you two and won't increase the shipping and fondling. Operators are standing by.
